Pokemon Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire
Chapter 14: Grovyle's Vile Personality
The taste of vomit is what awakens me, and I roll over, coughing out a mix of food and swallowed water. Well, that was a waste of perfectly good food. Blinking, I look around, and see a forest about twenty feet from where I am now lying. I push myself to my feet, and dust off the sand from my shirt. Luckily, my fannypack is still securely tied around my waist.
I check through it to make sure everything is still there. The letter to deliver to Mr. Stone's son, my May clothes, Pokeballs, and...the blue orb thingy. I let out a sigh of relief, and look around. I may have managed to keep my belongings...but where am I?
I crouch down, then leap up into the air, my fingers digging into the bark of a tree. Pulling myself up, my head pokes through the canopy of the leafs, and I look around. Nothing but forest for miles.
"Tch..." I grimace, and drop down onto a lower branch, thinking about my next course of action. Well, the only thing I can do now, is head in one direction, and find the end of the forest. Swinging from my perch, I propel myself through the trees, grasping each branch with such ease, one would think I had grown up doing this. And I did grow up doing this. That's when something makes me stop mid-swing.
Pausing for a moment, I listen intently—had I imagined it? There was the sound of a Pokemon up ahead, and from what I heard, it should be pretty big, yet smaller than me. Ever so slowly, I reach back, and pull a Pokeball off my belt, arm at the ready. Holding it, I wait for a moment, before the undergrowth explodes beneath me.
"GROOOOO!" I hear, and something slams into my stomach, knocking me to the forest floor.
"Oof!" I grunt, but bounce back up almost immediately, arms raised.
"Gro gro, vyle."
I don't need to pull out my Pokedex to know what Pokemon this is.
"Grovyle," I seethe, feeling anger coursing through my vains. "You're gonna pay for attacking me out of the blue." Grovyle sticks a twig into its mouth, and smirks as if it didn't care.
I glare, and clench my fists. "C'mon! Let's have a battle! Just you and me!" In a flash, the Pokemon uses Quick Attack, and I block it with my arm, knocking him to the side. "Grooo..."
"Heh!" I mutter, and swing a punch, but miss. Suddenly, I feel my Pokeballs being ripped from my belt, and the Pokemon leaps away, bounding off into the distance.
"DAMN YOU!" I shriek, and give chase. "Gimme back my Pokemon you thief!" Sprinting quickly, I push through the undergrowth of the forest, and manage to keep Grovyle in sight; I didn't grow up in the open country without being at home in it, so following an enemy is a piece of cake. I watch as Grovyle leaps over a ravine ahead, and I shimmy up a tree before jumping off and to the other side.
Landing, I take off after the grass type. My legs are burning, but I feel amazing; the chase is something I've missed while being in the 'civilized' world. This is my home, and the adrenaline just makes things better.
"AHHHHHH!" I shout, and catch up to the Pokemon before tackling it to the ground. "TAKE THIS!"
I grapple with it, and elbow it in the face. Whipping out something from my pocket, I slam it into Grovyle's chest. "GRO?!" it yelps in complete surprise, and I smirk as it is enveloped in a red light, and sucked into a Pokeball.
I clamp my hand over it, as it tries to escape, and wait til the ball goes still. I smirk. "I can capture anything I want," I grin. "Stupid Grovyle. You shouldn't mess with me! I'm the Queen of the Forest! The Speed Demon! A nightmare for all people who aren't me!" Scooping up my other Pokemon, I deposit all four of them into my bag.
Suddenly, I smell something. Sniffing the air, I follow my nose towards a small creek, which leads to...the ocean! The salty scent is super strong, and I look down the beach to see-"Ruby?" I say in confusion. "Whatcha doing here?"
He crosses his arms. "Mr. Briney almost had a heart attack when he found out you fell overboard." I raise an eyebrow. "But I told him that with your horrible personality and terrifying strength, you'd probably beat up the ocean before giving it the chance to make you drown-" He's on the ground in an instant, and I shove my foot into his back as I yank on his arms.
"JERK!" I shout. "I'm gonna rip yer arms off!"
"Sapphire!" I hear, and turn to see Mr. Briney. "We're going to head to Dewford now, if you don't mind letting go of Ruby." I shove him into the dirt face first, and follow the sailor onto the boat.
Suddenly, my PokeNav rings. "Hello?" I ask, feeling irritated.
"May?"
I freeze, and hold a hand over the mic. "What is it Drew?" I hiss. "I'm kinda in a weird situation.."
"How many ribbons do you have?" he asks, and I can practically hear his ego through the receiver.
"One."
"Ha! I have two!" I grumble, and sigh. "Whatever, is that all you wanted to do? Gloat?"
"No, I'm wondering when you're going to go to the next contest? I'm planning to beat you again."
I seethe. "You wish! I'll be at which ever one is happening next. Now, GOODBYE." I hang up, and shove my PokeNav into my pocket.
"Damn grass head..." I mutter.
Ruby sits across from me. "Hey, isn't that Dewford?" he says, pointing, and I look over to see a city appearing in the distance.
"Looks like it," I mumble, resting my chin on my hand.
"Land ho!" Mr Briney calls, and directs us towards the city.
I look down at my Pokeballs. I'm not sure I want to let Grovyle out for a while...I'm sure he's still pissed, and I don't know what he'll do when I see release him next...
:)
Edit 5/7/14: This is now on hiatus until the games Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire come out. :D I just want to play them before writing more of this. Okay? :D
