Rejection Chapter 14

AN: Sorry it took so long to update! I know it has been AGES since I updated, but I have been working on side projects, like an original story, and a crossover fic that will be posted once complete. I apologize for keeping all of you waiting, and for basically abandoning my story for ages. I am thinking of changing the title, since the story seems to have deviated from my original plan… any suggestions?

Oh yeah, you will probably notice a change in my writing style…

Without further ado, Chapter 14!

As Yukio was led to the room his brother was in, Mephisto was slumped in a hallway branching from Rin's room.

"That took a lot out of me." He muttered to himself, sliding down the wall he was leaning on. A doctor came down the hall with a cup of water.

"Mr. Pheles, here's some water. Thanks again for doing what you did. We wouldn't have been able to stabilize him without your help, he was losing too much blood too fast. It was fast thinking on your part, stopping his time so we could patch him up without him losing any more blood. Sorry we had to make you hold his time for so long, but there was a lot of damage to his lung, which would have been fatal without the time you gave us and his remarkable healing powers. Even for a demon, his are pretty fast! The blood you donated also helped him greatly. His twin's blood wasn't a good enough match, oddly. It may have been because of the fact that the elder brother has more demon blood in him than human, while the younger has more human blood than demon. Either way, you saved his life." the doctor said with a smile, handing the water to Mephisto.

"Well, I couldn't have him die on me just yet. He is an integral part of my plan to overthrow Satan, after all." He tried to brush it off.

"Are you sure it isn't because he's your younger brother and you are growing fond of him?" The doctor replied, smiling knowingly.

"Now what gives you the idea that we are brothers?" Mephisto asked with a playful, yet slightly dangerous grin.

"Well, most demons wouldn't give their blood to another without a really good reason, and no offense, but you don't exactly share well. There is also the physical similarities between you two. Your hair colors are close, although yours tends towards purple in certain lights while his tends towards blue, and despite the pointy facial hair, if you were to shave your goatee, I am willing to bet that you have the same chin." the doctor listed offhandedly.

"My, haven't you put a lot of thought into this?" Mephisto smirked, rising from his place on the floor.

The doctor placed a hand on his arm.

" I must ask how you are doing yourself. despite being healthy, and having a great healing factor, you DID give five units of blood, which is half of the blood volume in the human body. Do you need anything? Something to help replenish your blood? We could see-"

"I have to make an appearance in, as you rightly guessed, my younger brother's room. This conversation never happened." Mephisto brushed passed the doctor, heading down the hallway towards Rin's room.

The doctor shook his head, looking around. "What was I doing in this hall? I need to get back to my rounds!" he muttered, looking at his watch.

Mephisto strolled down the hallway, his strength returning with every step.

'My, what a nosy little human… as Master of Time, I just siphon time off of others to replenish my health… I doubt anyone in this hospital will miss the extra day off of their lives.'

Rin's Hospital Room

It was quite a shock for Yukio to see his brother so still. He knew what to expect, but actually seeing it was almost like a physical blow. Shinichi was behind Yukio, and gave him a nudge.
"Are you going to go in, or stand there all evening?" Shinichi asked, nodding towards the room.

Yukio started, forgetting that he was there.

"Sorry." He muttered, moving towards Rin. The hiss of the respirator reminded Yukio of the sound of bellows, like the ones used in the forge he visited one time with Father Fujimoto years before, coupled with the beep of the heart monitor filled the room. Yukio scanned his brother's form.

He stepped over to the foot of the bed, and reached for his brother's charts.

"Sorry, but you are not allowed to view those." A voice came from behind him, and the chart disappeared from his hands. "And why not, Sir Pheles?" Yukio hissed, trying to control his rage at the director.

"Since I am your legal guardian, I can decide wether or not you can view his chart, and I have decided not to allow you to view it at this moment." Mephisto replied, making the chart disappear in a cloud of smoke.

Meanwhile, down at the nurse's station, a poor night nurse got the surprise of her life when a clipboard and chart poofed out of nowhere and landed on her head.

A/N: That's it for Chapter 14. Sorry it is so short and so late! I have been busy, and had a lot of things on my plate. Thank you for reading, despite the infrequent updates. Also, I need to change the title, any suggestions?
