Chapter Thirteen: This Is War

I wasn't a huge fan of the aircraft, but it seemed that Natasha and Clint had control of it.

Tony had left for his tower, and that's where we were headed. That's where the Tesseract was. I didn't know how we would stop it, but I had faith that Tony knew what to do. And, maybe Bruce would return and help us.

I was hopeful. More than I should have been.

I looked at Steve, who was staring at the floor.

"Steve?" I asked, the silence making it seem like I screamed.

He looked up, glancing into my eyes.

"Do you think we can do this? I mean, save the whole world, and make it out alive?" My tone was a little off key and lowered into the quietness.

"Yeah, we'll make it." He tried to smile.

I sighed, hardly believing him.

"Nicole, we're a team, we'll make it." Steve told me, reassuringly.

I nodded, faking a smile. We could make it, we were The Avengers. We could make it. We had to.

I wished Bruce was here, with me. He could comfort me in my time of need, my time of want. He was my heart, he was my heartbeat. I couldn't make it without him. And the thought that he wasn't okay sent chills down my spine.

I press the earpiece closer to my ear. "Tony, do you copy?"

"Copy," His voice filled my eardrums.

"Good, you at the Tower?"

"Yup, I just got here, I'm, going in."

"Is Loki there?" I sighed when he answered yes. "You're crazy."

"I might be, but don't worry, I'll be out in no time."

"Just be careful, okay?" My voice had a tang of sadness that lingered in it.

"I will," Then his voice cut, and he didn't answer further.

"Tony's at the Tower, says Loki's there."

"Got it," Natasha said, focusing on the sky. We were drawing closer to Stark Tower.

"We might have another problem," Clint said, looking up.

I got up from my seat and walked to the front of the aircraft. My jaw dropped when I followed Clint's gaze.

A black hole was coming from a light blue beam of light. And aliens were pouring through.

Great, just great.

I bit my lip, fear spreading throughout my body.

"Don't worry, we got this." It was Predator. Her voice was oddly reassuring.

I nodded, to myself. We'd be fine. Loki wouldn't be the ruler of our planet, not if we were here.

"Were's Thor?" I asked, still looking at the portal.

"We don't know. He and The Hulk fell from the Helli-carrier." Natasha muttered.

"This day just gets better and better." I said, sarcastically.

I don't know what happened, but something did, and the aircraft was going down.

I gripped the side of the plane, holding my turning stomach. Again, never was a fan of planes, or high places.

"Hold on," Clint said, his voice strained.

"Oh, no, I was just going to stand, not holding on, and hope for the best." I growled, leaning my head back.

I closed my eyes, and held onto the seat-belt straps for dear life. I felt if I let go, everyone would fall and die. My knuckles were white with effort, and my hands pained with a tense burning sensation.

I felt the aircraft hit something, then something else, until I felt us land, not as smoothly as I hoped.

I opened my eyes, and everyone else was getting up, preparing to exit the plane. They looked ready for the aliens that we were about to face.

Where was the rest of our team?

Thor arrived just a couple of minutes later, and he ran over to me, quickly. His hair was unusually in a mess, and his face was a weird mix of sadness, anger, and excitement. He looked at me, and smiled.

"You know, Lady Moore, Predator isn't as bad as you think."

I raised an eyebrow at him. "What do you mean?"

"Predator didn't attack me, she kind of saved me, in a way." He shrugged.

"Um. . .thanks, but, this clearly not the time or place to bring this up."

He nodded, "Agreed."

The aliens came down as if it was a rainstorm. There didn't seem to be an were ugly looking things. Their technology was advanced. They had hover car looking things. I was impressed.

But, as all alien stories go, they are always more advanced than Earth.

The fight had begun, and we were separated for a short amount of time. I used my fire-balls as my attack. The aliens didn't seem to like fire.

Tony, in his suit, had made his way down to me, fighting alongside me. We made a good duo, I suppose.

Soon, Captain America, Natasha, Clint, and Thor had joined us. There eyes focused on the sky. I followed their gazes. My eyes widened.

It was a giant worm looking thing. It was floating, or flying, through the air.

"Holy crap." I whispered. "Is everyone else seeing this?"

"Seeing, still working on believing." Tony said.

It was coming towards us, mainly because Tony had made it. He called it a party. An effing party.

"Well, this is all horrible." A familiar voice said from behind us.

I turned in a quick flash. It was Bruce. He wore a light purple shirt, and pants. His dark brown hair was all messy. I ran to him, embracing him into a hug. He only returned it, breathing into my neck.

"I've seen worse." Natasha muttered.

I shot her a glance, before turning my attention back to Bruce.

"I've missed you." I whispered into his ear.

"I did too, more then you know." He whispered back to me.

Tony cleared his throat. "Um.. that's nice and all, but we have this whole alien war to deal with."

I looked at him, before releasing Bruce from my grip. The worm-thing was still coming at us. Bruce walked forward, away from my grasp, and turned to The Captain.

"You want to know my secret Cap," The alien worm raced across the ground. Bruce continued to walk forward. "I'm always angry."

I blinked at the words. Just then, his body began to turn green, and grow bigger, stronger. I stared at him in awe.

The alien worm crashed into Bru- The Hulk, and The Hulk was able to stop it, before it reached us. But, it began to curl up into the air, coming at the rest of us. Tony shot a laser at it.

Captain America grasped his shield tighter in his hand, and protected Natasha from the debris. Tony grabbed me, pulling me slightly away. But, he didn't have enough time. I threw up a fire shield, blocking us both. Before the debris hit us, it melted, falling at our feet. Then, I let the fire shield fall away, smoke filling its place.

"Thanks, Tony." I smiled at him.

"Welcome," His robotic voice answered.

Then The Captain began shouting orders at us. He told Tony, Clint, and I to take everything from above. Thor, Natasha, and him would take the streets.

"And, Hulk," He paused. "Smash."

The Hulk smiled. I looked up at The Hulk's face, and instantly found the similarities in their faces. Same warm brown eyes, facial structure. Stuff like that.

I walked over to Tony, who had a grip on Clint.

"Firefly, get on my back."

I nodded, getting up on Iron Man's back. "Alright, Man Of Iron." I said, earning a smile from Thor. I had my arms around his neck, and my legs around his waist.

I looked over the group again, and I admit, we were a rowdy group of superheros, but we were finally a team. It took us awhile to gain some traction, but we got there. And we would save the world, or try.

"Clench up, Legolas." Tony told Clint.

Nice one, Tony. I chuckled slightly.

Then, Tony shot upward, like a rocket. I tightened my grip, although Tony would of felt anything. I held in a scream, because that would only encourage Tony more, and I, personally, didn't want that.
