A/N Hey guys, hope you love the chapter, mostly another cute fluffy one... we'll get into the plot eventually promise!
Oh and I'm going to put this simply.
You. Scare. Me.
Kidding I love you! xx
I own nothing
I hummed in agreement to whatever Tony said, his hand flying as we walked over to the elevator that would led me to his infamous 'workshop.' He stopped to give me a small smile before continuing with his rant about extremely long words and... Other... mechanical things.
"Do you agree?" He suddenly asked once the doors were closed.
I looked over at him with a stupid expression, "I'm sure I would if I had understood a word you had said," I nodded.
He stopped and deadpanned, his face going blank as he stared at me, "Really, Q?" He asked, rolling his eyes fondly as he hid a smile.
I smiled back, letting my head face forward as I watched the floors tick past as we travelled down quickly. I bit my lip as we exited the elevator, my feet stalling for a split second before following Tony's strut. I caught up to him and stood at his side as he entered a code into a small glass panel. I watched him curiously as his fingers flew across the delicate plane of glass before he gestured for me to open the door and walk in.
I smiled brightly as I came into, what I would gladly call; heaven. I whistled and walked calmly in, Tony's dark eyes watching my expression as I scrutinized his work space.
I turned to him suddenly, my lips pursed, "Now this is what I call a workshop," I cheered, a bright smile finally ripping its way onto my cheeks.
Tony looked relieved as he walked over a glass panel, his eyes showing his concentration while his lips showed me his happiness, "You ready to see my baby?" he asked me, turning to meet my eyes as I replied.
I frowned, "You have a mirror in here?" I asked with a sly grin, pointing at myself shamelessly.
He chuckled, "Okay sorry, you ready to see my other, less important baby?" He corrected, smirking at my pout.
I nodded acceptingly, "Definitely," I told him excitably.
He nodded; hesitating before biting his bottom lip, "Uh stay here yeah?" He said before turning to walk back up the way he had come.
I blinked a few times, and watched his figure disappear up the staircase before swallowing and going to sit down. I chuckled as I cleaned off the only visible seat, pushing tools and a handful of papers over onto the table. Tony Stark was an interesting man, I'd gladly say that.
I'll also gladly say that it's the best part about him.
I sighed as I leant forward slightly, my head resting on the cool metal surface of the table. I blinked rapidly before letting my eyes flutter close as my breathing calmed. I had slept like a baby last night and for the first time in years, I was feeling... I was feeling like Quinn Daniels again. It was all thanks to Natasha and Bruce and of course to Stark.
I owed him so much and now it looked like I was in his debt once again.
"Tony? I thought you were showing Quinn your suit?" Natasha asked when she saw the genius heading out of the elevator.
He turned, almost tripping over his own feet as he tried to look at his team mate, "Huh what?" He asked, his face a little flustered as he struggled to regain his composure.
"I thought you were showing Quinn the suit?" She repeated, her bright eyes watching him carefully.
"Oh yes, I was just going to grab the bracelets..." He trailed off, his eyes looking for the fore mentioned items.
"Why?" Steve asked as he came into the room a bottle of water in his hands.
Tony licked his lips, "Then JARVIS can release the Mark VI and I can..."
"Show off to her?" Natasha finished with a raised brow.
Tony sent her a look but nodded nonetheless, "Yeah," he muttered, digging through the many bottles that rested on his bar in his search.
Natasha just nodded as Steve walked over, picking up two fashionable looking items and placing them in front of Tony, an amused expression on his face, "Looking for these?" He asked.
Tony flinched but nodded happily as he took the items and placed them on his wrists, watching as they glowed expectantly. He looked up and gave Steve a small thankful smile before walking past him and hurrying towards the elevator once again.
"She's happy you know," Natasha suddenly said, not looking up from the tablet she was on.
Tony stopped and closed his eyes in slight annoyance; he didn't want to have to deal with Natasha and her puzzles right now. Now he had to get downstairs and show Quinn how far he had come with the suit they had first made together. He wanted to see the look of joy and curiosity on her face when he allowed the suit to envelope him and settle in all its red and gold glory.
He wanted her to look at him with the wide, fond eyes she had always saved for him. God that's all he wanted...
"Natasha?" He asked tiredly.
Natasha looked up and stared at him impassively, "When I met her she was happy but at the same time she wasn't," She said cryptically, "But now, I can see Quinn, the real one, not just the one she pretended to be." The red headed woman continued.
Tony frowned, "That's nice Gingersnaps, now do you mind?" He asked, going to walk towards the elevator again.
"It's because of you." She stated simply.
Tony's heart started racing as he contemplated what Natasha had said, "What do you mean?" The billionaire managed to force out.
"I mean, she's happy and so are you because you have each other," She said before facing the child like man, "Tony," She said sternly gaining his attention, "I just wanted to ask that you try this time, make sure to keep her close and she'll return the favour." She told him.
Tony struggled to breath, "I will, I only wish I had that advice before," He whispered brokenly.
Natasha nodded in understanding as Steve looked down sheepishly, "You have it now Tony," she said, compassion shining in her normally cold voice, "I would give her the same advice but I think she'd do anything for you, going so far as to test her immortality," Natasha said carefully.
Tony nodded, absently playing with the bracelets on his wrists, "I would do anything for her as well." He said defensively.
Natasha smiled softly, "I'm aware of that Tony, it's just that for a genius you can be very thick some times," she said fondly.
Tony frowned and shook his head as he walked into the elevator before turning to Natasha, his eyes going wide as he finally realized what she had said, "What's that supposed to mean?" He demanded.
Quinn's POV
I wandered around the modern and complex work shop idly, my attention being grabbed by small things which quickly proved to be of no entertainment. That was until I came across a large clump of metal that seemed to be following my every move.
"Uh hello?" I said timidly, not sure what I was talking too or if I should be talking to it at all.
"That's Dum-E... Quinn," JARVIS called out, his voice hesitating before stating my name.
I mouthed oh before taking a few hesitant steps forward, "Hello Dum-E?" I managed to force out, my eyes blinking rapidly as I looked on with curiosity.
The machine whirled and straightened, no longer hunching in on itself. It made a few noises at me as it came forward, a single metal claw clicking at me incessantly.
My lips twitched up in amusement as I stared at the machine, one brow raised, "JARVIS? What did he... Uh... Say?" I asked.
JARVIS replied almost instantly, "Something along the lines of Hello," He said back patiently.
I licked my lips and walked forward, going to sit on the ground in front of the constantly moving robot, "Does Tony give all his robots a personality?" I asked.
I swear JARVIS sighed before he answered me, "Yes Quinn, it would appear so; he prefers it when his works of art can think for themselves and put up a fight. He may act as though he despises us, but his love shows through,"
Did JARVIS just sound sentimental?
I allowed my shock to shine through. "Really? We talking 'bout the same Tony here?" I asked jokingly.
"Yes Ma'am it would appear we are," He said back.
I chuckled and hesitantly lifted up a hand towards Dum-E, "He's cute," I stated as the machine moved back his single claw coming out touch my hand politely.
"Mr Stark is often referred to as handsome Quinn and has ranted on many occasions that he resents the words, cute, adorable or gorgeous," JARVIS informed me without a moment of hesitation.
I spluttered and my gaze snapped up to the ceiling, "I was talking about Dum-E," I snapped, my lips already twitching upwards as I thought about JARVIS's statement.
"My apologies," He said back smartly.
I couldn't stop my laughter at JARVIS tone and instead stood so I could look at Dum-E easier, "Tony's a genius," I said simply. "He makes such amazing things," I mused looking around the room before looking back at the machine in front of me with a large smile.
"His suit is impressive, yes," JARVIS commented.
I smiled, "Once again I was talking about Dum-E and yourself of course," I said to the AI fondly.
"Thank you Miss Daniels—"
"JARVIS!"
"—Quinn," He finished, almost sounding slightly sheepish
I reached out and patted Dum-E's claw gently and almost motherly-like before a deep voice behind me made me jump, "I see you've meet my protégée,"
I turned to give Tony a quick quirk of my brow before nodding and stroking Dum-E's claw, the cool metal a quiet relief for my feverish skin, "He's amazing Tony," I told the genius.
Tony nodded as he stepped up to my side, "But he's annoying," He stated before grabbing my hand and yanking me away from the machine.
"Now you ready to see something mind blowing?" He asked, moving to stand in the clean, clear centre of his workshop.
I frowned, "You're going to act your age?" I asked teasingly.
Tony tuttered, "No Q, I was talking about—"
"Oh you're going to be civil!"
"Quinn!" He yelled, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
I winked at him, going to sit on the seat I had cleared after moving it forward, "Well as much as I would like to see the fore mentioned things, I want to see Ironman first," I told him, blinking lazily.
He nodded before looking up at the ceiling, "Jarv, you know what to do," He stated
"I don't think this is the best idea Sir, the Mark VI needs room to—"
"Jarv, just do it," Tony scolded, shaking his head as he held out his arms.
I heard JARVIS—honest to God—sigh before he answered with a quick yes Sir and a loud whirling sound filled the work space. I fidgeted slightly as a loud bang erupted, my hands flying up to cover my face in fright. I whimpered quietly into my arms as more clangs and bangs echoed around me before I gingerly looked through the cracks of my fingers.
I let my jaw drop as I saw the iconic gold and red suit flying as it enveloped Tony quickly, the parts arranging themselves around the billionaire quickly, the mask finally clicking into place with a loud, and oddly familiar, clang.
I stood up timidly, loud bangs sounding as he turned to face me, the sound of metal hitting concrete echoing through the workshop. I let out a quick breathless laugh, my gaze flying over his metal clad body. Don't get me wrong, I had seen the suit on the news and what not but seeing it in person, on the man I... Hmm... Deeply cared for was something else.
"Tony... It's incredible," I gushed, moving forward before skittering back as he took a step towards me.
He lifted his hands, the same whirling noises sounding, "Whoa, Quinn easy there," He chuckled, the warm laugh sounding tinny.
I cocked my head, "Sorry," I murmured, my eyes quickly moving over the suit, mentally categorizing what differences he had made since the first... Uh Mark I? Well the large clumpy metal thing... You know.
"Do you like it?" Tony's far away sounding voice hit me.
I nodded, "Yes, oh yes," I told him, finally getting the guts to move forward and let my fingers ghost over the shiny metal.
"I guess you haven't had a chance to work with machines in a while?" He asked again, lifting his palm and facing it upwards so I could place my hand on top of his.
"No, science mostly," I told him, frowning as I felt warmth radiating from the centre of his palm.
"You work?" He asked, watching me as I absorbed everything I could about my favourite work of art by Tony Stark.
I nodded, "AntiGen, science division," I said reluctantly, knowing that Stark Industries and AntiGen didn't have the friendliest history. I looked at the small white circle in his palm... Ah so he shot his repulsor rays from here?
"AntiGen?" He demanded, not pulling back his hand, "Why the hell do you work for them?"
I shrugged, "Only place I could find a job and the CEO thinks my powers... Are interesting." I shrugged, dropping his hand to look at his arc reactor.
"The CEO knows about the whole... Can't die thing?"
I nodded, "Yeah. I have a pretty easy job," I told him, smiling up at the mask, "Kind of like you," I winked.
His mask shot up and I could see his now agitated features, "All right then," He said angrily.
"Tony?" I asked gently.
"Of all the people you could've worked for," He muttered, looking away childishly.
I scoffed, "Oh yeah like I could've work for you," I said back.
"Alright, done deal," Tony said shooting me his signature smirk.
I nodded before hesitating, "Wait what?" I asked my hands stopping their curious movements.
"You work for me now, so call up Mr Big Shot and quit," He practically growled out, his jealously shining through. I rolled my eyes but nodded reluctantly, humouring the childish genius.
I raised a brow, "Will I be getting paid because I have an apartment to pay for," I told him, stepping back when he gestured for me to do so.
The suit started getting swiftly removed by various mechanical arms as I waited for Tony to answer my question. As much as I would love a job here I needed the money to keep up with my payments on my car and apartment. Not to mention my Student Loans.
Once the suit was fully removed Tony looked over to me as he walked towards the glass door, "Okay you can be paid as much as you want and or need. And to remove this pesky rent problem... I offer you a room here," He said, and before I could respond he nodded and clapped his arms loudly, "Great, good choice, you can start working once you've settled down and we'll help you move in tomorrow,"
I watched him leave the room, his smug smirk set in place as I let my jaw go slack, "Hey wait a minute!"
I hope that was good :) a review would be helpful... hint hint!
