Hayley stood on the balcony of her bedroom. After dinner she had prompted Elijah to go talk to Klaus during their ride home. He hadn't been too agitated by the idea in the car. However when they had arrived at the compound, he'd kissed her on the forehead and disappeared to the room she knew Klaus was occupying.
She'd realised months ago, that if they wanted this to work, the brothers needed to be at calm waters. After living a year with the original family, she had certainly come to know the importance of the bonds they shared. They shouted and bickered, but at the end of the day they still loved each other. Even after 1000 years of paranoia, hate and war.
She also knew Elijah was the only one who could keep her baby daddy, in some kind of quiescent control.
She quivered lightly when a cold breeze hit her. She looked out over the
Colourfully lit streets of the French Quarter, hearing the people laugh and cheer beneath her. It was a night as any other in New Orleans.
Elijah had found her presence on the balcony without her noticing. He softly walked up from behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, his face nuzzling into the crook of her neck. "Good evening," the words hit her ears in a whisper.
"Hi" she melted into his touch, her head leaning lightly against his own. A content sigh left her throat. "How's Klaus?"
"Niklaus is perfectly fine. Despite his tumultuous bearing, I believe my baby brother merely lacked attention."
He placed his lips against the skin under her earlobe. "And I believe Camille might even stay the night," his smile was evident against her skin.
As his lips blazed over her neck, approving hums escaped her mouth. She turned in the circle of his arms. Their foreheads met before her lips slowly pressed against his. Elijah responded in kind, sliding his hands round to her back and hauling her up against him.
Elijah drew back, allowing breath. Hayley's lips met his lips again after short seconds.
"Hayley," He murmured through kisses. "I have been thinking...and... I think you should visit your wolves."
Hayley pulled away immediately. Pushing herself from Elijah's arms. She folded her arms on her chest and turned away.
"Hayley..," Elijah reached for her arm, turning her towards him. His hand softly cupped her elbow. "I know you miss them."
Hayley rolled her shoulders in unease. "I don't want to see them." She said, a cold tone filling her voice.
"Hayley, you don't mean that." He pulled her closer.
Hayley swiftly pushed his arm away. "What Elijah? Do I need to remind you that you were the one who did everything to stop me to be with them in the first place."
"You know why I did that Hayley."
He looked down, his jaw clenching. "Things have changed now. Your wolves too need to be reunited if we are to bring peace to this city." He folded his hand around her own. "You're their leader, you're the only one that's strong enough to make your pack whole again."
"And what makes you think they'll ever trust me again." She argued pulling her hand away. "I killed eight of my own people, Elijah. How does that make me a good leader? Please tell me."
"You did what was needed to protect your own. Those wolves wronged you and you had every right to do what you did."
"Still, even if I'm ever capable of convincing them that. I'm a hybrid. I'm no longer one them. I'm a blood sucking monster."
"Is that how you see me." His tone caught her off guard.
"No of course not. But that's different, Elijah."
"No it's not, Hayley! If Jackson ever truthfully claimed to care about you, he will even now you're a hybrid."
"Don't you dare mention Jackson in this. He has risked everything to stay true to those wolves and they just stabbed him in the back." She paced from the balcony into the bedroom.
"Hayley..!" Elijah called following her inside. "I'm just saying it might be a good idea." He said calmly.
"And I'm saying it's not gonna happen." Hayley said staring a hole into the wall as she felt Elijah's eyes prick in her back.
"You haven't even considered it." Elijah rubbed his hand over his face, starting to lose the patience which usually seemed unending when he was with her.
"I'm not gonna go there. End of story." Hayley said determined.
"Why can't you for once not be so damn conceited." He clamoured from behind her causing her to abruptly turn around.
"You just scolded me, Original?" A smile rose on Hayley lips.
Elijah looked down the red carpet on the floor, "Forgive me Hayley, I have no idea what hit me." He was totally caught of guard when Hayley cupped his face with her hands and pressed her lips against his own in a soft, lingering kiss.
He close his eyes and wrapped his arms around the small of her back, pulling her closer to him. Her scent intoxicated him. She sighed against his mouth, deepening the kiss once more, eagerly massaging her lips against his before pulling away. Still close, lips millimetres apart, and her eyelashes nearly brushed against his skin as they fluttered open. "So I guess that was our first fight." She murmured, biting her underlip.
"I guess so." Elijah replied smiling, before closing the distance between them again.
