Hey guys, I'm back! I have decided to make the chapters a bit larger, have fun!
On the forty-fifth day of the journey I saw the first camp that we had to get through. I hope that we could convince them to let us through without a fight. Murder is harsh on one's mind and it can stain your memory forever. I'm lucky enough to not let my emotions affect my outward life.
We approached the gate and I called out. "Hello? Can we go through?"
"Why don't you pay up and we'll think bout it." A gravelly voiced man said above me.
"Pay? There is a price? For what?" I asked
"Travel through." He said.
"No, the cost."
"Oh… Well, we thought that people would say no."
"Well I need through. So whats the cost."
He turned to look at something, looked back at us with a shocked expression, and dropped to our level. "Turns out you have a wanted person."
I looked at Joe. "I suppose thats you?"
"Yeah." Joe said sternly.
"We want him… Dead." The bandit pointed a sword at Joe.
"I was hoping this wouldn't happen." I drew my scythes.
Joe put out his hand and the gate exploded, taking out the bandit in the process. I ran trough, followed by Mist, Shard, Cupa, and Silica. I swung my skythes at a few bandits. I aimed for the head, shorten their suffering.
I looked around for my friends. Andr teleported inside in the beginning and was smashing people with her hammer. Cupa ditched her sword and was punching her enemies, packing explosions behind each hit. Silica was singing her sword and getting small cuts and running, using the poison to its full extent. Shard and Mist were nowhere to be seen, but knives where flying from everywhere at enemies. Skull was casting balls of fire with Red. Taco? When did he get here? Well he was having trouble, so I went to help.
"Hey Taco! Jump away!" I pulled an old explosive from my side bag and threw it. I forgot for a moment that i had the bag, I had made it while I crafted the things we needed for the trip. As for the explosive, I found a few on a grenadier hunter Skull killed on the way here.
"Holy crap!" TB yelled when he saw what I threw. He got a bit away but one of the bodies who weren't listening to my yell collided with him and knocked him over.
I looked back at the bandits who survived and noticed they all had knives in them but two, those two either had a hammer above their heads or a fist below them. Andr and Cupa finished them off quickly, and powerfully. How do I survive Cupa's blows? Strong bones, I suppose.
"I didn't expect the grenade to be that crappy." Only three bandits died from the explosive, one of which was the one who hit TB. I don't know how the body was thrown so far but maybe he was protecting his friends. Made me feel bad to think that the people were still people, they just underestimated us.
"That grenade was not crappy." TB said, standing up. He had a broken middle finger and was letting his hand rest as to not move it. I went looking around the camp for a splint, but found nothing.
"I could replace your finger. If you want." I said.
"If your going to, do it now, my hand is numb." TB Walked to a table and sat down. surprisingly, the table wasn't bloody.
"I can jury rig a splint if you want."
"A robotic finger is cool, but I want it weaponized."
"There isn't a lot I can do with a finger. maybe I can make a blade for it, or something like that." I looked through my bag for a clean knife to cut his finger off with. Once I found one I started to grab materials for a fire.
"Hey, let me help you out." Rain said in my head. "Remember when I melted and reformed your arm? I found out that I could manipulate technology by liquefying it. I have been trying to master that ability while you sleep. I can heat up your arm pretty easily."
"How did you know I was looking for heating something up?" I said out loud, causing everyone to look at me.
"Great, my surgeon is insane." TB laughed. "Rain talking?"
"Yeah" I looked at my right hand. It was a red color and the air around it was warm. I grabbed the blade of the knife and quickly the tool heated up. I walked to TB and asked him to put his finger on the table. he did and I promptly cut his finger off quickly pushing the blade into the wound to cauterize it. TB winced and laughed.
"I am so glad its numb. That hurt even with the numbness. Can still feel it in my wrist and all the way up my arm."
"Try not to touch the wound, don't want it to open up."
I got to work on a mechanical finger. Using metal from the base and the tricks Rain provided I had a high quality finger built like the one on my arm. after that I created a base so that the finger could be removed and reattached easily and wired both the finger and the base with nerve dust. I then fitted the base on to TB's Missing finger area and screwed in the bolts. It bled a little then stopped. The finger magnetically connected. Wish I did this with my arm, It would make sleeping easier.
"On that note," Rain said to me. "The upgrades I'm planning for your arm could result in you never needing to sleep again."
"Ok I am done, try to move it." I ignored Rain, though the thought was appealing.
"Good to know you like it. And if it's taken you this long to realise, I can hear your thoughts."
Well duh. That was obvious, but I still ignored him. "Let's get going!" I shouted for everyone to hear, the gang had moved from here but the call would reach them.
We set out about fifteen minutes later and five minutes after the departure TB screamed in pain and fell unconcious. He wasn't expecting the pain from the nerve-wire connection. It is equivalent to taking in all the pain of thirty spoons cutting into your skin slowly, than having your organs slowly cut out of your body by rusty scissors, into one location. Thats for each bolt, of which He had two small bolts, and I had two larger ones and thirty six small ones. I am so glad I didn't bleed out. Those were some dang good bandages.
I picked him up and threw him over my shoulder. We continued from there. After the next twenty three days Andr admitted to being homesick.
"Why are you homesick? We live in a hole in a wall. And we're all here" I said.
"It is a very nice hole." Mist said, nodding her head with a silly reassuring face.
"Simons all alone back there." Andr said, looking a little agitated.
"I bet he feels awesome." Cupa said.
"You scared Cupa, not gonna get homesick for a cat." TB said, massaging under the base of his new finger. It was touchable five days ago, not bruised anymore, just sore. I massaged my arm for a few weeks, maybe a couple months, when the bruise faded.
"Hey! I just don't - cats are a solo species, he can help himself." Cupa defended.
I laughed "Come on. Were almost there, look." I pointed at a forest on the horizon. "Inside that forest is where the camp is. Hopefully, we will find Zorphos."
"I'll be the one to kill him." Skull said.
"Ok, thats settled. No objections?" I said loudly.
Reyus raised her hand. "He helps those bandits who destroyed my town. I want to fire the bolt that kills him."
Skull simply looked down at his feat and cursed under his breath. He would stay out of her way, probably, supposing he is who he used to be. That wasn't likely, this place could change anyone. I'm only lucky I haven't changed, aside from killing people to protect my group.
I lead the group into the forest and noticed as soon as we entered. A faint red line crossed along the floor. It looked like a shield but there was no fluctuation at all. I put a finger to my lips and beckoned Skull. He looked at it and nodded his head. He mouthed what looked like 'Smart idea' then put a finger to his mouth. I think he was telling me it was good idea remaining silent and quieting everyone. Skull took out a knife and summoned a fireball to heat it up. When the fireball disappeared the entire blade was wrapped in weird runic marks. He carved into a tree next to him and, when he finished, he put his hands up to it and it glew. Suddenly a bolt of light struck from the rune and hit an invisible wall, I suppose the shield.
"Ward breaking rune, it's safe to talk now. We need to move fast though, unlikely they didn't notice that. They don't know exactly where we are though."
"How do you know that?" I asked.
"I've used the ward before. Low grade sound detector and bio-analytic ward."
"So it knows when a person passes under it or speaks near it, I suppose." Shard said.
"Yes. Most don't get that right away." Skull put his knife in his pocket.
"Don't you have a sheath for that?" I asked.
"No, I don't need one."
"That doesn't seem safe." I said.
"It can't cut people unless the user wants people to be cut. useful only for placing runes."
We continued into the forest until we saw a scout force. We were being hunted. I quietly told everyone we should try to get there without casualties. We needed whatever surprise we could achieve with them knowing we are here. The wall was visible soon after the third scout passed us by. We were left of the gate. We prepared to raid the fort, then an enemy shout set an alarm.
