Chapter Thirteen
Danny couldn't believe his eyes as he stared at the limp form of his clone. For a moment he didn't move until Dani gave another small whimper. His thoughts interrupted by the sound Danny rushed up to the machine looking for a way to set her free. His mind didn't want to believe it but he's recognize his parents handy-work anywhere. Grinding his teeth Danny moved his hands over the mechanism until he found what he was looking for.
"Don't worry I'll have you out of there in a moment. Mom always put a fail switch in all her inventions in case Dad got caught in one of them." Danny muttered more to himself then the nearly unconscious girl he was trying to free.
She didn't respond but that didn't matter to him. Once his fingers found the switch he didn't hesitate to flick it. A shock ran through the building as every electrical device shut down for a few brief moments before turning back on. Danny only vaguely paid attention to what was going on around him as the locks securing Dani in place snapped open letting her limp form drop into his waiting arms. Sinking to the ground Danny cradled his clone gently hurrying to soothe her as she let out more whimpers.
"I got you Dani you're safe now." He said cringing at how small she was compared to him.
"D-D-D-Danny." She managed to get out the effort leaving her panting.
"Don't talk trust me you're core is almost completely drained. Any longer in that thing and you might have died." Danny said shifting her so she was leaning against his chest.
As he sat there holding her Danny couldn't help but wonder how she got into this whole mess. The machine she'd been trapped in was something his parents made. There was no doubt about that, and from what he could tell the machine was powering the whole building around them. That little fact however brought up another question that he didn't want to think about.
Did Jazz know about this?
It seemed his questions were about to be answered as he heard the sound of dozens of footsteps heading in their direction. Feeling tense and slightly protective of the smaller body in his arms Danny shifted her so she was slightly hidden by his shadow. Jazz was the first person to reach them her suspicious look turning into a shocked one as she took in the fact he was sitting on the floor in front of their generator. Looking up at the empty spot her face took on a serious tone.
"Danny what happened here? We lost power long enough that our position might have been compromised." As she spoke she felt the others come up behind her.
Danny didn't answer at first instead he glanced down at the pale face in his arms and ground his teeth again. Standing up he turned so they could all see the body in his arms as well as the angry look on his face.
"It's simple Jazz I freed your power source. Care to explain what she was even doing locked in your generator in the first place?" Danny nearly snapped eyes glowing faintly in the dim lighting.
Jazz took a step back in the face of his anger before composing herself and frowning.
"What do you want me to say Danny? That I didn't know she was down here? I'm not going to lie to you little brother. Mom and Dad caught her a little after you disappeared. When we decided to make this our base camp we found her." Jazz admitted.
"And you didn't free her?!" Danny growled holding Danielle tighter against him.
"What did you want us to do Danny?! She's one of them!" Jazz argued back guilt making itself known in her heart.
"She's me Jazz. And if you haven't forgotten I'm half ghost too." Danny growled back though his voice was calm.
"But you're also half human Danny, " Jazz reminded him, "See it from our point Danny. If we'd freed her in the beginning then none of us would be here."
Danny could only shake his head at what his sister was saying. Looking to the others behind her he saw the same distrust as before only this time it was more aimed at the person in his arms. Shaking his head at the folly of it all Danny turned away switching forms in the blink of an eye. When he spoke he kept his back to his sister so he wouldn't lose his nerve.
"You're right Jazz I may be half ghost but I'm also half human. And my human side for once is saying the same thing as my ghost half. This place isn't safe for me, or for Danielle and I'm not going to leave her in a place where she's just going to be hurt and tortured." His voice was steady even though his heart wasn't.
"Wait a minute Danny we had no choice!" Jazz shouted desperation lining his voice.
Hearing that made Danny stop. Turning he leveled his eyes on his sister cold fury burning in them.
"You always have a choice." With that said Danny turned back before jumping into the air.
Before anyone could stop him Danny was phasing through the ceiling and rock. Once he was out into the open air again he sent a last glance at the former school before glancing back down at the body in his arms. He had to get Dani somewhere safe. The only places that came to mind were either gone or too predictable. Finally he decided that heading back to the house might be his best option. Nodding he started flying back towards his former house unaware of the red eyes that followed his movement.
"I have him sight sir." Skulker informed Vlad as he watched the halfa take off.
"Good keep him in your sights and when you have the opportunity capture him." Vlad ordered.
"And the other halfa he's carrying?" Skulker wondered.
"Dispose of her I have no use for a failure." Came the short order before the line went dead.
Skulker watched the halfa tracking his every movement. It had been years since he'd seen his former enemy. The ghost child was no longer a child but a man. Switching his sight back to normal Skulker stood brushing dust off his armour. He knew what he had to do and with the little amount of time he had to do it Skulker knew there was no room for error.
Author: So I'll be writing these the night before and updating them whenever I can. SO look forward to that.
