When Donna was on her way home from the appointment with Dr. Luria, she stopped by the store to pick up what she needed for dinner. It wasn't much—just some bread sticks and chocolate-covered strawberries.
Once inside, she called Hank's best friend, Pete, for a small favor, since she needed an hour more to get everything ready. Pete answered his phone, but before he could say anything, Donna quickly said: "Hi, are you with Hank?"
"Yes," Pete replied, looking over at his friend. Hank gave him a quizzical look and pointed to the door, indicating if Pete needed some privacy. Pete nodded yes, so Hank got up and left with a smile, thinking it was some girl calling him.
"Okay, he's now gone," Pete said. "I think he thinks I'm talking to a girl to make plans… But what do you need?"
Donna laughed and said, "I need a favor. Can you stall Hank for an hour? Please, I will owe you."
"Sure I can, but why can't he come home until an hour later?"
With some embarrassment, Donna said, "I'm making a romantic dinner for him."
"Have fun," Pete said with a small laugh of amusement. "An hour, right?"
"Yes, thank you! I owe you."
"'Bye, Donna," Pete chuckled, and hung up.
Pete walked down to Hank's office, already planning how he would stall him. He knocked politely on his already open door. "Hey, do you wanna head out for a drink after work?"
Hank looked up at Pete. "Sure, but only an hour."
"Perfect," said Pete, and he went back to work.
Donna turned her iPod on with her headphones in her hears with some upbeat music cranked up. It was loud enough that she didn't hear the ringing of her cell when Ed tried to call. She was busy making meatballs, spaghetti sauce, salad and bread sticks as she danced around the kitchen.
Ed was getting concerned when she didn't answer. He looked down at his cell and frowned, deep in thought as to the possible reasons why Donna might not be answering. Sam walked by right then and saw his expression.
"What's wrong, Ed?" Sam asked.
"I can't get a hold of Donna," Ed answered worriedly.
"Well, I talked to her Saturday night," Sam said helpfully. "She was in a good place. I think Spike talked to her yesterday, too."
"Okay, I'll find Spike. Thanks, Sam," Ed muttered, and went to track down his other teammate. It didn't take him long to find him, as he was doing maintenance on Babycakes.
"Spike, did you talk to Donna lately?" asked Ed.
"Yeah, we talked yesterday. She sounded good, but they weren't at home."
"Where were they?"
Spike said with a smile, "I'm going to go quote Donna and give you the same answer when I asked: 'That is none of your business. You don't need to know'. But I heard a carousel in the background."
However, Spike was leaving out one detail: Hank had then taken Donna's phone, told him to have a good night, thanked him for calling, and hung up. No way Ed needed you know that part. Spike remembered he'd just laughed about it and told Winnie.
Ed was partly reassured by Spike's information. "Fine, I'll try again," he said, and left the room to dial Donna's number again. As soon as he pulled out his phone to call her, Donna called Ed back. He answered, but before he got a word out, Donna said a little breathlessly, "I'm okay, but can't talk now. 'Bye!" and hung up.
Ed was just looking at his phone in shock. Right at that moment, Sergeant Parker walked by.
Sarge asked, "Eddie, what's wrong?"
"Donna just called me back. Before I could say one word, said she was okay and hung up on me," Ed replied, still a little shocked by the abruptness of Donna's call. "I think Spike has more info from when he called her yesterday, but he won't say anything."
"Maybe Spike is protecting Donna privacy," Greg said. "I'm sure it's nothing. You know if it was serious he come to one of us."
"Copy that," Ed said glumly, still not quite happy.
After calling Ed, Donna went back to dancing and finishing dinner. She set the table with candles and got the wine glasses out for sparkling juice. Then she went to go grab a quick shower. She dressed in jeans with a black blouse that had purple bling on it with a black tank top underneath. She curled her hair and applied a bit of makeup to her face. By the time she was done and had dinner on the table, Hank was home. Donna greeted him with passionate kiss. Hank was shocked but happy at this greeting, and everything clicked with Pete's phone call and going out and Pete teasing him. After they enjoyed the dinner Donna had prepared and cleaned up, they sat on the couch watching Night at the Museum, feeding each other chocolate-covered strawberries. But they ended up making out and didn't finish the movie because they had other plans...
The next morning they woke up cuddling; tired and sore, but very happy. Donna got up with Hank and made breakfast. After eating, Hank left for work with a smile on his face, and Donna went back to bed.
