Wow, 5 years later and I was feeling nostalgic about the Hunger Games... I'm sure everyone who read this story has moved very, very far on, but as I was rereading I got disappointed that it ends so abruptly and I apologize for letting you down (five years ago now, but still). Reading through my archives, I found a PM I sent to acereader55, whose tribute I believe, was Hayden, explaining how the story was supposed to end. In case you were curious:
Wandering in the woods, Ken (district 1) begins plotting exactly how he will find the remaining tributes and how he will kill them. Unfortunately, after narrowly escaping a mutt attack, he is incredibly exhausted, but has no food. He succumbs to starvation.
Amia and Atala would do a Rue and Katniss, splitting up to carry out a grand plan against the careers. Unfortunately, it would not be completely successful and Amia would fall to the Careers (probably Amethyst).
In a similar fashion, Erina would have gotten separated from her allies, and been killed in an ambush by the careers, likely on the same day as Atala. Feeling shaken, Myria and Tetnus would nevertheless agree to remain allies as long as they could.
If the math is right, we've reached the final eight:
The next day, Patrick, whose tirades against the capitol were getting more and more outrageous, would have been killed off by the gamemakers in a brutal mutt attack, with the idea that his death might be a warning to future rebel tributes.
The day of Patrick's death, Daphne reads the writing on the wall and splits from the careers (now just Amethyst and Jaret). She makes it on her own for a day, until she runs into Atala. They fight, and both end up dead.
Two days later, the Gamemakers engineer some kind of natural disaster, in an attempt to force all the tributes into closer quarters. Myria sacrifices herself so that Tetnus can run.
This leaves Amethyst and Jaret, Tetnus, and Hayden as the final four. That was as far as I had thought it out, but here are some final thoughts.
Although I would have loved to write some angst pitting Amethyst against Jaret, because this originally started as an SYOT, I would have felt it was unfair to make my district two OCs actual win.
Therefore, the final four would likely meet in some kind of Feast-like standoff so that Jaret might have the chance to be overwhelmed in a fight. I must admit, I always had a soft spot for Tetnus, so here's one way it could have gone...
Mutts drive the four to the Cornucopia (original, I know) and Amethyst and Jaret decide to take the opportunity to attack the last two tributes. Hayden holds his own well, and manages to wound Jaret before being attacked by a mutt. Either the mutts or Amethyst would finish him off. Before Amethyst can attack Tetnus, the mutts attack her. She fights them and tries to protect herself and Jaret, while Tetnus climbs the cornucopia and stays out of her way. A few of the mutts make it up the cornucopia and Tetnus fights them, while Amethyst and Jaret are slowly overwhelmed. Not wanting to be ripped apart by mutts and die in agony, they kill each other out of mercy? friendship? vengeance? something like that. Tetnus and the capitol did not see that coming, but Tetnus wins.
Alternatively, the same scenario could happen except Hayden might climb up on the cornucopia too, leading to some kind of showdown that I have not really imagined.
[If I'd had my way and let my OCs make it, Amethyst probably would have won.]
So there you have it, 3-4 possible endings, written in the least satisfying way possible. But closure, I guess?
Thanks to everyone who reviewed, thanks to all the people I met on fanfiction all those years ago, and I hope you all have a lovely day!
