Fred and George led me towards Diagon Alley, and we ended up at the infamous Leaky Cauldron. It was late so it wasn't bustling, however Fred and George seemed to know everyone, as everyone came up to greet them.
I stood back awkwardly, holding my clutch bag against me awkwardly. A few people snuck a few looks that showed they were interested in knowing who I was but wasn't curious enough to ask.
However, one person was different to the others. Both his looks wise, and personality. He was quite tall, and I wondered whether he had giant blood in him. I'd never met one in the flesh, but I had read a bit about them and he fit a half blood description. He had brown scraggly hair, but his beetle like black eyes radiated kindness.
"Hagrid! It's so great to see you!" The twins said, running up to give him a hug and he was able to engulf them both easily enough.
"Why if it isn't you two! It's lovely to see you both two. Now, who's this pretty girl with you both?"
"This is our friend, Carly." Fred introduced, and even in my tipsy state I didn't miss the fact he seemed to purposely avoid introducing me as his brother's girlfriend, but chose not to intervene. "Carly, Hagrid is a teacher at Hogwarts"
"Carly Donovan, lovely to meet you." I said, offering my hand and he shook my entire arm before a look of recognition dawned on his face.
"You're the youngest Donovan sister! The one that your father shielded from the happenings at Hogwarts because of the upcoming second wizardry war. The mysterious one." Hagrid smiled at me.
"Y-you knew my father?" I asked him, stuttering a little out of shock. Fred actually grabbed my hand and gave it a light squeeze, knowing how difficult yet how delightful this conversation would be.
"Of course I did. He was at Hogwarts when I was gamekeeper. You know how you two were inspired by The Marauders? The Marauders were inspired by the trouble making made by Andrew Donovan and his friends. Gryffindors too." Hagrid said, addressing Fred and George by the end of his statement.
"Your dad must have been a good guy." George said to me, putting a hand on my shoulder. He had either been told, or had guessed by now.
"Yeah, he was." I smiled.
"I'd love to stay and chat with you all, but it's quite late and I've had quite a lot to drink. I've rented a room for tonight because I don't think I'll be able to arrange transport back to my hut at Hogwarts tonight. Goodnight Fred, George. Lovely to meet you, Carly. Whichever one of you two are with her, you best keep your eye on her or some other young wizard will easily snatch her up!" Hagrid said, showing the extent of his drunkenness before he trudged off and made his way up the stairs.
"He's a well known regular here. Really great guy, haven't seen him for a while." Fred said to me.
I just nodded my head, unsure of how to really reply.
"Holy crap! Fred! Look, it's Angelina!" George exclaimed loudly, grabbing the attention of whoever this Angelina was.
Fred's reaction was priceless though; he looked horror stricken and quickly grabbed me and turned our backs on the situation. George, looking awkward and unsure of what to do, quickly decided to go over and greet this girl, giving Fred a pat on the back before walking over to her.
"Do you know what? Do you want to get out of here? I'll explain it to you once we're out of here." Fred said to me, casting a look over to where this Angelina was with George and a few of her friends.
"Uh, okay." I responded, shooting him a smile, even though I was confused inside.
I was expecting Fred to at least say goodbye to George but I was wrong as he turned around and left the pub promptly. His quick exit did grab the attention of Angelina and George, and I sent them both a small smile and a wave before heading out after him.
Fred and I ended up at a late night takeaway joint. One of the ones that served fried foods, chips, pizza slices and donner kebabs to drunk people.
Fred had never been in a muggle one before, hell there was no magic community versions of what we were in right now. There was a drinking culture in the Wizarding world, but it was nothing like a good night out in London at muggle joints. Maybe when I'm older I'll enjoy that the Wizarding drinking culture was a little classier, but for now there's nowhere else I'd rather be.
So I bought Fred some food, and he eventually opened up about why he went weird about this Angelina girl.
She was his Hogwarts girlfriend. They briefly dated in sixth year after going to the Yule Ball together, and it was serious enough that they both apparently lost their virginities to each other too. They broke up because Fred dropped out of school to open up the joke shop with his brother, but he didn't go into heavy detail about it.
"…and yeah, it's really awkward now. George and I both see our Hogwarts friends on a regular basis and because she was in the circle, it's weird. It's not that I dislike her; I just don't know how to act around her. She got really angry and upset when I left that she was the one who broke it off, but it's been five years. It should all be okay." Fred said, and sent a shrug after his statement to show it was all-casual, but I could see otherwise.
"Yeah, I have those situations sometimes. You don't know what to do, so you kind of just avoid it all." I agreed, nodding my head.
I was feeling a bit awkward right now, in the exact way Fred was describing. I wasn't jealous he was talking about his ex or that we saw her, but it felt unsettling. The worst part was that I didn't know why. I had a boyfriend – his brother. But him talking about another girl bothered me. This was really messed up.
"So there's all that drama. Then there's the fact that George is practically in love with her. Makes it so much harder." Fred sighed, dropping his slice of greasy pizza and slumping into his chair.
"Has he told you about it?" I asked Fred curiously.
"No. But I can pick up on these things. I don't even care if he goes there, I've moved on. Angelina was one of my closest friends growing up so I really do wish her the best. I don't know how she feels about George, we haven't spoken in five years." Fred shrugged.
"Hm. I think you need some sleep. We didn't have a huge night but we haven't had any alcohol in a while so I think our bodies are beginning to shut down. But I think some more communication is needed with your brother." I said to Fred.
"Whatever. Let's keep the night going." Fred grinned, standing up suddenly and offered his hand to help me up.
I shook my head and giggled, but accepted it and was up on my feet in no time.
