I toss my phone to my parents and look back at Karen. I don't know what I'm supposed to do….I have to try and stop the bleeding. I rip off my shirt and tear it in half. I wrap the halves tightly around her wrists. It helps to slow it down, but the blood is still seeping through. "NO NO NO NO NO!" My mom comes in with two small towels and helps me wrap the wrists tighter. "We need more!" I say to my mom.

"It's all we have…." She says.

"NO! Karen, you have to live! You have to fight! Come on Karen!" I hug her tightly as tears stream down my face. The ambulance along with some cop cars show up. A medical team rushes in and puts Karen up on a gurney before rushing out the door. I grab a new shirt and follow quickly behind them. They let me ride in the ambulance with her and my parents follow in a police car. The nurses take off the towels and wrap her wrists with actual bandages.

"Her heart stopped!" Says one of the nurses.

"WHAT? KAREN!" I try to run over to her but a nurse butts in.

"I'm sorry kid, you have to give us space if you want her to live." They get her heart beating again and the ambulance makes it to the hospital. Karen is rushed to the emergency room so the doctors can stop the bleeding and stitch up the wounds. I'm not allowed in so I sit with my parents silently in the waiting room. Kevin said he'd stay home and clean up the mess….

"Oh here, Kenny, your phone." My dad hands me the phone.

"Oh thanks." I say and turn it on. It reads four missed calls from Katy. Well I guess I should call her back. I stand up and go to the corner of the waiting room where it is the quietest and call Katy's phone.

"Kenny? Oh thank god, what happened?" She answers.

"You were right, Karen tried to kill herself."

"Tried? What happened."

"She slit her wrists, but I got there in time so we could call an ambulance and now she's in the emergency room."

"Is she going to be okay?"

"I don't know, they won't let me in. Are you on your way to the hospital? I thought I would meet you at the house."

"Oh well that's why I called you four times afterwards. You see, I kinda...fell."

"Fell?"

"Yeah and I fucked up my knee pretty bad. I can't really walk, at all. I've been sitting here for like two hours and for some reason NO ONE has walked by and-"

"Katy! Why didn't you call an ambulance if you had your phone the whole time."

"I was afraid they would call my mom."

"Ugh, Katy…."

"I know you're kinda busy at the moment but I've lost a lot of blood….."

"O-Okay! Where are you, I'll go find you."

"I'm about three blocks past the elementary school on the way to your house."

"Okay I'll be there as quickly as I can, hold on." I hang up and walk back over to my parents. "I'm sorry, I have to pick Katy up and bring her here, she hurt her knee."

"Who's Katy?" Says my dad. My mom slaps him upside the head.

"His girlfriend, dumb ass, and how are you going to pick her up, Ken, you don't have a car."

"I can take a cab home and then drive dad's truck to where she his."

"Hold on now, you don't have a license." Says my dad. My god, the ONE time they actually care.

"Then go with him if you're really that concerned, for once." Says mom.

"Alright fine, go, but try to hurry back. And don't get yourself killed!" He says and I smile.

"I'll try, but no promises." I kiss my mom on the cheek and walk outside to call a cab. I feel like that joke might not of been very funny considering our current situation, but come on, they walked into that one. The cab shows up and I am driven to the house. I need to go inside to fetch the keys and I remember Kevin is still here. I go to Karen's room and see Kevin mopping up the blood.

"Why didn't you come to the hospital?" I ask.

"Someone needed to clean up the mess. And I didn't want to see Karen like that."

"Why do you care? You've never cared about Karen."

"I know!" He snaps. "She tried to commit suicide and I feel like it's my fault since I never cared." Oh my god is he seriously doing this. I pinch the bridge of my nose and sigh like Stan does.

"Don't make this about you. Your little sister tried to kill herself and you can't help but think about yourself! You always do this Kevin! Stop thinking about yourself for once and go visit your sister in the hospital!"

"Okay fine, but I need a ride there."

"I'll tell you what. I got dad to agree to lend me the truck. If you drive me somewhere to pick up my girlfriend first, since you have a license, you can drive to the hospital with me."

"You got dad to agree to lend you the truck?"

"He was in a weak moment, now come on!" Kevin grabs the keys from the kitchen and we go to the truck, our piece of shit of a truck. It's rusted all to hell and the entire windshield is missing so driving on highways is an issue. All together I say this truck is worth about twenty dollars. I tell Kevin to drive slowly towards the elementary school and I keep an eye out for Kat, especially since it's getting dark.

"She said she was about three blocks from the school so it won't be far." I say. Kevin grunts in a response obviously annoyed by the whole situation. "There she is! Stop the truck." I say spotting Katy. Kevin pulls over and I get out of the truck and make my way towards Katy. She's sitting and leaning against a building behind her. Her left knee is bent and she's holding it with both hands.

"Kenny!" She sounds happy but weak. As I get closer I realize her knee is covered with blood.

"Katy! What happened?"

"I was walking...running! I was running and…..chasing Karen. I fell and hit my knee and blood…." Her skin is pale and she sounds like she's about to pass out, probably from loss of blood.

"Katy I'm taking you to the hospital." I say.

"NO! No you can't! My mom...she...she can't find out!"

"Alright just try to relax, let me look at it." She removes her hands, rolls up her torn pant leg, and I get a good look at the knee. Most of the skin on her knee is gone and the skin that isn't is badly bruised. The knee cap itself looks out of place. "Did you hear a popping sound when you fell?" I ask.

"I think so….yeah I did!"

"It's dislocated."

"Huh?"

"Your kneecap in pushed up, the only way this will get better is if it's snapped back into place. I can take you to the hospital or I can try to put it back in place myself."

"Can you try? Please...my mom...I can't."

"Okay but I'm not going to lie, it's going to hurt, A LOT. Lay down." I help her lie on her back on the cross walk before I go over to a nearby pine and snap a branch off that's about two finger widths thick and six inches long.

"What's that for?" She asks.

"It's for the pain. Open your mouth." She obeys and I gingerly place the stick between her teeth. "Bite down." She gives me a questioning look but bites down. Her knee is still bent so I grab her shin and calf with my left hand and place my right hand at the top of her knee cap. She winces in pain. "I'm going to do this as quickly as possible. I'm going to quickly straighten your leg and push your knee cap back into place. You ready?" She nods. "Okay now..one..two-" I jerk her leg straight and hear a loud pop before she screams in pain through the stick between her teeth. I give her a second to adjust before I reach over and take the stick out from between her teeth. I toss the stick and help her to sit up.

"What the fuck happened to "three"?!" She says.

"Anticipation is the worse part I thought I'd spare you. you want to try and stand?"

"Um okay." I go over to her other side and she puts her right arm around my shoulders. I grab her right hand with mine and I put my left arm around her waist. I help her to stand and she puts all her weight on her non-injured leg.

"Try to take a step." She takes a step and winces. "Well?"

"I can move it now but it hurts like hell."

"It'll get better with time, let's just hope it isn't fractured. How about we go to a pharmacy drug store to pick up some bandages, anti bacterial stuff, and maybe a knee brace?"

"Okay." She responds. I help her walk to the truck and into the back seat and I sit next to her in the back.

"Okay Kev, drive us to the closest drug store." I say as we sit down.

"I'm not your chauffeur, you said we would pick up your girlfriend and then drive to the hospital, and now you want to go to a drugstore? We don't have any money anyways."

"That's probably the most educated thing I've ever heard you say." I respond.

"And I have money." Says Katy.

"Fine, but don't take too long." He says. The nearest pharmacy isn't far so we get there in less than five minutes.

"Here just take my wallet." Says Katy taking out her wallet.

"So we've reached that point in our relationship huh? I'm just automatically trusted with your wallet? You're not afraid that I'll steal your money and just run off to Vegas?" I respond.

"Dude there's like fifty bucks in here. I trust that you won't leave me for my wallet."

"Well okay be right back." I dash in and try to gather things as quickly as possible. I didn't think I would be out this long not to mention the fact that I'm already regretting leaving Katy alone with my brother. I wind up getting a surplus of bandages, a bottle of an antibacterial wound wash, and a knee brace. I pay with Katy's money and put the receipt and change in her wallet before heading back out to the truck.

"Geez it's just a knee I didn't need bandages to cover my entire fucking body." Says Katy as I get back in the truck.

"Well hi to you too, you do realize that bandages have to be changed at least daily right? I'm just hoping I got enough."

"Fine." She responds.

"Drive Kevin." I say.

"I'm bigger and stronger than you, I wouldn't push it." He replies. "Now are we actually going to the hospital, or are we stopping for margaritas first?" He says sarcastically.

"Just drive douchedick, the hospital isn't close and I want to get there before Karen wakes up." I reply. He pulls out of the drug store parking lot and starts to drive towards the hospital.

"Hm, douchedick, that's a new one. You come up with that by yourself?" He asks. I don't even bother to respond.
