Ch. 14- Talkers And Walkers
After hugging Bobby Eve turned to the Yeti.
"He's a friend." she said sweetly. She took Bobby's hand and made him gently stroke the beast's arm. The Yeti trilled happily. "Now let's get back to the cave, okay?" It understood and lead them back to the cave.
"Eve, the thing is in danger." Bobby said to her softly as they were walking. "There's a man wandering around that means to kill it." He slipped her a hand gun. "Don't risk your life, but if you can stop him." Eve took the gun and nodded. She put the gun in her coat pocket. It was discreet enough.
When they reached the cave the Yeti ignited a fire in the glowing embers of the previous fire and plopped down in it's bedded little corner. Bobby looked around the cave amazed.
"Oh, good!" he said picking up a pot. "You have cooking supplies." It was mildly sarcastic, and made Eve laugh. Bobby took the bag off his shoulders and began to set out some of the food. "It's mostly beef jerky, cheese sticks and crackers, but it will get you through till tomorrow. It's suppose to heat up a little so maybe by noon I'll be able to get to town." He then pulled out a couch pillow and a small blanket.
"Thank you." she said taking it.
"Also Sam and Dean are on the way. So if you don't run into that prick before they get here, you and the beast can enjoy us boys chasing him off." Eve smiled and hugged him again. Soon he stood up and way about to leave. "Take care of yourself kiddo." he said to Eve. Then he turned to the beast, "And you take care of her, Yeti. She won't let that hunter hurt you again, but don't let him hurt her. You hear?" The beast nodded and trilled. Eve softly laughed again. Then she waved goodbye to Bobby as he left. She looked over to the beast to see it waving too. She smiling at it as if it was just a cute little puppy.
As Bobby headed back he couldn't help but laugh as he though about the Yeti. When he reached the cabin he found it empty. He looked in every room for the four guests, but they were nowhere to be found. At that moment his cell phone rang.
"Hello?" he answered.
"Did you find Eve?" called Dean.
"Yes. She's fine."
"Did you find the abominable snowman?" he asked.
"Eve did." replied Bobby. "It's fine too. She up at a cave with it."
"Why?!" snapped Dean.
"It was injured. That's why it kidnapped the people. They're fine as well. They were released, and seem to have headed back to town." said Bobby. "Eve is staying in the cave to watch over the Yeti and to make sure that the damn hunter that's after it doesn't come around."
"Wait! There's someone hunting it?!"
"Yeah, that's how it got injured in the first place."
"Don't you think the hunter will come around anyway?!"
"Well if he does, he'll be gunned down by Eve. She's not defenseless, you know."
"But she is just a woman!" snapped Dean.
"Stop insulting her, or I'll tell her what you've said and you'll be next after the hunter." Bobby replied. "When will you fellas be getting to Libby anyway?"
"We'll be there maybe tomorrow afternoon."
"But that means we'll be on the road all night!" called Sam.
"Well, this is an emergency, Sammy!" Dean snapped. "If we don't get there to stop a trigger happy hunter Eve could become a target!"
"Just make sure you two trade off sleeping and driving." said Bobby. "And be careful on the road. I need you here quick, not dead and not exhausted."
"As you command." said Dean sarcastically.
"Brat!" snapped Bobby as he hung up.
Trudging through the snow were five people. It was the four freed hostages, and Chester Lewis, with his rifle at hand. They were wasting no time in spilling the whereabouts of the Yeti in exchange for a safe trip to town. All seemed well, until the four found themselves alone in the frozen wilderness. After receiving the information, Chester disappeared. The four were frantic, and cold. Suddenly a figure appear before them.
"Do not despair." came the voice of Castiel. "Keep walking, and you'll reach your destination."
"Who are you?!" called one of the women as they ran to him, but when they reached where he was no one was there. They looked around stunned, yet followed the advice of the mystery man, and safely found their way to town.
Eve was going over what was left of the food in the firelight of the cave, when Cass appeared.
"I've guided the people to town." he stated to her. "As you prayed for."
"Thank you." she replied. "So would you answer all my prayers?" she asked jokingly. He blinked not knowing how to answer the question. Eve laughed. "I was kidding!"
"You're humor is strange, but I think I enjoy it." he replied. Eve kept laughing.
"You'll caught on someday." she said still smiling. "Maybe not in my life time, but someday." He sat down next to her.
"What do mean by that?" he said in his mono tone. Eve began to laugh again. "What?" Cass repeated. He could never figure her out, but he looked at her while she laughed. After a moment, she stopped laughing, but left a smile on her face as she looked into his eyes. He quickly looked away to the sleeping Yeti.
"Why do you do that?" she asked.
"Do what?" he replied.
"You always look away." she pointed out.
"I…" he began, but stopped to think about the answer. "I don't know." he replied. "Maybe because…" he stopped and thought again. "I must go!" he said. "I'm needed right away!" He disappeared instantly, leaving Eve dazed and confused. She couldn't help, but feel he just intentionally found a reason to get out of answering her question.
