Chapter 13
Nights were the hardest for me. Every single dream was made up of nothing but nightmares. I dreamed about the horrors that my wife was enduring.
There was nothing I could do to save her right now. All I could do was search with the others and hope that we find her in time.
I searched day and night with the others but no sign of my dearest wife appeared, and it looked as if Oni had completely vanished as well. We saw nothing of him, except for the Heartless; the dark creatures roamed everywhere, covering everything with their darkness.
For months and months, we searched, fought, searched, fought, searched, and fought. I could only think about how Oni now had the seven maidens, and how he was somehow influencing another world entirely.
Three months. My wife was due with the child any day now. I pushed myself to the limit. For nearly ten days, I neither slept nor ate. My student pushed me to eat something, but I was too worried.
On the tenth day, my student and I had crossed all the land and now stood nearly at the same place where we met Luxu. The desert sun beat down on us as we walked.
"Master, you should rest. You're pushing yourself too hard."
"I'll rest when I find my family." I refused to listen to him. Turning my face towards the sun, I inwardly cursed its light and heat. It did nothing to me but cause me pain and annoyance. A few more steps, that's all I took before a wave of nausea rolled over me. I felt my head begin to spin and my eyes began to see black spots. My entire vision turned dark as I felt myself hit the ground.
My student's voice seemed so far away as he shouted. "MASTER!?"
My mind wandered through the blackness, searching for consciousness again. The darkness broke apart and I found myself wandering around an unfamiliar place. The sky was a beautiful dark blue, glittering with stars; the silver grass came up to my knees and fluttered in the cool breeze that blew across the land. Off to the left I could see a forest and all the trees had silver leaves that seemed to give off light of their own.
"What kind of place is this? It's beautiful, but something is so strange about it." I wandered around. "Is this where my wife is being held?"
Further along, I saw a castle made of white stone that glittered in the silvery light of the trees. "What is this?"
I tried to open the doors, but it would not open. As I pulled on the doors, I heard a voice in my heart. "You will save all…"
I looked around, not hearing anything more. The beautiful world began to sway and fade before my eyes and I soon found myself looking into darkness once more.
When my eyes opened, I saw the celling of a cave above me. Light flickered across it and cast strange shadows on the rocks from the fire I could hear crackling beside me. "Ugh… where am I?"
"In a cave."
I slowly sat up, looking around. "You're all here?" Fuyu and Raiden sat nearby.
"And you pushed yourself too far." Fuyu smacked the back of my head. "Your student told us that you passed out because you haven't eaten or slept in days. We're all worried about Kokoro, but killing yourself won't help!"
"I'm sorry…"
Raiden sighed. "You've been out cold for four days. Kazuhiro was able to drag you here and then contacted all of us."
"I'm fine, you didn't have to come."
Fuyu shook her head. "You're such an idiot. Of course, we came, and anyways, your student had some wonderful information that you will be happy about."
"What is it?"
"Don't worry," the swordsman sighed. "You get some rest. When you wake up again and when your student gets back we'll explain more."
I groaned and laid back. "Where is my student?"
"Don't worry… just sleep or I'll make you."
"Fu, calm down."
The two bickered as sleep overtook me again. Part of me wanted to see that beautiful world I'd seen in my dreams again, but my sleep filled with more fearful thoughts about my wife and unborn child.
"Master!?" As I sat up, Kazuhiro tackled me in a hug. "I was so worried!"
"I'm fine, Kazuhiro."
Raiden smiled. "Now, we can begin."
"Begin what?"
"Well, Master." My student stood up. "I found where Oni was hiding, and where he is keeping Master Kokoro and the other maidens of light."
"WHAT!?"
"His information is correct." Fuyu nodded. "I went and scouted it out. Behind a nearby mountain range is a large canyon. It is covered in magic, and with the right spell, you can see past the magic shell. In the canyon there is a castle made of black stone. Heartless are all around it and I saw Oni through one of the windows.
I stared at her. "Are you certain?"
"Absolutely."
I took my student's hands. "Thank you, Kazuhiro! But, how did you find that place."
"Well…" the boy wrung his hands. "Luxu showed me."
"Luxu?"
"He saw you pass out and helped me bring you here, and he showed me where I could find Oni, then he vanished again."
Raiden raised an eyebrow. "Luxu?"
I looked over at the other two. "A boy from Ephemer's world. We don't know much about him, but it does appear that he is on our side. Now, if we know where to go, what is the plan?"
"Well, we know that Kokoro could give birth any day now, or she has already given birth, so we have to move fast. We don't have time to wait for the other masters to get here. The four of us will have to do it ourselves." Raiden clenched and unclenched his fists as he talked. "Fu and I will have to hold off Oukoku while you two rescue Kokoro and the maidens. If your wife has given birth, Oni might have moved your child somewhere else in the castle."
I nodded. "I wish we had the others, but we will have to do without."
"Indeed," Fuyu nodded. "Now, rest up and eat, Oukoku. We leave at sundown tonight."
Ah, the intensity! We're actually about 4-5 chapters from the end.
