Truth Chapter 14, a merlin fanfic

This chapter is in Merlin's POV.

Just a warning now but chapters 14 to 19 all start the same up until 'we were all silent'. They change after that But also the ends are simliar, depends on the person.

Chapter 14

"So now I have told you my tale, I want you to think. Yes there are things that have been revealed that may change your way of thinking but I want you to think of one thing, Albion. Don't count me or anybody else. I want you to think about whether or not you can make Albion the way everything is at the moment? Can you make the golden age that so many have been waiting for? That so many have died for? The druids have so much hope for you five and I don't want you to disappoint them or the triple goddess. I know it is hard but I have completed mine. Mine isn't as big as yours but there were some times when I thought that I was going to survive to see the day. If you include any of the thing you found out tonight, go on and do it. It may change your opinion on them. Do they make a difference on your life? Does everything in your life now make sense? Who you do the same if you were in that person position?"

Elsa stood up.

"I must take my leave. There is a giant lizard that wants to talk to me and he doesn't sound happy."

She motioned for Gaius to leave.

He patted his hand on my shoulder before he moved away, giving me the told-you-so look. I didn't see what he had told me thought. Elsa was still the woman that I thought she was.

The doors closed after them.

We were all silent, engulfed by our thoughts.

I sighed, quite loudly as well.

I had been overwhelmed with information.

She was my kind. She was one of us.

I always thought that I was alone in the world until I came to Camelot but I always had someone. My mother must have not wanted me to know.

Did she think that I would leave her to go and train with her? Or did my mother not want me to find out what they did to my kind?

I feel so sorry for her. The pain she went through just because she didn't want to hide herself.

I started to feel guilty.

Nobody had said it to me but I was a traitor to my kind. I stayed with Arthur because I believe in a destiny that I am not 100% sure I can complete.

I remembered when I met her when she was blind. Other than when she was first attacked by Uther, she came to Ealdor one more time. I don't know whether she returned after that or not.

Elsa had come to see my mother. She said that she was a friend.

I was 13 at the time. My mother had got me out helping the hunt. I was a beater and I had been watching her for a while. I may have used my magic so that she didn't stumble on the group.

"Hello miss, are you lost?"

I had watched this woman for a while stumbling in and out of the trees.

I slightly recognised her but I remember people usually because of their eyes. She had hers covered.

"Yes, I am wondering where Ealdor is?"

I looked at the woman curiously. I recognised the voice as well.

"Why do you want to know where Ealdor is?"

"I want to meet an old friend. Her name is Hunith."

I took a step back which she seemed to notice.

"Merlin is that you?"

"Yes miss."

Her hand reached out and tapped the top of my head.

"My you have grown. It's me Elsa."

I looked at her. "Elsa. I will bring you to my mother." I grabbed the hand that was top of my head and started to lead her out of the forest.

"Maybe it's better if you bring her here." Elsa stopped walking.

"I remember everyone. I couldn't recognise you. I doubt any of the villagers will."

She smiled at me then took my hand properly.

"Mother not home at the moment. You sit here and I will find her." I said leaving Elsa in the house.

I had a small suspicion where my mother was but I gave me more time to think about Elsa.

What had happened to her? It has been 6 years since I saw her and that was when she was last here. Wonder whether the Uther guy did this to her?

"Merlin what are you doing here?"

I was pulled from my thoughts by my mother placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Sorry mother but an old friend has come to see you."

I hoped she knew who I was on about.

"Merlin do you know that this person is an old friend?"

"Yes mother, she came a few years ago. I wouldn't let anybody into our house."

My mother bit her lip.

"I am sorry Elizabeth but I must go."

"Don't worry Hunith. You go and see your old friend." Elizabeth said to Hunith. I was sure that Elizabeth wouldn't tell anybody, her husband had once help Elsa.

My mother took my hand and led me back to the house.

"It was dangerous to bring her here." She said in a hushed tone.

"Mother, I didn't recognise her. Something has happened to her. I think she just needs someone to talk to. I think that is great that she has come to talk to you." I said matching her tone.

My mother sighed. "I know you mean well Merlin but ..." My mother stopped talking once she had seen Elsa.

"Hunith." Elsa said fumbling around in her own darkness.

"I am here Elsa." My mother said taking one of her hands.

I would have loved to know what they talked about but I thought better to eavesdrop this time. Some things need to remain secret. I returned back to the forest before the group had notice that I had gone for too long.

I did hear a little of the conversation.

"Is he like his father?" Elsa said. "He has the same mannerisms."

I heard my mother chuckle. "He is like his father. That is the way I had hoped to bring him up."

I moved on, hoping I could ask her questions later.

############################################Merlin's POV###############################################

She was gone by the time I got back and my mother was in a strange mood for the rest of the evening.

I let my eyes trace over all the people in the room.

I turned to the first person in the room, Morgana.

I had so many regrets and it was mainly because I could have helped her. I should have been the one to tell her that she wasn't the monster she thought she was.

But I wouldn't be able to kill her. Never.

Maybe a part of me still loved her, still thought that I could save the little bit of light still in her.

I remember bring her sleeping draft on her birthday on my first year there.

She had been sad for the whole day. Arthur tried to cheer her up but now I know why nobody could. Hearing the screams of the person you thought as a mother figure because you had asked her to stay. She must blame herself, like I do.

"Morgana you know it's too dangerous for her." Gwen said.

I lent my ear to Morgana's door.

"I know but I thought she would at least try. I mean it is my 18th birthday."

I heard Gwen sit on the bed.

"Morgana, I am sure she would gladly give her life for you. I am sure she will make herself known to us again."

"It has been 5 years since I last saw her."

"I know it's hard."

"I saw her all the time up until I was 8. Then Uther tried to take her away from me for the first time. After that I knew she came to see me. She would always visit me in my sleep. Maybe she thought if I saw her, I would think that she would stay, and yes I probably would. I heard her. I went to go and see her before Uther was going to ... I heard her screams ... How ... Arthur managed ... I will .. Nev ... Er know."

I decided that I would wonder for a bit and come back.

I knew it was going to be a long night for her.

############################################# Merlin's POV##############################################

I made my eyes move from Morgana. I would have started to study her beauty if I did. I landed on my half-brother.

Yes it hurt to think that my father had laid with another woman but Mordred wasn't a bad guy. Yes his destiny said that he was going to be bad but he could change that couldn't he.

I scanned passed the queen. I knew that she would be the most understand out of them all.

My eyes rested on Arthur.

I saw that he was nervous when Elsa turned up after Morgana was taken.

I stood next to Gaius, feeling drawn to this woman.

She was every familiar but I couldn't put my finger on what made me recognise her.

"Gaius, who is she?" I believed it was weird when she said old friend to Uther. Maybe Gaius knew her as well.

"She is someone you don't want to get involved with." Gaius said without taking his eyes off her.

I just couldn't help that maybe something happened between them but I didn't question it further. Gaius' tone made it clear that was the end of the conversation.

I watched her as she bowed her head low after she found out that Morgana had been taken.

Have I caused her pain by poisoning Morgana? Why does she look so familiar?

I looked over to my master but he was looking everywhere but the woman. I would ask him later, I'm sure I would get something out of him.

"Who was she?"

Arthur looked up from his place at his desk.

"I am sorry, who?" He said putting down the quill he had in his hand.

"The woman this morning, the one that asked for Morgana. Who is she?"

"She is an old friend of my father." Arthur left it there and went back to what he was doing.

"But doesn't she have magic?"

My master looked at me again. "I know it is hard to believe but my father did once let magic flow through the walls of Camelot. Rumours had it he went to Elsa, the woman, for magical help."

I went deep into thought.

Why was Arthur quick to answer me? He looks pained. Maybe I uncovered some bad memories. Elsa, wasn't she my mother's friend. That's why she looked familiar, I did recognise her. Wow Uther did a lot to her. I thought he would have executed her. I will ask Gaius later. Wait Gaius may not give you anything because if earlier. Well I wouldn't hurt to try.

"Come on, we are on the next patrol to search for Morgana." Arthur said quickly leaving.

############################################# Merlin's POV#############################################

Now I knew why. To see a family friend go through all that must have been awful, especially when you think so highly of them.

Gaius gave me nothing more.

I found out very little about her over the next few years.

She was very excited when she came to find Gaius about her sight.

It was probably better that she found me and I told Gaius.

"Haha, Gaius I told you I would get it back." Elsa said slamming the door open.

She stood there for a few minutes, like she was evaluating me.

"I defiantly recognise you now Elsa." I joked to her. It was good see her eyes again. They were as bright as I remembered them.

"Merlin. It's good to see you. How are you and your mother?" She said with the biggest smile ever on her face.

"I am good and so is she. They had a hard winter but they managed to get through it."

"Emrys." she breathed.

"I'm sorry." I said shaking my head.

"You are Emrys. You are the person I have been waiting for."

Elsa looked at me in admiration.

"We are getting there."

"Arthur is turning into the king I am happy with but you have to get Agriavine away from him. He will spoil everything that we fight for."

I nodded.

"What was I thinking?" Elsa said turning her back to me. "Tell Gaius I came to say hello and that I told him so."

Before I could utter a word Elsa was out of the door.

I told Gaius as we sat round the table at supper.

"She can see again?" Gaius was so shocked about this.

"Yes isn't brilliant?" I felt like getting out of my chair I was filled with excitement.

"Merlin isn't not brilliant?"

"Why not?" My face dropped.

Gaius stared at his stew. "Because she is a danger to all of us. She believes things that will not happen."

"She believes in me. She called me Emrys."

"No she doesn't." Gaius got up and left the room with his medicine bag.

########################################### Merlin's POV################################################

To this day I still don't know why Gaius wasn't happy about her sight.

I knew she wasn't dangerous, not to Arthur.

Mordred started to tap the table.

I tried to block the noise. I still had much to think about. I knew that Arthur's perception on magic had to change before Albion could come about but I still thought that there was more that I could think about. Like the regrets that I had about Morgana and Mordred. I had tried to kill my own half-brother.

"I am worried about her."

Nobody else felt ready to break the silence any more. Most of them had been scared by the youngest.

"My mother isn't exaggerating. He really does hate her as much as she says. He would burn her to a crisp."

Everyone still remained silent. I saw Mordred looked at them for someone to do something. I was going to say something but I saw Morgana moved out the corner of my eye. I just hoped she wasn't going to do anything stupid.

Morgana pushed her chair back hard so it squeaked across the floor that I almost shielded my ears.

"I don't know about you but I want to see this lizard that has told us how to live our lives and who is evil and who isn't?" She turned on her heal and made it for the door.

I quickly followed after her. The dragon wasn't her biggest fan and I had started to see why she had done the things she did. Talk about do what you think is right and damm the consequences. She had done everything out of fear from Uther, herself and me. I wish I could have saved her.

I heard the footsteps behind me but didn't want to know who it was.

I just hoped that I could save Morgana this one time.

I started to call to her.
