Breaking into mid morning the bustle resumed itself again. Within the medical chamber Sahara was on the floor passed out, content in sleep with Oasis right beside her. Abe had recently awoken and was now focused down on Sahara. Heart heavy yet bright towards her, he was touched at her loyalty and friendship.
'Sahara. Sara wake up my dear.'
Grumbling and stirring, tail twitching over her body, she resisted the wake up call.
'Always the one relentless to hold on to sleep no matter what, just like Red.'
With a start she popped up off the ground and looked to the tank.
"Abe!" She breathed.
He gave a head nod and that smile.
Awaking fully and gathering herself she sat up on her knees facing the tank.
Sahara, "How long have you been awake?"
Abe, "Well my first bit of consciousness was during the night, I believe. I saw that you were here asleep sitting guard at my tank. Then I awoke again only a handful of minutes ago."
Sahara, "Oh I'm so glad."
She clutched her heart and looked skyward giving thanks. Coming down she asked, "Do you need anything? Anything I can do for you?"
He chuckled, "You've done quite enough. All that I want is for you and Oasis to get something to eat and take care of yourselves."
She titled her head, "All I did was sit here with you."
Abe, "Yes, and helped me along in my healing process. You calmed me and soothed my traumatized head with beautiful memories."
Her eyes grew wide in shock, embarrassment whipping her hard in the face.
"You saw my memories?" She said bewildered.
He nodded, "And I heard your lamenting words and that Professor Broom is no longer with us."
His eyes suddenly bore the pain they all felt at the knowledge of his sudden murder. She lowered her head at the mention of his abrupt passing.
"And I know that you had this terrifying dream last night, that you needed me to help you through the terror."
Again her eyes grew wide, "How? How could you see all this?"
Abe, "Well I had no choice in the matter being unconscious and all, yet with you having physical contact with the glass on my tank, it connected me to your psyche."
She then remembered how she was leaned up against the cold glass all yesterday and that before she went to sleep she patted the glass whispering her good nights to him. Her hand must've staid there through her dream.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to see all of that. I didn't even know you were able to still see within my mind with your condition."
Abe, "There's no need for apologizing Sara. I'm thankful that I was blessed with those bright memories. Yet with that dream, I don't recall you having that one too often. What brought that about?"
She shrugged, "Maybe Broom's death. With my father figure now gone it might've triggered the past of my owner. Since Broom taught me and my owner forbade me to learn, it seems possible."
Abe, "Quite possible, now gather Oasis and go get breakfast."
She smiled at him to then pick up Oasis.
Standing back up she added, "Do you want me to bring you anything to eat?"
He shook his head, "I'm hooked up to an IV so my sustenance is being kept."
Sahara, "Still that doesn't compare to actual food."
Abe, "Don't worry, I'll survive. I'll see you back here in a little bit."
Argument put to rest she smiled back and ducked out with Oasis.
First she decided to get dressed back into her regular uniform then head for the breakfast hall. Cleaning herself up she found that her leather jumpsuit was now dry but noted that it needed to be cleaned. So she made her way to drop off her outfit at the Bureau's cleaners and then grab some food. Oasis intact, riding on her shoulder.
Walking down the corridor she started up the conversation with herself, "I still want Abe to have something to eat. IV juice can do oh so much. Wouldn't you agree?" She said this with a look over at Oasis. "Come let's go steal us some food."
Completing the meal order she requested, she asked if it could be wrapped to go. Claws tapping away at the window to the kitchen she watched as the chef moved around gathering her order. Looking all around, inside and out, she could see that the crew was cleaning out from last night's meal run. In the left side of the kitchen she saw one gathering rotten eggs into a container, about to stow them away in the freezer for later use. Later use probably meant Abe's food supply. Grinning mischievously she nudged Oasis and said, "Go, go!" Scampering down the window and onto the kitchen floor he ran toward the crew-member that now had the freezer door open.
Looking down at his foot he saw Oasis charging at him. Screaming without shame he dropped the container and yelled for help. Playing the part Sahara jumped through the window and ran toward them.
Sahara, "Oh I'm so terribly sorry Sir! I didn't mean for him to wander off like that."
Bending down to gather up Oasis she quickly snatched three eggs away before the crew-member could retrieve them. Standing up with him in her hands she said,
"Again I'm so sorry Sir. It won't happen again."
Turning around she saw that the entire kitchen was on looking at the situation that just occurred. Making her way back to the chef who now was poised at the window holding her order, she grabbed it from him and bid her thanks and farewell.
Just reaching the outside she started jumping and laughing at her success. Sahara, "Way to go buddy! My faithful partner in crime does it again!"
Reaching her shoulder he gave her a quick lick on the cheek before she resumed walking back to Abe's medical chamber.
Entering in Abe perked up at her arrival.
Abe, "Still wanting to bum around so I see."
He smiled as she looked down at her robe.
Sahara, "My uniform is being cleaned at the moment so if ya rather have me walk around naked…"
Abe, "I get the hint. Though it wouldn't be anything I hadn't seen before." Jokingly as he said this, his innocent nature was still intact.
She gasped, "Agent Abraham Sapien! If you weren't in there right now I would smack you silly for that!"
Abe, "I'm just kidding Sara. I'm not like Hellboy you know."
She laughed at this, "True, my prude man."
Abe, "Hey!"
Setting down her meal she reached inside and grabbed the rotten eggs she had stolen.
Sahara, "Look what I got ya!"
She waved them in front of his tank.
Abe, "How did you get them?...Sahara really."
He had already seen the scene play out in her mind. She put her hands up in a defensive gesture.
"What?"
Abe, "You could've asked."
She waved her hand at him, "Nah, it's more fun that way. Besides I had to do something to get my mind off of these recent events."
Grabbing her bag she sat down in front of the cylinder after transporting the eggs into the tank. The two of them ate in contentment. Sahara was sure to break off pieces of her breakfast and feed it to Oasis. The whole family together. Looking up she asked,
"So how does actual food taste compared to your 'sustenance'?"
He attempted his smile, "Nothing can compare."
Rising from her seated position she gathered her trash and bundled it up. Turning to him she asked,
"Don't all these consistent beeping and hissing sounds drive you mad? All these monitors prying their way into your peace of mind with their nagging noises."
Abe, "It doesn't bother me as much. I've been around and worked around these machines for a countless amount years so I've adapted."
Sahara, "Still."
Turning for the door she said, "I'm going to pick up my clothes, they should be ready now. I'll be back boys, don't go too far."
She gave a wink at Abe as he shook his head at her. Closing the door behind her she sighed happily with a smile, leaned up against the door with a dreamy expression on her face. Coming down from her high she went to retrieve her usual outfit.
Walking out the Bureau's dry-cleaners she smiled to herself, hugging her frame. The leather was still warm from the drying and the scent was pleasantly intoxicating. Coming to the end of the corridor spilling out into the rounded lobby, she looked to her right and saw the golden doors of the library. She thought of the annoying sounds those medical systems made and had an idea in fixing that problem but she had to go through ground zero to retrieve what she sought.
With a gulp of air she made her way to stand in front of the the doors. Grabbing a firm hold on both of the handles she paused. Strengthening her hold she yanked the doors open to reveal the leftover aftermath of the cursed crime-scene. Her eyes immediately clouded as soon as she saw Broom's desk and blood stained carpet his body finally rested on. Stepping in subconsciously she reached point blank. Looking down tears spilled over and she dropped to her knees. Head hung low her mind surprisingly remained blank, too overcome with turmoil to process any sort of thought.
Lifting her head she raised her body and took a full sweep of the library. Making a complete spin, her ears and facial expression perked as she saw what she was hunting for. Coming to the roaring fireplace she bundled up all that was required and made her away out of the room. Stepping carefully down the red velvet stairs she cast one last mournful look at Broom's murder spot. With one sigh and a few tears she set herself ahead and exited the library.
…
Refocusing on his world around him, Abe's gaze was brought up to see Sahara enter in with his stereo equipment.
Sahara, "Hey there Aqua Lad!"
Abe, "You're looking more like yourself…You brought my stereo system?"
Sahara, "Indeedly-doo. If the noise in here doesn't bother you it certainly annoys the heck out of me. And even you can't turn down the offer of listening to music."
He gave that smile, "Sometimes I ponder upon you and in times like these, it makes me think that you care too much."
Sahara, "But of course!" Finishing this with a smile she mentally added, 'More than you think.'
He titled his head, "What was that?"
Sahara, "Na,-uh… I said you had more CD's than I thought…I'll just uh, get this set up."
Her fur waxed hot of embarrassment as she turned around and bent herself over fixing up the music system. She probably blew her cover as her mind kept slapping her in the face in telling her that. All she could hope for is that the music takes his mind away from her curious concealing of words and aids in blocking hers.
"There. I believe we are in business!" She said triumphantly.
Abe, "That was rather quick."
She glanced back at him, "I learn from the best."
Thumbing through the stack of CD's she came to one that immediately grabbed her attention.
Sahara, "I don't believe I've ever seen or heard of this one before." Her face was scrunched up in curiosity as she flipped it over reading the song line up.
The title read 'Popular Love Songs' and track number two caught her interest, 'Can't Take My Eyes Off of You'. Giving it the benefit of the doubt she took it out and slid it in. Immediately the beat began and the hypnotizing melody commenced. That single note and background hum presented the tune to only have the intro follow. Sahara immediately started to dance to it.
Sahara, "Wow this song sounds so captivating!"
Swaying her hips and spinning around the room, she tried to mouth the words as the song unfolded. Then the bridge kicked up 'I love you baby, and if it's quite alright I need you, baby, to warm the lonely nights, I love you baby, trust in me when I say… Oh pretty baby, don't bring me down I pray, Oh pretty baby now that I found you stay, and let me love you, baby, let me love you.'
She went wild, banging her head and jumping everywhere. Abe laughed aloud at this, mystified to think that such a genre of song could make a person rock out like they would out as if to a heavy metal concert.
Sahara sang, "'You're just too good to be true!' Wow that song gives ya such a rush!"
Abe, "You truly like that song don't you?"
Sahara, "I believe I found a new branch of music! That song is just so….true and beautiful, and….Wow!" Her eyes were shining.
Abe, "Some might even call it romantic."
Sahara, "Ah yeah….that too…ha ha. I'll play something that might be of more your taste Blue." She stumbled in uttering.
She quickly popped in Chopin Nocturne op.9 no.2 and as recognition hit Abe, his head started to bob along with the piano notes.
Sighing he said, "You can't tell me that you don't find this beautiful and of appealing taste."
She smiled graciously at him, "I do Abe, I truly do. I might even call it romantic."
