Hunting Darkness (part 14)

Still holding her, in a small moment of weakness Klaus whispered "Are you alright love?"

Caroline's walls were down; the sole reason for it being that she was caught by surprise, his stare was definitely making her squirm, his hands were burning her skin and his soft, concerned voice was making her slightly dizzy. Taking the chance to appreciate his bare chest, she glanced at it shyly. (Shyly? Was she a teenager? Damn it, what was happening to her?) His muscles danced under her hands, and all that she wanted to do was run them all over his lean body. Her conversation with Enzo was running around her mind, "Seriously, if you're that worried that he might kill you, just strap him to the bed and have your way with him.", and she could definitely do that. What was stopping her? Oh right, he saw her as a monster, what a bummer. Finally stopping her eyes from roaming over his body she looked at his face. What she saw annoyed her, immensely. So much that she rolled her eyes and pushed him away.

Klaus noticed the way, her eyes were ogling his naked body, how her hands were basically groping him, the way her eyes filled with lust and want, she wanted him.

'Isn't that something?' He could work with this, he had thought of befriending her so it'd be easier to kill her but this, this was so much better. After all, she was beautiful; he could almost forget she was a dark evil creature, almost being the keyword. How hard could it be seducing her?

When she finally looked at his face, he was smirking, which she didn't appreciate seeing how she pushed him away.

"Why are you naked and wet, in my hallway?"

"First of all, I am not naked, I am wearing a towel. Secondly I just took a shower, that's why I'm wet and in your hallway."

Caroline's eyebrow rose in annoyance, and she replied as she observed his state once more "A small towel, that doesn't cover much of anything."

"Oh sweetheart, trust me, it's covering a whole damn lot." Klaus retorted amused, grinning he asked "Would you like to see?"

"Please, keep it in your pants you pervert."

"Now I'm the pervert? You're the one staring at me like I'm a piece of meat."

Caroline let out a terrifying laugh, licking her lips she stated "That is exactly what you are."

"Yeah yeah, bite me, Caroline." as he said this, a toothy grin appeared on her face and he realized what he had just remarked "You know what I meant. Keep your fangs to your bloody self."

Putting her hands up, as if she was surrendering she smiled "If you say so."

"I say so." he muttered angrily before walking past her and going into his bedroom.

'That was fun.' she thought to herself while walking to the bathroom in her bedroom.

Klaus on the other hand, was thinking of how to play her from now on. He couldn't get too close too soon, or he would fail and this time he'd be dead meat. For now, he knew she wouldn't hurt him which made him confident, although too much confidence is the death of many good men.

Caroline awoke with a terrible hunger, a horrifying thirst, so consuming it overcame all of her senses. Gasping for air she held onto the first thing her hands came into contact with, another body, Katherine. A little dazed, trying to refocus her wavering sight and calm her breathing, she silently begged for her help, because no matter what, the words would not leave her mouth. Maybe it was the shock, maybe it was the undeniable hunger and thirst, or perhaps her vocal cords were still healing from the devastating state the werewolf had left her, she didn't know, she didn't care. Luckily for her, Katherine understood her silent plea and vamped off, only to shortly return with a knocked out man. Caroline didn't understand the situation; she didn't comprehend what she had to do, so once again Katherine helped, by biting the man's wrist and bringing it into Caroline's salivating mouth. Recognition finally flickered in her eyes, she was transitioning, and it was her choice now. Live or die? In the end the instinct to live won and she started sucking the sweet, coppery blood. It was invigorating, rejuvenating, incredibly euphoric and simply, the best she had ever felt in her life.

Still, before the man could die, she stopped. Just because she was no longer human, did not mean she had to be a monster either. 'Take what you need, take more and you'll be a killer.' that was the motto she began exercising right then and there, sadly things happen.

Completely healed, Caroline and Katherine went back to the village, after all the forest was no longer safe. They didn't talk that night, the whole way to their homes was burdened with an eerie silence that neither broke. Katherine didn't apologize for her misdeeds, Caroline didn't thank Katherine for saving her life, nothing but darkness surrounded them. Eventually they parted ways, each one roaming in the direction their houses stood.

unexpectedly, her mother was waiting for her, worry seeping through her pores. It was only in these times that Caroline knew, without a doubt, that her mother truly loved her. They did not have a close relationship, but Caroline vowed to try and change it from this day forward.

"Where have you been Caroline? I have been worried sick." Liz told her, with a high pitched tone.

"I apologize, mother. I was with a friend and time got away from us, I promise it will not happen again." Caroline answered, truly regretful for past events.

Surprised by her daughter's truthful tone, Liz showed one of her small, proud smiles and waved the whole thing off with a flick of her wrist. They both sat down to eat, dinner was already starting to grow cold but Caroline was hungry and dug in. Sadly it did not seem to satisfy her hunger, not even close. Her throat was starting to close and an awful headache was pounding on her head, like a thousand needles being stabbed in her brain. The sound of a beating heart permeated her eardrums, badump, badump, it was pushing the blood to the rest of her, very much alive, body. Caroline's gums hurt, like they were being ripped apart. Looking at her mother, she saw the look of horror in her face. Liz physically rejected her whole being, pushing herself away from the table she stumbled backwards and fell to the ground. By now her fangs had pierced her aching gums and her eyes were red with dark veins covering her once beautiful features.

With a trembling voice and tears falling down her face, Caroline reached for her mother, "Mommy, mommy, help me. Everything hurts, please help me."

Liz shunned her away, slapping her hand and moving backwards until she hit a wall, with a ferocious voice she roared "You are not my daughter anymore, you're a monster. My baby is dead!"

Her mother's words were like a punch to her gut, so harsh and unkind she felt like throwing up. Clutching her stomach tight and covering her inhumanely mouth, her sobs only grew louder as she stepped back from the only woman that was supposed to love her unconditionally. Blood permeated the air, taking over all her senses. Liz had hurt herself when she fell, isn't that ironic? By shunning her daughter away she awoke the beast inside. Just like turning a switch, Caroline's desire to protect her mom was gone and only the hunger remained. Unable to control herself any longer Caroline lunged at her mother, biting her uncovered neck forcefully. It would definitely leave a bruise when she stopped, if she could get herself to stop and step away from her mother. But the fresh, delicious taste of the sinful drink wouldn't let her stop, her urges were too strong and her will too weak. Liz tried to fight her off, but her strength was nothing compared to Caroline's.

Her tears kept running, mainly because everything her mother told her was coming true, she was a monster, the simple reason being that her mother would die by her hands.

Liz had stopped fighting back, having passed out from blood loss, but still Caroline did not stop. She wanted more, needed it like humans need breathing. But just as suddenly as Caroline attacked her mother, she was being grabbed by the waist and pulled off of her mother. Caroline thrashed in the strong arms that held her down. Who dared interrupt her meal? The man shook her so harshly her senses came to life once again. Noticing her mother's limp body she screamed. What had she done? As she convulsed in the man's arms, the situation being too much to bear, her unnatural hearing kicked in. Badump, Badump. Badump, Badump. Realizing what she was hearing, relief filled her instantly, it wasn't too late, she was still alive. Finally liberating herself from her captor she ran to her mother's fallen body, kneeling beside her she bit her wrist and brought it to her mouth.

Everything was ruined, her life destroyed, but at least her mother was alive, at least she hadn't killed the woman she loved most in the world. At last she remembered someone else was in the room, fearfully she looked up, to see who her mystery savior was. Ha, Stefan, of course…wasn't it always him?

Running into the safety of his arms, Caroline once again let her emotions go out of control. Her feelings tumbled down, "My mother hates me. And what about my father? What if he finds out? I-I'm a monster."

Dipping a rag in water, he sat her down and tried to calm her, while cleaning her bloody face, "Shh shh, everything is alright. You're alright. I promise you, I will not let anything happen to you."

Whispering she asked "Promise?"

"Yes." he answered, kissing her forehead.
