Astrid walked up towards Hiccup, unable to take her eyes off of him. Hiccup swallowed at the goddess walked towards him. Was it actually still Astrid? He knew she was amazingly beautiful, but this was... she was amazing, radiant... any other cheesy words to describe her beauty that flew into his head were also used. She stopped beside him, grinning madly as Stoick started the ceremony.
"Friends, Family, we are here today to join this woman, Astrid Hofferson, and this man, Hiccup Haddock, for life. If any one has any objections, they should speak now." Astrid and Hiccup looked at the crowd, daring someone to speak up. No one did.
"Aye, we will proceed." Stoick placed his war hammer on the table in front of them both. "Place a hand on the hammer," Hiccup's hand went first, then Astrid's. They were barley touching each other, but they could almost feel the power. "In witness O the gods, Ah ask you both to swear to love, protect, and support each other, through the tough and easy times, through every storm that comes your way." Stoick turned to Hiccup. "Do you swear?"
"I swear," Hiccup nodded once, handing a dark green ribbon to his father. Stoick turned to Astrid.
"I swear," she told him, handing over her light blue ribbon. Stoick took the ribbons and tied them around the couple's hands and the hammer.
"You should each have a ring to present." Stoick raised an eyebrow as Hiccup just about pulled the ring out of his pouch, sliding it perfectly onto Astrid's finger. Hiccup scowled as it caught over her knuckle, making Astrid want to giggle as she helped him put it on. Astrid slipped the ring she'd made for him, a little scabbier but still quite nice, onto his finger perfectly. Hiccup mock glared at her, but they both turned back to Stoick, who had a glint of humour in his eye.
"Ah declare you Husband and Wife." Stoick grinned. "Give the lass a kiss then," Hiccup attacked Astrid's lips with his own, cupping her cheek with his free hand.
"Oi!" Tuffnut jested. "We said kiss her, not molest her!" the whole hall broke into laughter as Hiccup and Astrid pulled away from each other, blushing madly. Hiccup grinned, and Astrid grinned back as Stoick untied the two ribbons. This ribbon business was something new, something that those two had come up with by them selves. Astrid tied the blue ribbon around Hiccup's left wrist, his writing and fighting arm. Hiccup tied the green ribbon around her right wrist and kissed her hand. They walked back out of the Meade hall and towards the dragon stables, where Toothless and Stormfly were waiting. Both dragons nuzzled their friends, congratulating them on their mating binding thingy (Neither dragon understood what they were doing), and said hello to the official mate of their friend. Hiccup hugged Stormfly around the neck, scratching under her chin just where she liked it.
Toothless gave Astrid a big lick, making her laugh. Toothless understood that sometimes Hiccup needed his mate and not his friend. Normally when he was in a grumpy mood. So Toothless let Hiccup go to his mate, get angry at her and he was still his favourite dragon.
Toothless smiled to Hiccup and Astrid, who smiled back.
"Hey, Bud." Hiccup let go of Astrid's hand to scratch his friend's head. Toothless made a sound that sounded a lot like a cat purring. Astrid giggled as Stormfly stands next to her. "You're just like a giant cat. With really big teeth." Hiccup grinned.
"Come on! The feast!" Stoick shouted loudly. There was a loud cheer from every one in the village as they made their way back to the Meade hall.
Hiccup took Astrid's hand and led her up to the hall behind every one else. Toothless and Stormfly followed them, grumbling and talking to each other.
"You OK?" Hiccup asked, grinning.
"Yep. You?"
"Better than OK." Hiccup kissed her cheek as they walked into the hall and to the top table. They had centre place, and Stoick was sitting on Hiccup's right for once. Normally it was the other way around, but not for Hiccup's wedding feast. He got centre place with Astrid, while Stoick and Valka happily took the sidelines.
Toothless and Stormfly sat behind their friends, eating the fish that was cooked for them.
"Tonight," Stoick stood and projected his voice over the whole hall. "We celebrate a marriage between two young people, I wish you both many happy years together," he then added quietly; "Welcome to our family, Astrid." Astrid smiled up to him, to happy to care that she must have looked ridiculous.
Stoick sat back down as the food was brought out with the Meade. The party would last long into the night, and probably long after Hiccup and Astrid have left.
Vikings: they like parties.
Somewhere after the first few courses, Hiccup leaned back in his chair and smiled. He could see Tuffnut and Ruffnut arguing playfully about something, both of them on their best behaviour. Snotlout was shouting something at them both every so often, but Fishlegs just seemed content to sit and listen.
"Do you mind if I go see Fishlegs and the others for a minute?" Hiccup asked, taking Astrid's hand and kissing it.
"No, send Ruff up here." Astrid smiled, kissing him quickly as he stood up. He walked over to his friends.
"Ruff, Astrid demands your presence." Hiccup grinned as Ruffnut narrowed her eyes and stood up.
"Demanding me... if it wasn't her damn wedding.." she grumbled, walking over to her friend who placed a fresh goblet of mead in her hand and was instantly forgiven. Hiccup sat down next to Tuffnut in the free seat and grinned to the others.
"You fed up of her already?" Tuffnut asked, raising a dark blonde eyebrow.
"No," Hiccup shook his head. "Came to avoid conversations about offspring."
"Ooh, I'm sure you were having lots of fun with that." Snotlout snickered.
"Ha ha." Hiccup rolled his eyes. "Now you see why I had to escape."
"I do, and I feel your pain. I'd want away from that too." Tuff agreed.
"What were you and Ruff arguing over?"
"MM? Oh, I put salt in her drink." Tuffnut shrugged.
"Why?" Hiccup sighed.
"Cause."
"You're totally and completely forgiven." Ruffnut snatched the drink from her friend and sat in Hiccup's recently vacated seat. Astrid laughed.
"I'm glad, I thought you'd want away from Tuff."
"The Snot troll put salt in my drink." Ruffnut grumbled into the beaker. Astrid laughed again. "You're just too damn cheerful, you know that?"
"I'm allowed to be. I can't wait until you get married!" Astrid laughed hysterically but Ruffnut just gave her the look.
"You really think that Tuff would let me get married? Er... I doubt he would. Even if it was to a god." Ruffnut rolled her eyes. "And besides... Never mind."
"What?" Astrid looked at her best friend, thought sometimes she wondered how they could be friends. Admittedly, the twins were both actually very intelligent, they just chose not to be. It was "easier to be stupid" they'd both told her once.
"It's fine."
"If you're sure," Astrid frowned, but let the matter drop as Hiccup came back over. Hiccup leaned on the back of the two chairs and looked down at Ruffnut.
"I'm pretty sure that's where I'm meant to be sitting."
"Not any more." Ruffnut didn't even look at him. Hiccup scowled at her.
"Ruff, move."
"No,"
Hiccup was about to respond, but Astrid just grinned.
"OK," Astrid pulled Hiccup closer and kissed him passionately on the lips. Hiccup kissed back, trying not to grin when he heard the "Yuck" from Ruffnut, and the scraping of chair legs on the stone floor.
Astrid grinned at him, and he grinned back.
"Love you." he kissed her as he sat down again, one hand resting over the arm of the chair with a scrap of chicken in. Toothless sniffed his way over, eating the chicken excitedly. Astrid narrowed her eyes at him, but her smile gave away that she wasn't really annoyed.
"What are you two up to?"
"Nothing, why do you always assume we're up to something?" Hiccup grinned lopsidedly.
"Because I know you." Astrid laughed.
"And that's why you love me."
Sometime around midnight, Hiccup kissed Astrid's cheek, smiling against her neck.
"You want to go home?" he kissed next to her ear. Astrid nodded, standing up and taking his hand. Stoick grinned.
"You off to bed then?" he announced in a loud voice. Everyone turned to look at the new couple. Astrid was about to stutter some other excuse but Hiccup just grinned.
"None of your business, dad." he grinned, gently pulling Astrid out of the hall and out into the night. He could hear Stoick's booming laugh.
"Marriage looks good on him, but has made him more cheeky." Gobber noted.
"Aye, it has." Stoick laughed. "I'll be a grandpa soon!"
