Okay, let's roll.
SIMAIA (Simon x Maia)
Set in: City of Fallen Angels, during a date between the two
*No spoilers*
Maia glanced over at Simon, laughing at the indignant look on his face. "Not my fault you're horrible at this game," she teased.
Simon grumbled something unintelligible as he expertly manipulated his Xbox controller. However, it wasn't expert enough, and Maia almost lazily moved her character to block his onscreen.
"You suck!" Simon whined, almost dropping the controller. Cursing, he bent to pick it up.
"Don't swear," Maia said with great dignity, taking advantage of Simon's temporary absence from gameplay to pummel his character, although admittedly since they were on the same team it did nothing. The feeling was satisfying, though.
"Maia!" Simon exclaimed as he straightened up, using his controller to frantically try and regain his former position and dignity as Maia moved on without him. "This is my house, so it's my game, not yours! Go beat people on your own!"
"I don't have one," Maia said with an eye roll, arriving at the checkpoint that marked the end of the level and turning to wait for Simon, who was still straggling along farther down the onscreen street. "Are you coming or not?"
Simon smiled in response, and Maia was momentarily taken aback by how the casual smile lit up his face in a surprisingly adorable way. She had never really felt that way about a boy before; with Jordan, he'd only had to tell her she was beautiful for her to be hooked on him, so she hadn't spent much time really seeing him the way she now saw Simon Lewis.
The boy in question turned his attention back to the TV, and Maia saw his eyebrows furrow in concentration as he stared at the screen. She was secretly glad to have already finished the level if it meant getting to watch Simon play, but it was hard to resist the urge to run a hand through his tousled hair or adjust his crooked glasses.
As Maia leaned back into the couch, she realized that she thought him handsome in a way she had never seen anyone as being before. She had never even considered the possibility of liking the vampire whose best friends were Shadowhunters, the bane of Downworlders.
She had considered even less the possibility of falling in love with him.
