Isabelle was sniffling along with Thomas and Neil next to her.

Today was her father funeral.

Isabelle felt numb the entire time; she only felt when Thomas and Neil were holding her hands. She tried to receive comfort from her mother, but she was like a zombie, she didn't respond to her and rejected her daughter's pleas.

The only mouse she saw that wasn't crying was her grandmother, Ella. She never had seen her grandmother look so stern or stiff before. After the procession, Isabelle, Neil and Thomas went behind a tree and sobbed the rest of their tears. They then heard yelling behind them and looked.

Polly and another aunt, Alice, are talking to Ella, who was holding her face.

"Oh Aunt Ella, are you alright?"

"I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm fine!"

She then moved to the side, sobbing.

"I can run all the way to Louisiana and back, but my son cant." She sobbed. "He never could."

Ella then started to pace, looking at Alice and Polly in anger.

"I want to know why! I want to know why, I want to know why Tobias life is over I want to know why he would never see Isabelle grow up, I want to know if she will always remember the wonderful man her father was! God I want to know why! Whyyyyyyyyyy?!"

Isabelle watched as Ella sobbed, shocked by the outburst. She never saw her grandmother break down, much less cry. Ella suddenly shook her head and started to pace again.

"No, no. it wasn't supposed to happen this way. I was supposed to go first, I always been ready to go first."

Ella then started to walk away, Polly and Alice following her, but the elder mouse held up her hand.

"I want to be myself now." She said curtly, walking away. The children looked out at each other and followed Ella quietly, seeing she sat on a nearby bench and crying silently. They walked up to her, staring at her.

"Come here, children." She said, with them running into her arms, all sobbing from the loss they had.

AN: Here is when Isabelle's father, Tobias, has died and Nana Ella falling apart.

The speech Ella is saying is actually from the movie Steel Magnolias, when Sally Fields character, May, is crying because her daughter died. That was one of Fields best performances and I just had to use her speech. I could see Ella being like that.

For reference, Ella has 12 children, because people back in the day had a lot of kids like that. Five of them were boys and 7 of them were girls, and Tobias was her favorite child. So, that's why she's taking his death so hard. This is also a turning point in Isabelle's life, her mother will spend the rest of her days in grief and Ella is the one who actually raises her

Anyway, enjoy and comments are loved! I don't own GMD or Steel Magnolias, just the characters you have read here!
