Chapter 14
I pulled Stiles aside.
"I thought Derek was older?" I asked.
"Me too, but ah," he turned and looked at Derek and then back at me, "I think it's safe to say that he isn't anymore." We all piled into the jeep. Not only were we all squashed in the back, but then they put him across all our laps because he was unconscious.
"I knew we should have taken two cars." Lydia said as she looked down at Derek Jr.
"It's not my fault that you didn't want to drive, Lydia." Stiles told her.
"Well it was a brand new car." she replied.
"Then it would have been perfect for this brand new Derek. We really should have taken your car Lydia." I told her. She just rolled her eyes at me. The drive home seemed to take days and it was filled with endless discomfort and poor Derek Jr. when I adjusted myself his head would slide forward and hit the back of Stiles' seat.
We arrived back in Beacon Hills and it was still dark and now raining. We were at the veterinarian. Scott grabbed Baby Derek and raced him inside. We all ran in except for Malia and Kira. We placed him on a metal table.
"Oh, wow." Deaton started.
"Wow?" Stiles asked, "Wow as in I've seen this before and know exactly what to do kind of wow because that's the kind of wow we're hoping for?"
"I think you might be over-estimating my abilities." Deaton told him. Lydia felt Little Derek's hand and then looked at us.
"He's cold. Really cold." Lydia told Deaton. She raised Baby Derek's hand and Deaton felt it.
"How long is this gonna last? Forever?" I asked.
"I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate. This is well beyond my experience." Deaton didn't answer my question.
"So what are we gonna do with him?" Stiles asked.
"Til he wakes up? Probably not much. It might be best to leave him with me. He'll be safe here." Deaton explained.
"You mean from Kate." Stiles told him.
"There's that name again. How bad was she?" I asked.
"Let's just say that if she's alive and she is who you say she is then she won't be able to walk past that gate." He told me, again not really answering my question.
"Why would she want to do this to him?" Lydia asked.
"Knowing Kate it probably won't be good for anyone, but her." Deaton answered. Finally a straightforward answer.
"And bad for everyone else." Stiles mentioned. We all took a moment to assess the situation.
"You should all go home. He doesn't look to be in any danger, so maybe the rest of you should get some sleep. It is a school night," Deaton told us. Scott closed and then opened his eyes big as if to hope that they would stay that way and wake him up, "You all need to start taking care of your own lives again."
"Someone should stay with you." Scott told him.
"I'll stay," Lydia started. I turned to her and opened my mouth, but before I could say anything she cut me off, "My grades are fine, despite missing a few classes."
"I'm so not okay with this." I protested.
"Guys, go." Lydia told us.
"Nope." I replied.
"Text us if anything happens." Scott told her.
"Nope, still not okay with it," I interrupted. Scott and Stiles grabbed my arms and started pulling me. Stiles wasn't a challenge, but Scott was strong, "Hey, no! I can stay, you're not my dad."
"Come on Sunny." Stiles told me.
"Stiles I will hurt you." I told him, but he just laughed as they, Scott, dragged me back to the jeep. They took Malia and I home where we met up with my dad who, believe-it-or-not, wasn't locked up in his room. The night went pretty well except for the fact that I wasn't with Lydia. We made dinner together and it was actually… it was actually a really nice time and… I haven't had a really nice time like this in a long time. I kissed and hugged my dad goodnight and then hugged Malia.
"Wyatt, Lydia is gonna be fine." she told me.
"I know." I replied.
"No you don't because I can tell that she's all you've been thinking about because if I looked at you it was painfully obvious." she explained.
"Well sorry that I care for someone so much. I know you care about Stiles like this, but… but you do it differently." I told her.
"I know," she mimicked me, "night."
"Goodnight." I released her and went to my room where I fell asleep rather quickly. It had been a long day with the whole trip to Mexico and everything that went down.
I got up in the middle of the night to a creaking of the floor. I got up and went to the kitchen where I found Malia in her pajamas.
"What are you doing?" I asked drowsily.
"Just go back to sleep." she told me.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"Nowhere, I'll be back before you guys wake up." she told me getting annoyed.
"Are you going to Stiles' house?" I asked.
"No." she answered incorrectly.
"You're a terrible liar." I told her with a smile.
"Oh just go to bed." she told me in a whisper-yell.
"Wait," I walked over to her and my smile faded, "just… are you using protection?"
"Oh my god." she blurted.
"Just tell me." I told her.
"We aren't, that's not even, just no. We aren't doing that." she told me.
"Then why are you so embarrassed? It may be dark, but your cheeks are bright red." I told her.
"You are so humiliating." she growled.
"I am, but the question is are you safe?" I asked.
"WE AREN'T, AGH! I'm going." she told me as she turned and headed for the door.
"Alright. Be safe." I told her.
"Shut up." she told me as the door closed. I went back to bed with a smile on my face.
The next morning we all got ready, but Malia yelled at me for taking so long in the shower, but we quickly moved past that. We got in the car and headed to school. I took a little detour and stopped at the animal clinic to check on Lydia.
"You are unbelievable." Malia told me.
"I'm also very caring and protective and that is why we're here." I told her. I saw her roll her eyes as I closed the door. I walked in to find Deaton wrapping his arm, Lydia helping him looking nervous, and a missing Baby Derek. Lydia looked at me surprised.
"Wyatt?"
"What happened?" I asked.
"Derek s-" Deaton stopped Lydia.
"I slipped with a scalpel and did some damage on my arm." he told me.
"You're such a bad liar. Where's Little Derek?" I asked.
"Wyatt, please just… I'll talk to you later." Lydia told me.
"No, I told you I was gonna protect you and within 24 hours that I said that something bad happened to you." I ranted on, but she stopped me.
"Please, go to school and tell Scott and Stiles that Derek ran away." she told me.
"We can call them an-"
"Please," she kissed me quick on the lips, "for me." I waited a moment.
"Fine." she smiled and gave me a hug.
"Now go. I don't want you to be late." she told me as she pushed me out the door.
"Wait, don't I get a kiss goodbye?" I asked as she started to close the door.
"Maybe later." she told me.
"Oh you." and the door closed. I got back in the car.
"What was that all about?" Malia asked.
"Derek ran away." I told her as we pulled out.
"You mean that kid from last night?" she asked.
"Yeah."
"They couldn't catch him? Figures." Malia said under her breath. The rest of the ride was silent. We got to school right as the bell rang. We both went to our class, History. Mr. Yukimura was going on about something. I wrote on my paper Lydia told me to tell you that Little Derek ran away. I folded it and when Mr. Yukimura wasn't looking I threw it. Luckily Scott was only two seats ahead of me. He looked at Stiles and they both looked at me. I nodded. The faced forward as Mr. Yukimura turned to the class and continued.
"...and then became probably one of the greatest presidents that this country has ever seen. Who was he?" he asked. I raised my hand along with Stiles, Kira, and some other kid, "Malia," I looked over and found my crazy sister highlighting like crazy. SHe froze in her tracks when he said her name. She had a highlighter in her hand and mouth and other hand. She looked around for a second with the highlighter still in her mouth. I buried my head in my desk. A phone went off, "Scott, phones off," I looked up. Scott just nodded, "Malia, one of our greatest presidents? Gettysburg address?" he asked. She stuck another highlighter in her mouth and flipped through her textbook. Kira on the other hand looked like she was trying to land a plane with how much she was moving her hand. ANother phone went off, "Phones off, everyone. Malia?... Does anyone else know?" everyone raised their hand. Suddenly, I felt bad for my sister. I shouldn't be embarrassed. I felt horrible. Another phone went off, "I said phones off!"
"Dad," Kira started, "that was yours." I smiled.
"Oh," he looked through his bag and pulled out his phone, "Scott call Lydia." It wasn't long before Scott left and Stiles followed him. Before Mr. Yukimura could question Stiles he was gone. I sighed knowing I missed my opportunity to go with them.
I dropped Malia off at home and was picked up by Lydia and Kira.
"Scott's going to find Peter and we're suppose to meet Stiles at Scott's house." Kira told us.
"That sounds like a horrible plan," Lydia said nonchalantly. Kira looked scared, "Oh we've had worse, like yesterday in Mexico." We pulled up to a gas station.
"About that, remember when were in the club and you and Scott were tied to electrical cables?" Kira asked.
"Vividly." Lydia answered.
"I know. I guess what I'm trying to ask is if my hand was on the dial connected to you and I had to turn it up to ten…" Kira stopped.
"Would I be angry?" Lydia asked.
"Yeah." Kira answered.
"No, cause I knew you had no choice. Exactly like Scott knows, and if you're worried about him just remember you're a katana wielding badass kitsune, and he couldn't be more into you." I smiled at how good my girlfriend was at being a friend.
"Yeah, you've got it goin' on Kira." I told her. I saw her smile.
"I'm stuck with this one." Lydia used her thumb and pointed at me.
"Hey!"
"Love you," she said as she got out of the car, "I'm gonna use the bathroom. Grab one of the cards from the visor. Beacon Hills credit card."
"Does this many cards mean you have good credit or bad?" Kira asked.
"The way she shops credit companies should love her," I laughed and looked over. Lydia was standing there on the side of the building staring and terrified, "Lydia?" I quickly got out of the car and ran over to her, "Lydia, what's wro- oh my god." The bathroom was left open. On the floor lay a dead body… well what was left of it. Blood and organs were all across the floor and walls. Kira came over and her mouth dropped.
"Oh my gosh." Kira uttered. Lydia took out her phone and walked towards the body. I jumped in front of her.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"I'm going to look at the body." she told me.
"You're what? You're insane." I told her.
"That could be very true, but that's not gonna stop me." she walked into the bathroom and Kira followed her.I stood outside and looked in.
"Are you gonna look?" Kira asked.
"These are new shoes. I can see perfectly fine from right here." I told her.
"I'm called Stilinski, they're on their way." Lydia told Scott who she was on the phone with.
"How bad is it? Can you send pictures?" I heard Scott ask. Lydia switched over to camera on her phone and moved it so you could see the body and blood and nastiness. She took many pictures.
"Alright, but remember I have a 4.0 in Biology, but there are parts of the human anatomy that I've never seen here on these walls." she and Kira grimaced as they exited the bathroom. We heard mumbling and then Scott told us.
"The school, they're going to the school." Scott told us. We got back in the car and floored it to the school.
I got out of the car and heard a loud roar.
"Scott." the next moment I was sprinting to Scott. I ran upstairs and found Malia and Scott crawling away from these two huge men covered in animal skin and bones. I growled as my teeth became fangs, fingernails became claws, and my eyes became blue. They turned and faced me.
"Wyatt wait!" Scott yelled. I ran at them. I jumped up and kicked one in the chest. I used that momentum and landed on the other, but he didn't budge. I began whacking him in the head hit-after-hit, but it didn't seem to be doing anything. I felt it's finger bones grab my head. It had a hand on both sides of my head. It started to squash my head. I started yelling until I thought my skull was going to be crushed, it dropped me. I collapsed onto the floor. Malia limped over to me. Her leg had been cut. Kira came out of nowhere and started whooping butt with her katana. I was dizzy, but Scott helped me away from the beasts.
"Kira!" Scott yelled. Kira got her katana knocked out of her hands and then was backhanded so hard that she fell back near us. The two freaks injured two of us, hurt the other two, and there was only two of them. They had us surrounded. Our odds were not looking good. The two giants turned suddenly and faced Baby Derek. Instead of getting killed Little Derek was whopping butt except he did get hit to the face a few times. One time he got hit and I swore he was normal Derek, but no. The fight intensified and right when I thought Derek might actually win a loud sort of bell went off and the animals ran off. Little Derek stood up, but he wasn't so little. Scott got up and was looking at him.
"Derek?" Scott asked. Little Derek turned around and walked into the light. He was back to stubbly ole Derek. His eyes glowed yellow. Scott smiled a little. I wasn't really sure what to do. All I know is that yeah Derek is back to being Derek, but there were four of us and we couldn't take down a single one of those beasts. The thing that really scared me is when are they coming back?
