Chapter 14
The conversation about me moving out ended swiftly after it was mentioned. Dad got up and left without a word and mom just shook her head,
"I don't think that's going to happen Phoebe. Now please let this drop before tonight, you know your grandma hates it when there's tension at her fundraisers."
I can feel full bitch mode coming on. Teddy is going to move in to his own apartment soon. There really is no difference. Well, apart from the fact that I'm not going to college and don't have a child…
That's irrelevant.
It shouldn't be one rule for one and not the other.
I stomped up the stairs and slammed my door to make a point. I hope dad heard, idiot.
I slumped on my bed with a sigh, wondering what to do with the rest of the day.
Luke still hadn't text me back.
Hmm I think I know something that will get his attention.
Ana's POV
Where has all this come from?
She has shown no interest to move out before, something isn't right.
Maybe she's feeling left out with Samantha's arrival so quickly after the accident. I really don't know to be honest, she has always been so sure in her decisions and actions but I just feel like this is rushed and has been put upon her.
I need to find Christian; he is probably going out his mind.
Phoebe POV
I hate these stupid fundraisers. They are full of stuck up snobby people who have more money than sense.
Saying that, if I had to choose a fundraiser to go to I would choose my Grandma's, they're always for a good cause and there is guaranteed to be some kind of drama.
All four of us are going tonight, which is now a rarity. Gail is looking after Sam so Teddy has his first night off in ages.
I was deciding between two of my dresses, my black Oscar de la Renta dress is my favourite. Floor length and backless, a type of class that I rarely get to show off. The other is a deep red Chanel dress, a halter dress that pulls me in at my waist and then flows down to the floor.
I go to call my mom up but then I know what she'll say. The red one, because dad will hate the black one. Hmm, decisions decisions.
I get a text and smile, this is the first I've heard from him since I decided to have a little fun.
Sender: Luke, 6:34pm
Phoebe, you do not understand what that did to me. You are going to your Grandma's fundraiser tonight I presume? I shall see you there with a little surprise. Don't be late. Be ready.
I noticed he had ignored the comment about us being 'official'. Well I suppose there was always enough time.
In the mean time I would make him think about it more than he would probably like.
Decision made, I'm wearing the black dress.
My Grandma always puts on a brilliant fundraiser; her back garden had been transformed into something from a movie. There was a giant marquee in the centre of the garden, with a red carpet and an arch of beautiful multi-coloured roses over the top of the entrance. This is usually where everything, dinner, dance, auctions etc happen.
If I thought the outside of the marquee was beautiful, Grandma had outdone herself with the inside. There was white sheets' draping from the ceiling to the side of the marquee with vines intertwining themselves around them. The round tables were draped with a purple cover and each with their own bouquet of flowers in the centre. Each chair had the matching vine effect of the drapes. It was breathtaking.
In the middle of the marquee was a dance floor, where I would no doubt be later on, with a band playing to the side.
She had really gone above and beyond with this fundraiser. It was close to her heart after all and she always does the best raisers for the best charities. This one specifically being for children born with drug dependency.
Checking my watch, I noted that I was dead on time. Hmm, Luke told me not to be late and I wasn't. Now where was he?
I felt a hand at the small of my back, my stomach turned and the butterflies began to re-surface. However, they soon went back into hibernation when I realised it was only my dad leading us to our table.
I'm guessing he was choosing to ignore my request to move out. Ignoring it like he always does. Nice try but I'm not dropping this one.
We were being stopped the whole way to our table by every Tom, Dick and Harry and the conversation was all the same.
This was my first 'public' appearance since mine and Grandma's accident and everyone was just dying to know how I was. Yeah right, they were more interested in my father and the extremely heavy bit of plastic he had in his back pocket.
But every conversation started the same. "How are you Phoebe?" "I hope everything is okay now." "It's so glad to see you out and about again." And then they would swiftly turn the conversation to my dad and his latest ventures. My que to completely switch off.
Dad would not release his hand from the small of my back. Every time I tried to excuse myself he would just keep me there. Pretty certain he was trying to cover up as much of my back as he could with his hand.
Of course, he couldn't have been more against me wearing the black dress and we argued about it all the way here.
You see, I know my father and I know exactly how to get away with wearing things like this, unlike mom who is covered almost completely.
I left it until the very last minute before I came hurtling down the stairs and got straight into the car. Not allowing him enough time to demand I changed. Of course he still did, but I was already in the car and buckled in, refusing to move. I won of course, and he sulked the whole way here.
We finally made it through the gauntlet of people and I had never been so happy to see my Grandma and Grandad.
"Phoebe darling! What a beautiful dress that is!" I turned my head and flashed my dad a smug grin to which my mom just rolled her eyes and laughed.
"Don't start with this conversation mom, Phoebe and I have argued about it enough in the car." If my father's jaw got any tighter then I think he would shatter it himself.
"Alright, sorry sweetheart." My Grandma replied, "but that dress is a show-stopper" she whispered into my ear.
I couldn't help but laugh. I knew tonight would be hard for her as well as me. The press had kindly released a story saying it was all Grandma's fault I was in hospital for so long and the crash was all her. Fuckers.
Tonight was the first night we had been seen out together and I saw she had made a point of putting me next to her on the table- opposite the glaring eyes of my father. Brill.
"How is that beautiful Great-Granddaughter of mine then Theodore?" as she began talking to Teddy my Granddad came my way.
"Are you okay sweetheart? I know tonight won't be easy for you."
"I'm okay thanks Grandad. Just wish people would stop mentioning it. I feel more bad for Grandma than anyone else."
"I know love, but she seems okay for now." I caught him looking over at her and the love he still holds for her was written all over his face.
"You're a soppy one you Grandad." I commented.
"Oh, only when it comes to my wife and my family." And as if they were listening the whole time the rest of the family decided to make an entrance, in true Aunt Mia style.
Becki was the first to come strolling through the archway, cursing under her breathe and I had to laugh. We were much more similar than I ever gave us credit for.
She had gone for a long white dress, which just so happened to have a massive slit up the side- going all the way to her hip. I presume she had the same problem as me on the way here.
She stomped over to the table followed by an angry looking Uncle Ethan.
"Thank God you are here girl." She directed at me followed by a hug. "And sorry we are embarrassingly late Grandma. Dad decided to through a strop in the car about my choice of dress."
I had to hold in a laugh. They were only about 15 minutes late and the fundraiser hadn't even began, she did have a way with words did Becki.
"That's fine Rebecca; we are just about to start. You're not late at all sweetie." Grandma gave her a kiss, followed by Granddad.
Whilst the adults repeated all their hello's she came and sat next to me, fixing her hair in a completely over-dramatic way.
"Anyone would have thought there was a World crisis the way he reacted. 'People are going to see indecent parts of you' he reckons. Yeah right, this dress may as well be glued to me it's so bloody tight." She dramatically claimed.
"Don't worry babe, I had the same problem." I replied attempting to make her feel a little better, "dad thought my dress being backless that it would 'entice' a certain type of male. Like I am going to at my own Grandma's fundraiser" I continued, but little did she know that was exactly what I was going to do.
"I know tell me about it, stupid fathers. I bet they're over there scheming now about what to do with us. Idiots. But hell girl your dress is beautiful! Hmm Oscar de la Renta I'm guessing?" she smiled.
"You are so good at this. Why don't you go into fashion? Major in fashion next year?" I suggested. She really was amazing. She had this creative mind and had a whole portfolio of dresses and clothing she had designed. If she didn't it really would be a talent completely wasted.
"Oh well, that's another argument for another day eh." She rolled her eyes just as my Grandma took to the microphone asking everyone to take the seats as dinner was about to be served.
It was at that moment I felt the hairs on the back on my neck rise up as if someone was watching me and before I had even turned around I knew exactly who it was.
He looked so smart in a simple three black piece suit with a tie. So sophisticated and ridiculously attractive.
He gave me his amazing half smile and nodded his head towards the toilets, signalling for me to follow.
"Excuse me for a minute, I just need to use the bathroom before dinner." I excused myself holding Becki's shoulder down- silently telling her not to follow.
As soon as Luke saw me get up he walked into the passageway leading to the toilets. I looked over my shoulder to check if anyone was watching me closely. For once, I was free to walk without the boring eyes of one of the Grey Males.
The closer I got the more nervous I was. He told me to 'be ready' but I had no idea what for.
I didn't have much time to contemplate it because before I knew it I was stood in front of him. Feeling a mixture of nervousness, awkwardness and excitement.
"You look breathtaking Phoebe." I could feel his eyes over every part of my body. It set my senses alight.
"Thank you, you don't look too bad yourself." I couldn't be bothered with this small talk. I needed to know what he had in store for me.
My silent wish was made into a reality when he pulled me into a dark corner and kissed me passionately.
"You have no idea what you did to me earlier; trying to seduce me is not the job of a submissive Phoebe. Especially when you were not with me and I was put in a very awkward situation. You want to play games? Ok then we will." The darkness in his eyes told me not to argue with him.
"This is a vibrating plate. You slide in between your underwear and your skin, and it won't move. I have the controls so I can decide when to turn it on and how intense the vibrations will be.
Don't worry; no-one can hear it. Only you can feel it. Depending on how you act for the rest of the night will determine how intense the vibrations will be. Now quickly, go and put it in place. Dinner is being served." And with that he walked out of the passage and back into the main part of the marquee.
He hadn't left me much choice. I rushed into the bathroom and brimming with excitement I quickly slid the plate in place. It felt cold against my skin but it quickly became bearable.
I couldn't believe I was doing this. I was going to be sat next to my Grandma with a vibrating plate in my underwear. Oh my. I smoothed my dress out and walked back into the central area wondering what the rest of the night would bring for me.
No-one asked why I had been that long. Well had I been long? It felt like I was gone forever but obviously not because the food had just arrived.
"Oh just in time sweetheart." My Grandma said patting the space next to her.
The started came. A sweet potato soup with a bread roll. I decided to take a pass on the roll- bread screamed bloated and I couldn't afford to become bloated in this dress.
The soup was nice, but I was constantly on edge. Wondering when he was going to turn the plate on.
I couldn't finish the rest of my soup and put my spoon down. the conversation flowed between everyone regarding work, each other, business- the boring stuff.
So my eyes began to wander, trying to find where Luke was sat. As my eyes were scanning the room I turned in my chair and my I caught eye contact with him and the plate vibrated against my skin.
It wasn't as violent as I expected. But it was much more pleasurable than I ever thought. It vibrated right through my skin and I could feel myself growing aroused. One small vibration was doing this to me already- it was going to be a long night.
I looked at him again to let him know I felt it and another vibration came, a lot harder than the last one and lasting longer.
Oh he wanted to play it like this did he? Not allowing me to look at him. Well that was going to be a lot easier than he thought. Why wasn't he wearing something like this because I could feel his eyes boring into the back of my head for most of the night.
When I never finished my main course of salmon in a rich tartar sauce, the second my cutlery was placed on my plate a long calm vibration was thrusted upon me, silently telling me to finish my food. I shook my head and the intensity got harder.
I thought I was about to explode before the vibrations abruptly stopped. Fucking tease.
I quickly picked up my knife and fork and finished my dinner. A short sharp vibration hit me, thanking me.
I wasn't going to be caught out again by the time dessert came so I finished it all and the second my spoon was placed on the plate another short sharp vibration hit me.
By this point I was so highly aroused that a touch from him would have sent me over the edge. If only I could look at him. Just one look.
I turned and tried to slyly look his way but before I could even make eye contact the plate started up again- this time it was average intensity but didn't stop for a long while.
My Grandma got up and made a speech on how the charity was close to her heart and how much she appreciated everyone's kind donations already.
The whole way through the plate continued to vibrate. I tried my hardest to focus on something else but it was impossible. Everything in me was on high alert. How on Earth had a little plate like this caused my whole body to go on edge?
Next up was the auctions. I hated this part, I was always dragged into it much to my fathers dismay.
I was only ever allowed to partake in the ones where they would be betting for a dance not a date. Even my Grandma wouldn't allow Becki or I to be part of that.
Becki was first up and as soon as she got onto the stage the vibrations stopped. Thank God for that.
Of course Uncle Ethan put in the first bid. And a high reasonable bid as well.
"$1000!" He shouted from the table. Everyone in the room laughed as Becki sighed in frustration.
"$2000!" An anonymous voice called from the back of the marquee. Becki looked extremely smug. Oh God, this was going to turn into a bidding war that Uncle Ethan would not loose.
It got all the way up to $20,000 before the man at the back had to pull out of the bidding. A round of applause followed Becki as she slumped back in her seat.
If looks could kill, then I am pretty certain Uncle Ethan would have been on the floor with no pulse.
Mom was up next and of course dad straight away put in a ridiculous bid of $100,000 which no-one topped and even if they wanted to the wrath of my Christian Grey prevented them.
That's until I heard,
"$150,000!" This seemed to be an ongoing joke between John Flynn and dad. Apparently before mom even knew John he used to bid on her. He was the only man dad would let bid against him for mom.
But of course not wanting to be outdone dad went straight in with $500,000 which ignited a massive round of applause from the audience and Flynn put his hands up in defeat.
Mom was laughing as she sat back down giving dad a kiss. Another lady came up getting a good $10,000 and another one got $5000. And then it was my turn. Shit.
I hated this because dad would obviously win with a ridiculously high bid. There was really no point.
I felt my plate vibrate calmly and I knew he was watching my every move.
Of course Dad started off with $10,000 and I knew no-one else would bother topping that.
Until Teddy decided he wanted to join in the fun as well,
"$15,000!" He shouted, dad gave him a warm joking smile and went to $20,000
"$50,000!" a man shouted from the left side of the marquee. The vibration plate went up in intensity. I was praying Luke was going to bid for me but I seriously doubt he was going to have more than $50,000 to spend on me.
Dad looked furious. I had to laugh, it was funny seeing him so stressed out.
"$70,000!" shouted Teddy. What on Earth was he playing at?! I was going to kill him.
"$100,000!" came the exact mouth I wanted it too. I gave a pleading look at Teddy for him not to continue with the bidding. Just as dad was about to shout a higher number Grandma jumped up and claimed Luke the winner of the bidding war.
The vibrations stopped and I thought dad was going to explode.
The room was buzzing with conversation. The Grey family had just lost out on a bidding war to an 18 year old. This had never happened before.
Grandma quickly introduced the next woman and I sat down nervously. Becki, mom and Aunt Mia were grinning from ear to ear. The males on the table however were not impressed.
Anyone would have thought they had just sold me for good.
"It's only a dance guys. Jheeze, you'll be watching me the whole time no doubt."
This didn't help settle my dad's nerves and his fists just went into tighter balls on the table. Oh well, suck it up dad.
The auction finished and I had lost count of the amount of money raised- all I knew was that it was a lot.
The time had come for the 'dance' to take place where the winners danced with their 'prize'. Luke came over to the table and took my hand escorting me to the dance floor.
Dad made sure that he and mom were dancing almost next to us. Becki did not look impressed to be dancing with her dad and was more intent on watching who had won me.
When she realised who it was she just laughed and began talking to Uncle Ethan- well no doubt probably having a go at him for winning her.
"You still look as beautiful as you did at the beginning of the night." Luke whispered in my ear. "A little bit more flushed though, why is that?"
Oh he wanted to play this game did he? The plate hadn't vibrated for a while and my senses were beginning to return to me.
"I really don't know" I replied knowing he couldn't turn it on now, "it is a little warm in here."
"No it's not, there's a lovely breeze coming from the river."
"Oh, well it must just be me then. My mind has been all over the place tonight. Thanks to you."
I could feel him smiling. He was far too smug.
"So did you enjoy it then? Was all of your body on fire? One touch from me would have sent you over the edge? You're lucky I didn't come over- to see you slowly become more flustered turned me on more than you can imagine.
"Well imagine how I felt, not even being able to look at you. Is this what it will always feel like?" I couldn't help but ask.
"Yes Phoebe, it can be so much more intense as well. This is supposed to be enjoyable for you Phoebe. Don't believe everything you read." In that moment I trusted his words more than anything and I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
"I'm 100% certain now Luke. I want to do this." The smile on his face said it all. I could tell he was stopping himself from kissing me and I wondered why. Then I realised where we were and I knew dad would cause a scene.
Our beautiful moment was interrupted by a screeching.
"You bitch!" everyone turned to see where the noise was coming from and I just saw my mom's face turn pale white and dad's went red with rage.
"You stole my Grandchild from me!" she was pointing at mom. At this point Teddy and I had flanked either side of her and dad was walking straight towards this crazy bitch.
"And you! Couldn't keep your dick in your pants and got my daughter knocked up! Now you get to keep my Grandchild so she's gonna' be fucked up like all you lot."
Now I knew who she was. Sky's mom I was guessing. Oh hell no if she thinks she's going to do this here. Not on my watch.
"Oh yeah, well if your daughter hadn't opened her legs then we wouldn't be in this problem would we?" I caught up with dad and stopped him, I was going to deal with this bitch.
"It wasn't her fault. She was wrongly seduced. No-one trust these people. They are evil." Her long scraggly fingers were pointing to us all.
"Oh excuse us. We can give that beautiful little girl all she wants in life. Your own daughter didn't even want her. She was happy to hand her over to us, she didn't even consult you did she?" I was walking towards her now- she had thoroughly pissed me off.
"No you didn't give her a chance! You stole the child as soon as you could!" now she was hysterically shouting. How did this crazy bitch even get in here?! I could feel dad following me just in case something was to kick off and his presence urged me on.
"You are embarrassing yourself. Sky gave the child up when she was pregnant. She didn't want it, didn't want to bring it into the life you had given her," I was right in front of her face now, "and I don't blame her."
She went to reply but I stopped her before she even could. My rage taking over.
"So how dare you come in here, ruin our evening and shout slanderous things about my family. You need to take a good hard look in the mirror. Samantha is better off with us than she ever will be with you. Now I suggest you leave before I remove your sorry arse myself."
"This does not end here." She quietly said, aimed directly so dad and I could only hear.
"I truly hope it doesn't. Then we can reveal you for the person you really are. Now get out."
"You heard her," my father said, now standing beside me, "leave."
She huffed and turned around stomping out like a child.
"Are you ok?" My father asked, pulling me into a hug.
"Yeah just pissed off. How dare she do that! How did she even get in here!"
"Well I'm going to find out now don't you worry." He went to walk off before I grabbed his arm.
"Dad, I think mom needs you more right now." He turned and looked at mom who was still stood in the same spot with tears running down her cheeks.
Teddy looked in shock and I knew he needed me now more than anything.
I headed over there with dad and he grabbed mom into a hug as Grandma was telling everyone that the night was to carry on as normal and apologising for that 'interlude'.
I grabbed Teddy into a cuddle.
"Are you ok Ted?" I asked, the poor man looked like he'd seen a ghost.
"Yeah. Thank you so much for that Phoebe. I just froze- I didn't know what to do."
"Oh don't Ted. How dare she mess with the Grey's. Not on my watch."
"Thank you still. You were fierce girl!" we both started laughing which released the tension a little.
"I think I'm going to head back though. Just to make sure Sam is ok."
"Of course Ted, I'll see you later and make your excuses for you."
"Thank you so much Feebs. You're one in a million," he said whilst cuddling me goodbye. He made a swift exit. Worried about Sam and to be honest I don't blame him.
I just looked at Luke who looked shell-shocked. I couldn't help but laugh at the expression on his face.
"Well that was a whole new you I saw." He said as I walked towards him.
"That's the side that comes out when my family are involved. It's my true 'inner-grey'." We laughed softly.
He lent in to my ear and whispered "Well it was hot. I loved it." and just like that my anger washed away.
The night carried on as normal, with dad, Uncle Ethan and Granddad making investigations into how on Earth she got past security in the first place.
The women were all with mom, comforting her. She needed to just get on with the night and forget about that stupid bitch.
I don't know why she expects any less; there's always a drama when the Grey's are involved.
