Chapter 14: The Waiting Game
RPOV
Monday 7:25 PM
Waiting . . . I was getting tired of waiting. My hands have been itching with anticipation since I arrived. My eyes wandered to the building I was staking out. Where was she? I glared at my watch for the tenth time in the last ten minutes. Where the hell was she! A shot of pain went straight to my head. This pain in my head has been happening for the last two days. I didn't know where it came from but it was annoying the shit out of me.
I rubbed my tensed temples but it didn't make the pain go away. I groaned in frustration. This was all her fault! It was her fault that I had this pain. It was her fault that I've been going out of my mind. It was her fault that I was so desperate to have her. Another pain shot through me but this time it was in my chest.
"Damn it." I hissed as I clutched desperately at my chest.
I've been having these aches in my chest since this passed Friday night. Soon after the chest pain, the throbbing in my head came. I would never forget that night. It was the night when the pain started but it was also the night I found my true calling. I had a purpose in life. A purpose that would make my family and other families proud. Memories of Friday night plagued my mind once again. I sometimes find myself smiling now and then thinking about it.
On Friday night my wife asked me to buy some milk from the grocery store after work. I went to the store brought the milk and a six pack of beer. I paid for my items and I was out the door in no time. I was driving listening to some tunes, minding my business, until I passed the vampire bar that everyone was raving about. Fangtasia.
"Vampires . . ." I growled.
They were the devil's spawn. They didn't belong with the living. They deserved to be damned! All likes of them! It makes me sick that we the humans, the higher species, have to cozy up to a bunch of fangers. What was our government thinking? They suck our blood, stalk us at night. Our children were no longer safe. No one was safe with those fangers walking around. Now, there were people wanting these filthy creatures to touch them, to feed from them. Anyone that associates themselves with them should be damned in the deepest pits of hell with those fangers!
As I passed the bar, something or someone I should say, caught my attention. It was Allura Gracie getting out of her car. I couldn't comprehend why would Chase's sister be hanging at a vampire bar. I kept looking and noticed a female vamper with blond hair saw Allura coming towards her. What I saw next made my blood freeze over.
The female fanger wrapped her pale dead arms around her and kissed her cheek. Allura was a fangbanger?! She was one of those soul-less fangbanging whores. I wondered if Chase knew about his sister's night activities. Of course he knew! No wonder he was acting funny at work for the past month. He was a male fangbanger!
I drove home fast and dropped off the milk to my wife and her kids. I acted normal for their sake and ate dinner with my family. I was calm and laughing on the outside but in the inside I was pissed from what I saw moments ago. I wanted to go back to the vampire bar and wait for Allura, but I couldn't do it while everyone was awake. So I decided to wait for them to go to sleep.
When Arlene and the kids were finally asleep, I hurriedly got dressed and drove to the vampire bar. When I pulled up across the street from bar, I caught Chase getting into his pickup. I watched him drive down the road on his way home. I pounded and thrashed around in my car. How could he do this?! He was supposed to be my friend. He was my best man at my wedding! I thought he was one of the good ones but then I understood. I understood Chase was always my enemy from the start and his sister was too.
An hour passed when the door opened again to the vampire bar. The blond fanger woman from before came out with a tall looking vamper. They looked like they was arguing but they got into a car and drove off. When they left a thought came to me. A grin spread across my face as the plan unfolded in my head. It would work.
I pulled my black hood over my head and pulled down my bucket hat. I quickly got out the car and walked across the street. I looked up and down the road making sure no cars were coming. When I made it to the car, I opened Allura's hood. A slight chill went up my spine and it made me lock in place. I dismissed the feeling and carried on with my mission but stopped when I felt someone's hands on me. I whipped my head around to see if someone was there. It was no one.
I turned back to the trunk but I couldn't shake the odd feeling. I swore someone touched me. I tossed the thought from my mind and snatched the ignition coils from the engine. I stuffed them in my jacket pocket. I smiled at my handy work. She would have no where to go. When Allura figures that out, It would be already too late. I would grab her and drag her in the woods and end her miserable fangbanging life. I laughed heartily but stopped abruptly when I felt someone's eyes on me. For the second time I turned around to see if someone was there.
I turned to the tree line where I felt the feeling wash over me. I slowly walked to the middle of the street straining my eyes to see passed the trees. A shuffle of leaves made my heart jump to my throat. Before I could fully recover I heard the door open behind me. Without thinking I ran to the trees where the weird feeling was coming from.
I stooped behind the trunk to see who was coming out. I thanked my lucky stars. It was Allura coming out of satan's bar. Her whole attire had changed from casual wear to wearing a tight fitting slutty dress and hooker heels. That whore! I couldn't wait to strangle her. I rubbed my hands together with glee but my glee was short lived. Someone came out after Allura. I didn't know who this stranger was nor did I ever see him around these parts, but it didn't matter. He was in the vamper bar, he was the enemy, my soul-less enemy, just like Allura and her dimwitted brother.
I watched them head over to Allura's car. Allura looked at her car for a moment before she lifted up her trunk. I was shocked. How did she know something was wrong with her car? Even now I couldn't figure it out. The male said something to her and went around the back of the building. This was my chance.
I stood up from my kneeling position and made my way forward to my target. I remembered how much I was salivating at the thought of my huge wrapping around her slim neck. I didn't know what I was going to do about the male. I would have to whing, but I wasn't really worrying about him. My eyes were on the prize and Allura Gracie was the prize. When my foot stepped out of the tree line, Allura snapped her head up. I backed away from her slight. She wasn't looking at me but around her, probably looking for the male fangbanger.
She moved from her car and began to walk to the front but she stopped. She turned in my direction trying to peer into the trees. I moved farther back against another tree so she didn't see me. I watched her take careful steps to the curb looking at the tree line. She stopped by the curb and her face scrunched up in confusion. Confusion then contorted into pure horror. I didn't know if she seen me or not but I was panicking.
I watched her face closely. Come to find out she wasn't looking directly in my direction, but somewhere beside where I standing. I turned to the side but I didn't see anything. I turned back to her face. She was terrified and was backing away from the street. As Allura stepped away, a piercing scream broke from her lips. She was turned around by the male fangbanger. I didn't know where he came from but he was there.
I watched them converse for a bit then mop top pulled Allura to leave. I cracked a smile. They had nowhere to go. It was time for me to make my move. I stepped out from the trees when their backs were to me. I walked briskly across the street. I could still feel the excitement I felt that night. I couldn't wait to have her. The weird feeling that someone was watching me came again but I ignored it, I had to think of a way to get mop top out the way.
When I arrived by the side of her car, I noticed a lead pole against the wall. I picked it up feeling its weight. A plan formed in my mind. I would bash the fangbanging male's head in then I would take care of Allura. I walked with confidence whilst thinking of things I was going to do to Allura. I knew for a fact my idea would work. When I reached the corner where Allura and the male fangbanger were at, I stayed behind the dumpster waiting for the right moment. They had their backs to me talking. I was close enough to hear them, and it was pure nonsense. It was something about jumping to her house.
I ignored them and went in for the kill. As I came from around the corner another feeling came upon me. It wasn't the eerie feeling from before, no this was different. Whatever it was, it was tingling on my skin. I didn't like it. I looked up to see what Allura and the fangbanger was doing. What I saw scared me half to death. Allura and the male took one step and they disappeared in thin air.
The lead pipe slipped from my hand as I watched them disappear from my sight. When they were gone, I took hesitant steps towards the spot they magically vanished from. The closer I walked to the spot they left, the hotter I got. I stood in front of the empty space and could feel the blazing heat on my face. I was sweating and my clothes were sticking to my body. I stuck my hand out where the two left but flinched back. I looked down at my burning hand and noticed blisters. I let out a string of curses while holding my injured hand to my chest.
I walked back to my car but I didn't drive off just yet. I was trying to figure out what I've saw. I looked at my badly blistered hand and shook involuntarily. I had no clue what to make of what happened to me. I watched two people disappear in front of my very eyes. Every time I thought about I wanted to either laugh or strangle myself.
I knew they weren't vampires. I could see warmth on their skin. Thoughts of what they could be plagued my mind. It took me awhile to figure it out but I had it. Hot damn it, I had it. They were some sort of demonic creatures. It was the only reasonable explanation. From what I saw and from the whispers and rumors I heard when I walked in this bat crazy town confirmed my suspicions.
I heard some things about the Gracie children when I first came to Bon Temps. I knew their mother was crazy and was sent to an asylum leaving her children behind. I felt bad for them but the people of Bon Temps weren't. For some reason they were scared of the Gracie children as if they were cursed. I heard from Jane Bodehouse, Bon Temps drunk, that no one wanted to go near them when they were children.
She told me some people thought their mother, Ellis Gracie, was a nut while others thought she was possessed by some demon spirit. Somehow the spirit entered into her kids when their mother was carried away in the crazy van. I thought Bodehouse was crazy, she was drunk nine in the morning for goodness sake! Why would I believe her? But other people around the bar said the same thing about Ellis Gracie and the Gracie children. All but one left Bon Temps. Even though it was one Gracie child, they were still caution around him. I seen it with my two eyes when Chase Gracie entered Merlotte's. The fear they had in their eyes, like he was about to grow horns and smite them all.
Personally I didn't see anything wrong with him. I thought he was a regular guy, but it was strange to see people part like the red sea when he entered in Merlotte's. He was totally oblivious to it. He just smiled and talked with Hoyt and Jason. I decided to get to know him and we hit it off well. He was my best friend, my comrade in arms but then . . . seeing what I saw Friday night, his whole image I once knew disappeared the second I saw him leave Fangtasia. He was a demon child just like his sister. He had to be. If there was one bad seed, it had to be more.
It was then in the car I knew I had to end them. I knew what they were doing. I knew there plan. They were cooking a plan with the vampers to take the humans out, one by one. It was fucking Armageddon. I had to get rid of them. But how would I do it? I asked myself. I never dealt with this kind of situation before. I never killed a supernatural. All I ever killed were fangbanging women.
First, it was my no good sister. I was so disappointed in her. Sleeping with those leeches. Disgusting! She disgraced our family's name. I had to kill her. Then it was Dana Maulberry. I never liked her. She was a snob and she didn't give me a time of day when I wanted to take her out. I was walking out of a bar up Monroe one night and seen her in the ally with a vampire banging her against wall. I was heated. She wouldn't sleep with me but she would let a dead thing slip inside her?! She had to go. Then it was that slut Maudette Pickens. I killed her for the simple fact she was a annoying, the fangbanger part came second, Dawn too. I didn't expect the police to pin it on Jason but I didn't care, as long as it wasn't me.
Sookie was supposed to be my next victim the day of the Glorious Dead meeting. I waited in her kitchen quietly. When I heard footsteps I attacked. Instead of stabbing Sookie, I stabbed her fang loving grandmother, Adele. I was pissed at my stupidity but I got over it. Adele was a fang lover, so it worked in my favor. I had to kill her anyway. She saw my face. She was an unexpected one but I made sure there wasn't any evidence that would lead back to me. I would get Sookie, but first I had to take care of Allura and her treacherous brother.
I kept trying to think of a plan but nothing came to me. I knew stores didn't sell anything for . . . whatever they were, like they had for vampires. I had to be smart about it and I needed to be quick. It needed to be an in and out job, but I didn't know if it could be that easy like the other times. I was getting nowhere and it was pissing me off. Just when I was about to drive home, I cried out in pain when I felt something bite me.
I looked down at my hand and seen a black spider crawling away from me. I grabbed my newspaper and rolled it up ready to kill it. In mid-swing my movement stopped. An idea came to me. I knew how to get rid of them. A satisfying smile spread across my lips as the plan played over and over in my head. Yes, I knew what to do and I would start with that demon whore, Allura.
I drove home that night happier than a fat kid with cake. Looking back on that night brought another smile to my face. My smile quickly fell when the pain in my chest came back full force. I never knew what this pain was until Sunday morning when I saw Allura and her brother with mop top at Merlotte's at breakfast time. It was a pain of desperation.
It was a desperate ache to have her . . . to bend and twist her at my will. My hands were shaking just thinking about it. I couldn't stand the thought of condoning to something so disgusting . . . so sick! I needed to put an end to it. I was going to wait for the right opportunity to do it . . . but I wanted, no, I needed to do this as soon as possible.
I couldn't wait. I have to do it! It was the only way to stop this twist in my gut, this stabbing in my back, this brain raking in my head. It was literally driving me insane. My mind were consumed with thoughts of me killing Allura. It was instinct to do it. I never felt anything like it but I liked, no, I loved the feeling. I craved to see her end, hers and Sookie's.
My hands continues to shake thinking about her. I couldn't even stand being home when I knew she was out there with them. That was why I made myself get in my car and wait for her outside the vampire bar for the last two days. Saturday, she wasn't there. Sunday, she wasn't there either. I knew she would be here today, she had to be. If she didn't . . . then I would be forced to take necessary action. Either way she was going to be dead by my hands.
I took a shaky breath waiting for my target. What if I was wrong? My hands tighten around the steering wheel. What if she doesn't show?! I felt the black rubber on the steering wheel collecting my sweat making it slick to the touch, but that didn't slack my firm grip. She has to, she has to come! I have to take her tonight. If it didn't I'd lose my fucking mind.
Two lights shine brightly on the wet slick concrete. I lowered myself in the car hiding my form from prying eyes. My eyes peeked over the wheel looking at a yellow buggy. Was that Sookie's car? Sure' nuff it was her. I watched the blond haired leech lover waitress get out her car. This was too good to be true! Not only would I get Allura, I would get Sookie tonight as well. My excitement peeked but deflated lickety-split when I seen the Civil War vampire get out the car and walked hand and hand with Sookie. Bill, I think it was.
"Shit!" I hissed lowly. There was no way I could get Sookie tonight.
I looked down at my watch, and it read seven thirty-five. I looked down the road to see if another car was coming but there were none. Another shot of pain in my head had me banging against my windshield. What was happening to me?! I rubbed my face trying to calm myself. I needed to relax. Tonight was the night I get my prize . . . if she shows up.
A buzz came from pocket. I pulled it out and seen Arlene's name shine brightly on my phone. Despite the pain and anger I was feeling, I smiled at her name. I loved my wife and I loved her kids. My family were the only good thing in my life. They were so pure, so sweet. They wouldn't dare associate themselves with vampers or demon spawns. They were my angels. I was doing this for them. I was getting rid of the evil that plagued our streets. I was making Bon Temps a better place for my family.
I answered my phone and sighed when I heard my red headed lady's voice. "Rene? Where are you hun?"
"I'm just hanging out with the boys down Red Ditch. We're at the bar drinking some beer."
"How come I don't anything in the background?" she asked.
Well I sure didn't think of that one. "Uh, I went outside when I seen your name on the caller ID. So what's going on? Is there something wrong? Is something wrong with the children?" I asked worriedly about my little angels.
"No, it's nothing wrong, I was just . . ." Arlene paused.
"You were just what?" I asked carefully.
"It just . . . hun you've been acting strange for the last couple of days. You haven't been eating with me and the kids. All you do is come home from work and lock yourself in the room. You've been leaving late at night after I go to sleep and come back two or three o'clock in the morning." she tries to steady her rigid breath. "Are you . . . are you cheating on me? Because if you are cheating, I rather you tell me instead of doing it behind me back." A sob came from the phone and it broke my heart.
"Chere, listen to me." I waited until she was done crying. "I am not cheating on you, okay? I've been going through some . . . things."
"What things Rene? What's going on baby? Whatever it is I'm sure we could work it out together."
I never though of that. Maybe Arlene could accompany in night activities. No sooner the thought entered my mind, I turned it down. The idea of Arlene killing someone didn't sit right with me. Whether it was a vampire, demon spawn, or even a fangbanger, I couldn't let her do it. My heart felt heavy thinking about it. No! My woman would stay pure and let me do the dirty work.
"Baby you're scaring me." My wife whispered to me.
"Chere this is something I have to do on my own. Don't worry about me. I'll be okay." I opened the dashboard and pulled out a pamphlet I've been reading for a couple of days. "Arlene . . ."
"Yes?"
"What do you say about moving out of Bon Temps." I opened the pamphlet looking at the huge white building.
"Move? Move where?" Arlene asked in a frightened voice.
"How about moving to . . . Dallas, Texas?" My eyes fell back on the Fellowship of the Sun pamphlet again.
My family needed a change of scenery and Dallas was exactly where the new change was going to start. The FoTS church was exactly where my family and I should be attending. The church was right out side of Dallas, but we would commute to every service. I never even heard of the church until an elderly lady by the library was passing out pamphlets to the church. Now I wasn't a churchy person but when I read about the Soldiers of the Sun, S.O.S., mission to save the Human Race and bringing down the destruction of the vampire race, I was sold.
Saving the Human Race was exactly what I was doing. One by one I was eradicating the evil from this world. I never knew what it was called until I seen the light, the light of the Fellowship of the Sun. I was doing God's work getting rid of this evil that haunts our world. It was like I was already a S.O.S. member but without the admission. When we moved to Dallas I would be a Soldier of the Sun. Soon as my family and I leave Bon Temps I was going to sign up.
"Rene, are you listening to me?" Arlene screamed through the phone.
I almost forgot she was on the phone. "Sorry Chere, I was thinking about something. What were you sayin'?"
"I said I have a job here in Bon Temps, we couldn't possibly leave. The kids also go to school and have friends here too. I can't just up and move without notice."
"I'm giving you notice now Chere." I rolled my eyes. It seemed like I have to work harder to persuade my lovely wife. "Come on, you always said to me you wanted to leave this town and live some place new. Meet new people and take in the sights."
" . . . I did say that, didn't I?" she laughed bashfully.
"Yes you did. So what do you say? Let's do it. Start a new life. Meet new people. Have a picket fence with a dog named Fido." That gotten a laugh out of her. "Come on, what do you say Chere?"
"I don't know Rene . . ."
"Chere . . ." I spoke deeply in the voice I knew she loved. I heard her gasp. I knew I had her now. "Do this for me. Do this for the kids. Let's be happy."
She was silent for awhile. I started to think it was a lost cause but then she spoke again. "Okay! Let's do it."
I pumped my fist in the air. I knew I could count on my red headed lady. "You won't regret this Chere."
"I know Rene. I trust you baby." She let out a gleeful laugh. "We're moving to Dallas!" I laughed at her excitement. This was a joyous moment for us. A mark on our new life together. "When are we moving?"
"Remember when I said I have to take care of some things?"
"Yes . . ."
"After I'm done we can go. It won't take me long. We can start packing tomorrow and start looking for available houses in Dallas."
"Wow . . . we're really doing this?" Arlene said in a non believing tone.
"You better believe it baby." I said while looking out the windshield.
A flash of headlights were coming up ahead. I leaned down like I did before so I wouldn't be seen. A familiar red pickup came into view. My heart leaped for joy. It was her! She was here.
"Rene I can't wait to start a new chapter in our lives. Me and the kids were so lost but then you showed up with your charm and your unconditional love, we've been happy ever since. I love you so much baby. I'm one of the lucky ones." Arlene cooed in my ear.
I watched Allura exit out the pickup with mop top. What was he her shadow? Or maybe he was her mate. My heart dropped. They're going to have demon babies! My thoughts became very dark but my red headed lady's words calmed me down. She loved me. I started to be in a happy mood again. My smile grew at what lied before me and my red headed lady's confession. "I love you too Chere. I have to go now."
"Okay. Hurry home baby, I miss you. Plus . . . I want to celebrate." Arlene said in her sexy voice.
I growled teasingly making my red headed lady laugh. "I'll be home soon Arlene. You just get yourself dolled up and into something nice for me to look at."
I heard Arlene's intake of breath. "I can finally open my nurse outfit that I brought from Kat's Treasure Trove. We can also use the whip if you want." She says lowly.
I raised my eyebrow. This night was turning out to be the best night of my life. Who says Monday was a shitty weekday? Not I. "Don't forget the handcuff, whip cream, and red bull." I held my cellphone between my cheek and shoulder while getting the tools I needed for tonight.
"Okay baby. I'll see you when you get home." Arlene says sweetly.
I told her I loved her and I would call her when I was on my way home. I hung up the phone and threw it in the back seat. I looked at the items on the passenger seat and mentally checked if I missed anything. When I seen I had everything I needed I looked back to the vampire bar. I let out a deep sigh of relief. I watched my breath fog up the window. As it was disappearing I seen something that made me jump out of my skin. The familiar chill ran up my spine. I turned to the opposite window on the passenger side. I peered out at the tree line seeing nothing. Maybe it was my imagination.
There was no way I could have seen those eyes. If I did, who eyes were they? Whoever they were, they weren't regular eyes. They were sickly yellow and they glowed dangerously. I turned back to my side of the window waiting for the glowing eyes to come back, but they never did. I relaxed against my leather seat. I needed to get myself together. Something from the corner of my eye caught my attention. Without hesitation I picked up the newspaper and attacked.
I smashed at the intruder a few times until I was satisfied. I lifted the newspaper and looked down at the leather seat beside me. Smashed on my leather green seat was a black spider. It couldn't be the same spider from Friday night. Could it eight legged fur ball stayed hidden for two full days? Another chill graze my spine snapping my back straight. I looked around me but still didn't see anything. I slammed myself back in my seat. I took off my bucket hat and wiped the sweat off my forehead. This was ridiculous! I was getting paranoid for no reason. I've done this before, this shouldn't be any different.
I looked back down at the Fellowship of the Sun pamphlet on my lap and grinned. "Dallas, Texas here we come."
Finish line. So Rene was there the night Alastair met Allura and sabotaged her She-Devil and seen the two jump to Allura's house. Buuuuuut . . . if Rene was there . . . wouldn't Alastair being a demon with a super smelling nose would have smelled Rene? What are Rene's plans for Allura? And who does those yellow eyes belong to? Hmmmm . . . So many questions :)
Chapter 15: Allura's Sunday morning and Part One of Monday night at Fangtasia
