Hey! So many people want to know what Cody might be! I would love for you all to guess :) and see if you get it right! I will give you one hint: Not a witch! Okay moving on!
I received a question! I was asked what was up with the seasons here because I had mentioned the originals a bit sooner then in the show! Yes I did do that :P and I guess I should tell you that I sorta mix things together sometimes. I do this on purpose to sorta move things a long. I will skip little things and add stuff that never happened etc. I like to think of a bit of it as AU and the rest a sort of ripple effect. It makes sense to me that a new OC or two would change things up eventually. But for now yes I wanted Isobel to have mentioned that someone was coming for Elena and that maybe she shouldn't be around the Salvatore brothers etc. Hope that is cool with my wonderful followers! I assure you I will keep all the main big things in this story :) And thank you for your awesome review! Don't be shy!
Chapter 14:
Gretta remained quiet for a while as Elena explained all she knew about the person coming after her. This unfortunately wasn't very much. She wasn't so sure who it was just yet or even why. Only that they should be feared above all included Isobel. They were cruel and did what they had to in order to get what they wanted.
How would staying away from vampires help her now? If the person or person's coming for her wanted to take her then how would be alone help anything? There were many things Elena wasn't sure of. But she knew one thing. Isobel was not mother to her. The short time she had been around her had taught her this fact. Then to have her Uncle John just arrive out of the blue... Her last few weeks hadn't been the best.
This sent chills down Gretta's spine. For so long they had been safe. Then she lost everything in one very vivid day. Now she had a feeling Cody and these... People would be in danger much longer then just one day.
"And Isobel told you that he was coming for you? Why would she even do that? If she is the mother you claim she is." How could they even trust her if what Cody had learned about their biological mother was true?
"I think deep down she does care. It's creepy, there really is no other way to explain it. But ya, that's pretty much all she told me." She shrugged, "But I'm not running from this. This is my home and I intend to stay here." Elena felt Stefan's angry glare on her. But she was stubborn, he should know that by now. She wasn't leaving Mystic Falls.
"And you want us to stay here?" Gretta cut in. "Put Cody in danger."
"Why would we need Cody to stay here?" Damon scoffed. What could she even do? Time travel? As far as he knew these two were nothing but liabilities.
Gretta's eyes went from Elena to Damon in an instant. "You need my sister." Cody could do things she couldn't explain. She had told her all the things she had discovered so far about herself over the last few days and even Gretta could see that she was something... Powerful.
"I'm not asking you to do anything." Elena was a bit unnerved by Gretta's rude comment, but she pressed on anyways. "I am glad to meet you." She smiled at Cody. "And if you would stay I would be happy to get to know you. But I wouldn't force you to do anything."
"I'm not just going to leave. I came here to find my family years ago and now that I have I don't intend to leave." Her eyes trailed from Elena to Gretta, "If you want to go then I won't stop you. I just hope you can see that maybe this is where we were meant to end up. At least for now." She pleaded with Gretta, hoping the girl would stay. She didn't know this time yet and Cody worried that if Gretta was to leave on her own she would fall prey to the first bad thing she came across.
Gretta's face was hot, her cheeks red, "Our entire family just died." She tried to remind her sister of that fact.
"We don't know that..." Cody shook her head, "Calder yes... And I will always remember our brother Gretta. Whatever it was that brought me to you has brought you and I back here to this place. We found these people." She sighed, pushing up from the couch, "I'm not leaving."
"Okay. So you stay with me then." Elena smiled. "My Aunt's house." More family.
"This dress is awful." Elena grumbled as Jenna pulled the ribbons tight across her waist. Tradition.
"Yah well.. Suck it in baby." Jenna smiled, her mind wandering to the two other girls she had to clothe. She had another Niece out in the world and she was here now. Elena had found her somehow. It never crossed her mind; saying no. The girl and her friend Gretta would stay with them. I'll have to get bunk beds... She laughed to herself. How else would they fit in this small house? And with John creeping around it would be something she didn't forget anytime soon.
"These aren't that bad." Gretta grinned, twirling in her green dress. "Better then pants anyways."
"You have no idea how much I missed pants." Cody moaned, "This is awful... Can I at least wear these boots?" She pleaded, staring down at the black doc martins gifted to her by the Salvatore brothers.
"We are part of the founding families, this is what we do. It's tradition." Jenna told them, remembering how much she had hated it when she was their age. "It's only for one night. I'm sure you will live... And no boots."
"What are you doing here?" Stefan sighed, knowing the reason before Damon ever spoke. His brother standing there by the town square where the set up had begun for the founder parade.
"Oh come on brother, we're founders." He smiled smugly at Stefan. "Look I get it alright? We didn't find Katherine in the tomb and you think that that means she ran off. You think that because Katherine might be out of the picture that I would turn my attention to Elena. But that is where you are wrong brother." He raised his brow. He wasn't into Elena. "Elena isn't Katherine."
"You're right. She isn't." Stefan nodded. They were vastly different. Damon's eyes moved from his, glaring off towards the marching band. Stefan followed suit, his eyes landing on the three girls. It felt as if someone punched him hard in the chest as he stared at Elena in her yellow founder's dress. She was a vision.
"This cannot be real." Damon muttered, his eyes trailing the three women. Each one unique and beautiful in their own color. But Cody was something different. It was as if she shone with such a light that could blind a man. What was it about this family? He shrugged it off quickly. He had to focus.
"You look beautiful." Stefan smiled, taking Elena aside along with Cody. Gretta followed Damon awkwardly, hoping he wouldn't tease her.
"What is it?" Elena asked him, searching his face.
"It's about your uncle John." Stefan said, looking at both of them now. He knew Cody had met him earlier back at the Gilbert house. "John Gilbert dated Isobel when she was younger... I am fairly sure that he might be your father."
"Is that even possible?" Cody asked, confused. Two children with this guy when they were kids? Two different times? Wouldn't you learn the first time that maybe you should use some sort of... Protection?
"He's an awful man..." Elena said, touching her forehead. "One accident I could understand... But two? And to give us both up?" So many questions bobbed through her head.
"Look... I am sorry I told you before all this.. But I had hoped to tell you before Damon dropped it on you both in some typically inappropriate way." The idea that his brother would hurt her drove him. He would be as honest with her as he could. Hopefully by doing that they could avoid any upset Damon may cause.
"He doesn't seem that bad." Cody said. For what reason? She wasn't sure. Sometimes things just seemed to fall out of her mouth. "He's just upset." Hurt. She wasn't sure why but she hoped to find out. Whatever it was that Stefan had done to him must be enough for Damon to feel he had to take it out on Stefan. No one was perfect, she knew this. But there was some good in Damon; somewhere.
"You don't know my brother. But you will." Stefan told her. It was always in the back of his mind; what he had done. But after all this time couldn't Damon move on? Why did he feel he had to torture him all these years? It seemed easier when he just went away. No contact.
Cody sat in the Grill along side her sister Gretta, having had a long day. Damon watched her off and on, giving her those looks she remembered clearly from Niklaus. It reminded her just how far away those memories were. But to her they were still so close to home. Whatever it was that made this type of man fawn over her she wasn't sure. She wasn't even sure she wanted to know. She wished to have a peaceful life alongside her new family and old. She wished to be left alone.
But it was different with Damon. She knew he wanted nothing more then to rattle Elena and Stefan. This would make it much easier on her to ignore his crap. Her eyes shifted around the small bar until they found where Elena stood now. Damon smiling down at her with that smug grin on his stupid face. Cody sighed, it never went away did it? But as she laughed to herself her mood shifted. Where there was once... Thoughts. There was nothing. Elena was blank to her.
She didn't do it often. She preferred to stay out of people heads. It made life way easier for her; not knowing what people really thought of each other or why. But lately she wasn't so sure it was a great idea. She wanted to know if they were hiding things from her or if Gretta would steal away in the night. But to hear nothing at all? This wasn't normal. This is what is was like to read a vampire. An almost cold silence; buzzing in an empty room.
She shifted to Gretta,
'I hate this place. I love this dress... and that cute boy with the blond hair...'
She looked back at Elena again, but still she heard nothing. As Damon walked away from her she wondered if it was something she should mention? But shrugged it off until later when they could talk alone about it.
"What is it?" Gretta asked her, her attention moving from the blond boy at the table nearby, to her sister.
"I'm not sure. But something isn't right."
"Damon?" Anna called out, grabbing onto the vampires arm.
"What, you're still around?" He asked her, wondering why the hell after all this time the tomb vampires stuck around here.
"There's something you need to know. The other vampires from the tomb... They're planning something for tonight. An attack on the town." She crossed her arms over her chest nervously, hoping that they weren't nearby to over hear her.
"And you know this how?"
"They think I'm with them.. But I'm not." She looked around again, doing a quick double take of the crowd around them, "They want to kill the members of the founding families."
"When is this supposed to happen?" He asked, shaking his head in confusion. Why did he even give a shit?
"When the fireworks start."
It all clicked then. John had the invention in his dirty little fingers. "John Gilbert wants to use the invention on them."
"Then we can't be here. We have to leave." She let go of his jacket and began to move towards the crowd but he stopped her, holding her arm.
"It doesn't work, it's been deactivated."
"And that's better? A lot of people are going to die!" She fought back, pulling her arm from his grasp, "They're already here Damon."
Elena, Gretta and Stefan moved through the busy late night crowd. Cody followed close to them, feeling a bit of nervous energy about the fireworks. She wasn't sure if Gretta would enjoy it. And it had been years since her and her adopted parents had done anything like this. Then to have ended up with those... Foster parents. It had been a long time.
On top of all of that she was confused by what was going on around her. Why could she hear Elena's thoughts now and not before? What the hell was going on?
"Hey." Damon said, grabbing her hand. Cody pulled away quickly and eyed him as did the others.
"Damon what are you doing?" Elena asked, raising a brow.
"Tomb vampires are on the way, founding families are their target." He told them, trying to look inconspicuous.
"Tomb vampires..." Cody said, not understanding fully.
"Old vampires that Damon let out of prison recently. Really strong." Elena told her.
"We need to leave. Now." Damon stressed, reaching for Cody once again. He wasn't sure why he kept doing it, but he told himself it was to save them all. "Fine." He said as she pulled away. "I gotta go."
As Damon walked away Elena began towards the crowd. "Where are you going?" Stefan called out to her.
"Jeremy's still out here somewhere. We can't just leave him here to die." She called back.
