(P.S. if you want, I found a song that really goes with this chapter. It's called "The Ellie Badge" and I highly suggest playing it as you read. Y'all can just search it on YouTube.)

Teague's eyes opened wide in shock and he stopped breathing. Time seemed to stop and he could only see his feelings mimicked on Jared's face. Mina looked like she was about to cry. Gaston pulled the knife out of Teague's chest just as quickly as he'd inserted it. He maniacally laughed with pure delight, the sound covering Teague's groan of pain. He dropped the sharp piece of metal to the floor he picked up Teague and threw him across the room. His had hit the stone wall and his head drifted to the side and he got a dazed look in his eyes.

"Teague!" Mina screamed out.

"Mina , duck!" Jared called out as he ran to his brother's side.

Mina ducked and Gaston's fist flew over her head. She dropped to the ground and picked up the knife, holding it to Gaston's neck. He laughed and panted.

"You don't have the guts, sweetheart."

Mina's vision was blurred with tears of anger but she saw the sick, twisted grin on the bastard's face. She sliced the blade across his neck and he fell to the floor with a sickly crack.

"Don't ever call me sweetheart."

Mina ran to Teague and she slid next to him, sitting on her feet.

"Teague? Teague? Please answer me." She held him in her arms but no reply came. "Oh no, this is all my fault..." Tears continually leaked from the corner of her eyes and she sobbed into his shirt.

"Mina, it's not your fault." Jared rubbed her shoulder, but Mina wasn't listening. She couldn't seem to stop crying.

Teague couldn't really see what was happening around him but he felt Mina crying. He wanted to move his arms around her but he couldn't find the strength. He couldn't help but think: is this what happens to people before they die? He couldn't ponder the thought much longer when he saw Mrs. Potts walk in from the image of a door. He could still see Mina on his chest, but he also saw her on to of the bed. He let his mind drift off into the memories as a last indulgence of happiness.

"Oh uh...Teague? No. No I haven't seen Teague." Mina stuttered.

His eyes, those brilliant blue eyes lost their light and stared off into the distance, his mind utterly useless.

"What's a beauty like that, doing with such a beast?"

After hearing the last line, Mina's grew increasingly irritable.

Mina hugged Teague close to her, kissed his forehead, and then sobbed into his hair. She was too late.

"You know, Mina. This castle is your home now."

Jared leaned against the wall and watched as Mina gave up trying to heal his wound. No, the once strong girl had finally had her heart broken. She has to watch him die, knowing there was nothing she could do. It's a strange feeling, the loss of a brother. Jared knew he was dying, but it didn't feel that way. He wasn't really sad, for himself or Teague. There was this strange hollow feeling like when a glass slips from your grasp. You know if you don't catch it,it will hit the floor, break, and you'll never be able to drink from it again. And yet, there's no way to grab it. All you can do is watch as it falls and when it does hit the ground, you can see the glass break into little pieces that sparkle like crystals, and when you look down at the mess that you could've and should've prevented, that's when the guilt and sadness comes. But when you lose someone close to you and feel you losing yourself, it's so much stronger. The feelings of I could've done something and it's my fault take up everything in your brain until you feel weightless.

"You will NOT be accompanying me." Teague turned to look at her.

"Yes, I will!" Mina pouted.

"Teague! Please you have to stay with me!" She cried. Pulling back from him, she looked down at him and held his face in he hands. "Don't go! You can't!"

"I..." Mina blushed, "I don't know how to dance."

Teague started laughing. "Here," He intertwined his right hand with Mina's left and placed a hand on her waist. She placed her right hand on his shoulder and they began dancing with the rest of the guests.

Teague's eyes partially focused back on to the beauty in front of him. And the look in her eyes have him the reassurance he'd always wanted, he'd always wanted to know he could be loved, and he'd die before getting to tell her. She gave him that little smile he'd grown so fond of. Those honey brown orbs were focused on him, and only him.

"You're not a beast."

"What makes you so sure of that, sweetheart?" He smirked.

Jared looked down at his hands which had begun to fade from reality. They flickered from solid to a ghostly image. He tore his gaze from it and looked to his brother. He'd finally learned to love, and for what?

"We're not saying you can change him, 'cause people don't really change. We're only saying that love's a force that's powerful and strange." She patted Mina on the back and noticed that something had changed in her eyes since the day they'd met. The hopelessness and fear had melted into something that wasn't there before.

He thought back to what Mrs. Potts had said. It was true, what she'd said. People don't really change. People don't get rid of the demons in their heads that make them so rude and bitter, people only teach them to quiet down. People keep their good and bad traits, they only change their opinion on which ones to express. Teague held his hand to Mina's cheek and wiped a tear from it. Her eyes brightened with hope and it burned to know that light would soon be gone. She held the hand to her cheek and wanly smiled.

He grabbed one of her arms and examined it for any signs the wolves had gotten to her. "You could've been hurt! You're already sick."

"I can't believe you came back, idiot." He chuckled but winced in pain.

"Of course I came back. I couldn't let you leave me. Who else is going to make fun of Sir Nomer?" She sobbed.

"Mina, I-"

"Shh. You need to save your breath. You'll be fine, just wait and see." She cooed. They both knew she didn't really believe it, but what else was she supposed to say? That he was dying? That she'd never see him again? She wasn't keeping her mouth shut to spare Teague the sadness, he knew what was happening. It was for her. SHe couldn't admit to herself that in a matter of minutes, he'd be gone and she couldn't help, at all.

"At least I got to see you...one last time." Teague's eyes slowly closed and the hand fell from Mina's face. She stopped breathing and looked down at him in disbelief. This couldn't be real. It HAD to be a dream. Wake up! Wake up! she thought to herself. But she still was in the middle of the room, holding on to Teague tighter than ever, dreading the moment she'd have to let go. The thing was people always say to let go, but she didn't want to. She was so terrified that she'd forget the sound of his voice or the shade of bluie in his eyes, but most of all she was afraid she'd forget about how her feelings had changed for him. Out of darkness and hate, there was always love, but it only blossomed after death.

"Teague, please come back! I'll do anything! Please!" Her eyes overflowed with tears as she looked back to Jared, who was hardly visible now, his stormy grey eyes shiny.

"No! Not you too! Please, someone help!" She screamed and sobbed, but no one came.

"Mina, you did it." Jared whispered, his voice rough and hoarse. There was an identifiable smile on his face, as though he wasn't dying right in front of her.

"What?!" She cried.

"I'm so proud of you. You don't need me anymore." He smiled and faded from reality.

"Jared?! JARED?!" She bawled and turned back to Teague, who lay lifeless on the floor. The only sound in the room was the echo of her cries, echoing off the castle walls. Her heartbeat beat loudly in her ears and her breaths were short and uneven. It hurt so much that there were no words to describe the pure loneliness and lack of hope that engulfed her heart at that moment. She lay on the floor until Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, and Cogsworth came and took her away. They held her and didn't let go until she was home, but she didn't feel right calling it that. A broken heart, a lost friend, and words that were never said.

That is how Mina Grimm broke the curse.
