Hi! So, I got a review from a guest in the last chapter asking what my religion was and if I was African American. Well, to answer your questions, I'm Baptist, so Christian of course. Also, no I'm not African American. I'm actually white, or Caucasian, whatever you'd prefer to call it. But I'm most definitely not racist. I love everyone.
I don't own Austin & Ally
Toby's POV
I sighed as I walked down the hall to my next class. Dang it! Why do I always have to screw things up?
I stopped in the middle of the hallway as I realized two things. One, I'm a total idiot. And two, I'm going the wrong way. Ella and I are in the same class next period.
"Dang it!" I shouted out loud, earning a few strange looks from the few people left in the hall. The bell had just rung, and I'm already late so there's no reason I should rush.
"Uh…Bentley?"
I turned around and tried not to groan as I saw Derek Cole walking up to me. "What?"
"Alright, not be rude or anything, but what's got you so frustrated? You don't even act like that in practice…"
I slumped against the lockers, wishing for nothing more than to just bang my head against them. But I wouldn't do that with an audience.
"Look, it hasn't been a very good day, alright? And now I'm late for class to top it all off. Gosh, my mom is going to kill me" I muttered.
"Yeah, that woman doesn't seem to like it when people are tardy" Derek said leaning against the lockers beside me. I rolled my eyes. "Now what's up, kid? Is it that Ella chick?"
"Don't call her a chick" I said cutting my eyes towards him. He held his arms up in defense.
"Whoa dude, I didn't mean that offensive. I just saw you talking to her a few minutes ago, and it didn't appear to be going well. Very different from how y'all looked in the classroom…"
I huffed. "Why are you even talking to me?"
He raised his eyebrows. "Why not?"
"That's not an answer" I grumbled.
"Well neither was that" he shot back. My goodness, this could go on forever.
"Don't you have some cheerleader waiting in the janitor's closet or something?"
"Hey now, I'm not judging you on anything when I could be. You never talk in practice and you never look like you want to be there, yet I'm still trying to talk to you. Don't assume anything about me when you don't even know me, Bentley. My life isn't as predictable as you might think" he said crossing his arms now.
I have to admit, that was pretty rude of me. I sighed.
"Look man, I'm sorry. Ella's my best friend, and we don't usually fight like that-"
"Yeah I get it" he laughed, cutting me off. "You're in love with her, and she doesn't know it yet."
"Huh?" I'm pretty sure my voice rose about three levels right then, and I can't recall my voice ever being that high since I was thirteen.
He laughed. "Bro, it is so obvious. You're like a monster out on the field, but when you talk to her, you're like a giant marshmallow. All soft," he grinned.
"I do not!" But even I couldn't make that sound true.
"So when'd you fall for the ch-girl?" he asked, correcting himself right in the middle of his sentence. Smart move.
I rolled my eyes because he obviously was ignoring all my protests. "This summer" I grumbled.
"And how long have you known her?"
"…since we were five" I admitted.
"You're screwed" he said simply.
I groaned and threw my head back.
"Toby Grayson Bentley!"
Yep, completely and totally screwed.
"Hi Mom" I grinned sheepishly.
Ella's POV
I walked into Maddie's classroom and made it right before the bell rang. Music class. I love music class, but it's also theatre this year. Fun. Note my sarcasm.
"Well hello Dawson" Maddie grinned at me. I laughed.
"Hey Mrs. West, how was your summer?" I asked. Like I don't already know…
"Pretty good, actually. My husband's little sister got married this summer, and it was just the most adorable ceremony" Maddie said trying not to laugh. We love our little inside jokes.
"No way, my best friend's sister also got married this summer too. It was so romantic!"
"Oh, I bet. Speaking of your best friend, where is he? I have it on my roster Mr. Bentley is supposed to be in here right now" she said.
"What!?" I exclaimed, making people turn towards us. In a quieter voice, I asked, "What do you mean he's supposed to be in this class? He went the other way!"
"Well it clearly states he's in this class" Maddie said looking a little worried now. "You even said you were both in my class together."
I quickly got out my phone to see what our schedules said. Mine read…
1. Color guard
2. English
3. Science
4. Math
5. Music/Theatre
6. History
7. Spanish
I then pulled up a picture Toby sent of his schedule that read…
1. English
2. Spanish
3. Science
4. Math
5. Music/Theatre
6. History
7. Football
So we have Science, Math, Music/Theatre, and History together. Maddie was right. Toby's supposed to be in here with me. Oh no, where is he? Was he really that upset about our fight or-
"Mrs. West" I suddenly heard Aunt Claire say from the door. I looked up to see she had Toby….and Derek beside her.
I could see Maddie visibly relax when she saw Toby. "Yes, Mrs. Bentley?"
"I'm so sorry to have kept two of your students late. Mr. Cole and my son were meant to stay back in my class for a bit and I had to go get them from the hallway" Aunt Claire said, though she seemed to be gritting her teeth. Apparently Toby and Derek weren't supposed to be in her class like she said.
"Oh, that's quite alright A-Mrs. Bentley. No worries" Maddie grinned. I'm glad she stopped herself early before she said Aunt Claire.
"Thank you Mrs. West. I should get back to my class now."
"Yes, of course. And thank you for bringing them back. If you ever need them again just send them with a pass."
"Will do" Aunt Claire said and left. I looked over at Toby and noticed him and Derek were laughing. Wait, what? Am I missing something?
"Dude, you should have seen your face" Derek laughed.
"My face? Man, you were just standing there! My mom was so pissed she could've slapped you!"
Yep, definitely missing something.
"Um, Toby" I said, causing them both to look at me.
"Oh, hey Ells. What's up?" Toby asked. I gaped at him. What's up? What's up!? Is he kidding me? Like, did he already forget we were fighting….or did it just not bother him?
"The ceiling" I sighed, walking over to the chair sitting closest to Maddie's desk.
"Oh Ella, you do amuse me" Toby grinned, shaking his head before he turned back around and was talking to Derek again.
"Class, this is music and theatre. I don't mind you talking as long as you stay in the classroom and don't get up too much" Maddie said loudly before walking over and sitting at her desk. "Ella, bring your chair over here behind my desk and sit down."
"Why?" I asked sighing as I drug my chair over there and slumped into it. Maddie turned to me, looking concerned. Great, this is just what I need right now.
"What's the matter, Ella? Do you feel okay?" she asked.
"Stop worrying" I groaned.
"Well, I can't help it. I just had the twins in my last two classes and Evan was freaking out. Emma apparently ran all the way to history and made her heart race just so Evan would stop freaking out and-"
"What? Emma made her heart race and you're just now telling me this!?" I asked standing up.
"Ella, you have the same heart problem. She said it was coming down, and it wasn't even really a spell her heart rate just picked up a bit and-"
"Maddie, I don't care if it was slower than usual! If she has a spell, I want you to tell me! I need to know these things. She's my little sister, and I want to know what-"
"Ella, honey, it's okay, alright? Emma is perfectly fine. In fact, I'd worry more about Evan if I were you. I thought I had him calmed down in history, but last period he started freaking out again because I said something about what we'd be doing next semester" Maddie said. I sighed but sat down again. "Now tell me, Ella, what's the matter?"
"He's confusing" I mumbled, looking over at Toby who was still laughing with Derek.
"Oh, so it's boy troubles huh? Following my advice of coming to me first?" she asked. I laughed.
"No, no, nothing like that. But that is funny, because I just told Emma the same thing you told me my first day of middle school, except I told her to tell me. You don't mind do you?" I asked. She smiled, shaking her head.
"Of course I don't mind, that's adorable. Now tell me, if it isn't boy troubles, what is it?" she asked.
"Toby troubles" I said rolling my eyes.
"Okay, well last time I checked Toby was a boy…" she said slowly.
"You know what I mean" I sighed. "It's just…I don't know. We just got into a fight and now he's acting like everything's fine. And he isn't even talking to me much now. I mean, I wanted a class with him so we could talk to each other, but now he's suddenly got a new friend. I love that he's making friends, but literally just a few minutes ago we were fighting because of him not wanting to talk to any of the other guys on the team. Now look at him. He's acting like-well like they're…."
"Like they're best friends?" Maddie asked sympathetically. I winced.
"Exactly" I sighed. "You'd think eleven years would count for more than five minutes but…"
"Ella, honey, you don't have anything to worry about. This is Toby we're talking about for crying out loud! You two are always going to be best friends, don't you worry" she tried to assure me. It wasn't helping, but I appreciated her effort, so I gave her a weak smile.
"Yo Mrs. West, how's them kids of yours? Still pulling your tail?" some guy yelled out. I rolled my eyes and moved the chair back. At times like these, I'd rather write a story or make up a dance routine, so I moved my chair back to where it was and got out my little notebook from my purse.
This is going to be a long day.
"Hey Ells, it's lunch time. You mind if Dereck sits with us?" Toby asked me half an hour later. I'd been totally zoned out, too busy writing down my story ideas. I would love to go home right now and dance through my frustrations, but I know I can't do that so I'm making a story out of it.
I gave him my best fake smile. "Sure, why not. Sounds like fun."
Toby frowned at my words but didn't say anything about it. "Okay then."
I wasn't planning on saying much at lunch either, because Toby and Derek were talking about football, but they brought me in on the conversation.
"So Ella, are you a Gators* fan too?" Derek asked me. I laughed a little.
"No way. Just because I live in Florida, doesn't mean I have to go for Florida" I shook my head.
"Ella's a Bama fan, dude. She's weird like that" Toby grinned at me. I rolled my eyes. Toby always ragged on me for this. I don't get it. I mean, I know we live in Florida, but doesn't it make more sense to go for the winning team? Alabama happens to have fifteen National Championships. Florida's got three. Alabama has twenty-three SEC championships, and Florida has eight. Who would you go for?
I shrugged. "I go for the winning team, bro."
"Bro?" I rolled my eyes at Toby's remarked as they both laughed. "See how weird she is?"
"You're so stupid" I said rolling me eyes. Toby grinned at me again.
"I love you too" he said in a mocking voice.
"Shut up" I mumbled.
"Okay, well as adorable and sickening as this little display you two got going on is, I actually want to keep my appetite while I'm at lunch" Derek laughed.
"What kind of football player can't hold his food?" I smirked.
"Oh…" Toby said in a low voice making me giggle.
"Juniors" we heard Derek mutter as he rolled his eyes. I fought back a smile as he turned back to me. "And what kind of little flag girl talks like a hipster?"
"Flag girl?" I said through gritted teeth. "I know you did not just call me that."
"Oh crap, all heck's about to break loose" Toby whispered to Derek not-so-subtle-y. I loved how he always made sure not to cuss. Like seriously, there may be a total of five kids in our entire grade, including us, that don't cuss. Maybe not even that many.
"Awe come on man, what's she gonna do?" Derek chuckled. "Little junior flag girl….."
"Toby, I hope you enjoyed half an hour of having a new friend because I'm about to kill him" I said glaring at Derek. Flag girl….oh the nerve of that boy!
"Ella, don't make me restrain you" Toby laughed.
"Try if you will, all it takes is a frying pan to bring you down Flynn Rider" I giggled. We've kind of gotten past the whole I-almost-killed-my-best-friend thing. He was over it from the start, I just mean I'm finally getting over it. At least we *cough* I *cough* can joke about it now.
"I don't see any frying pans…." Toby smirked.
"I'll just get Maddie to sit on you while I remodel your face a bit" I grinned, holding up my lip gloss that I had in my purse. No, I'm not one of those girls all into makeup. I just really love the smell of this watermelon lip gloss.
"Maddie?" Derek said suddenly. I jumped. I had completely forgotten he was standing there.
"Family friend" I mumbled dismissively.
"She here?" Derek asked raising an eyebrow.
"I meant when we get home" I said. "Stay out of this bro, you're next."
"Why do you keep calling me bro? It's kind of weird…" Derek said trailing off. I shrugged.
"I call everyone bro. And if you call me flag girl one more time, I may just have to call you sis."
"Why would you-oh…." Derek said as realization slowly dawned on him. "Dang Bentley, I didn't know your little girlfriend was so vicious."
"Try living with her like this for eleven, almost twelve years. I'm lucky to be alive" Toby joked back. I pouted. I did, however, notice that Toby never said anything about Derek saying we're together.
"That was just one time, come on I wouldn't have killed you" I said looking down a little. Okay, so maybe I'm not totally over it.
"Gosh, what did you do to piss her off?" Derek asked.
"Nothing!" I exclaimed, picking my head back up. Toby didn't even get the chance to respond. "He didn't do anything. I stupidly thought he was a burglar, okay? I didn't purposely try to hit him over the head with a frying pan. Well, I did, but I didn't know it was him."
"Does she always babble like this when she gets defensive?" Derek suddenly asked, turning towards Toby. I gaped at him.
"She gets it from her mother" Toby said nodding.
"I do not! I sound nothing like my mom!" No matter how much I wish I did…
"Oh, you sound just like Ally" Toby continued. "You both just ramble on and on about the most ridiculous things. It's kind of cute. Even Austin says y'all are exactly the same."
I chose to ignore his comment about my rambling being cute. Technically he also said my mom's was too so gross, and it wouldn't be the first time he's called me that. And I'm way over-thinking this….what is wrong with me!?
"You even look like her too" Toby said snapping me out of my thoughts. My head shot up at this.
"You're lying" I said narrowing my eyes at him.
"No, you look just like her. Doesn't she look just like her?" Toby asked as he showed Derek something on his phone. I tried sitting up straighter so I could see across the table (I was sitting across from the two of them) but I couldn't see it.
"Dang girl, that's your mom? If it wasn't for the age difference, I'd swear you two were twins" Derek said with wide eyes.
"Let me see that" I said trying to grab Toby's phone. He shrugged and handed it to me. I stared down at it as my mom stared back at me in the picture. I was standing right beside her. "I don't see what you're talking about…"
"Look harder" Toby instructed. I sighed and looked back down at the phone. Okay, so we both have long brown hair and brown eyes….and similar noses. I frowned a little and handed Toby back his phone as I started digging in my purse to look for mine.
"What are you doing?" Toby asked. I waved him off as I looked through my photo-stream. I had taken several pictures a while ago of my parents from Aunt Trish's year book and old photo albums Grandma Mimi had. I finally came to a picture of my mom and Aunt Trish when they were about my age. I about dropped the phone.
"How on earth is that possible?" I whispered in disbelief as I stared at my phone. Confused, Toby got up and walked around the table until he was hovering over me to where he could see my phone.
"Who's that standing beside you?" Derek asked as he came over too. I bit my lip.
"That's not me."
"It isn't?" The surprise in his voice only made this situation all the more surreal.
"That's my mom and my aunt" I gulped. "I guess I see it now…how is that even possible?"
"Well she is your mom…." Derek said looking at me strangely. "You got a blond dad or something?"
"Or something, but yes" I nodded. "Toby, how do I look like my mom? I mean it's not a bad thing but…how?"
"Well Ally looks a lot like Elliot…I guess you just got more of those genes" Toby shrugged.
"Who's Elliot?" Derek asked looking confused. I don't blame him. We must be confusing him terribly.
"My uncle" I mumbled. "Listen, it'll take way too long to explain our family's complicated history so-"
"You guys are related?" Derek asked with more surprise in his voice than ever before. I saw him look over to Toby mumbling something that sounded like, 'That's just sick man.'
"No, we're not related, we're just very close we consider everyone in both our families as one" I explained. "Toby's dad and my grandmother grew up together in the same neighbor, as close as siblings."
"Yeah, and my brother married her aunt….it's complicated" Toby agreed with a nod. I found it funny. We never mentioned that my "aunt" is also our teacher. We're in her class right now, as we're in lunch.
"Wouldn't that make y'all in-laws?" Derek asked, still sounding weirded out.
"No" I sighed. "Look, there's a lot of technicalities and things that make us unrelated, and I don't really feel like going into detail-"
"Wait, that'd make you his niece….in-law" Derek laughed a bit.
I shuddered. "Nope, no way. We are not related. No way, no how. Not even by his brother or my aunt….why am I trying to explain all this to you? I don't even know you!"
"I'm just that awesome" he joked, flexing his muscles. Something not to be admitted out loud, the dude is fit. And hot. And not to be taken the wrong way, but Toby looks better. Derek's a cutie, but Toby….well, I can't believe he hasn't had a girlfriend before.
"What am I looking at?" I asked jokingly, crossing my arms with a serious look on my face. Over the years I have mastered my serious looks without having to break out laughing. The only person I can't make it work on is Toby.
"Ouch, what an ego crusher, this one. Little flag girl's got some edge here, ain't she Bentley?"
"Sure does" Toby grinned, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. I didn't object. I'll just confront him tonight about our fight. He's almost always at our house, and if he isn't we'd just FaceTime* or something. Technology these days is awesome.
"Where'd you get all that spunk, flag girl?" Derek asked, leaning down lower so it made him look like he was talking to a child. I can't help it I'm short, he doesn't have to emphasize it.
"I will get you" I said glaring at him as I pointed a finger in his face.
"Is that a threat, flag girl?"
At the same time, Toby and I said, "That's a promise."
Toby smiled down at me. I giggled.
Emma's POV
As I walked into my sixth period science class, I felt mixed emotions on this. This is my only class without any of my friends or family. On one hand, I'm a little scared. I mean, I don't know anyone here and I don't have my friends or brother to look out for me. But on the other hand…they're kind of suffocating me.
Especially Evan.
I swear, I couldn't have been happier to get away from him for PE last period. Every single class we went to he was freaking out, even Maddie's. I don't get him.
And when we were leaving fourth period, he went ballistic.
"Emma, don't leave me!" he'd begged. I didn't know what to do. My brother had never pulled on my arm, begging me not to leave him before. He was acting like a child. I think he was imitating something Zach did to Ella last Christmas.
"Evan, we have to go to class. Go to science with Jake and you'll be fine. You have someone in all of your classes. Stick with Jake in science, Lily in career prep, and Jake again in PE. You'll be fine" I'd told him.
He hadn't taken that very well.
He'd begged me to get my schedule changed to the same as his, but I told him even if I did that we still wouldn't have PE together. Underclassmen are separated. And, since we're in middle school, we are too. Evan went ballistic. I had to get Jake to drag him away because he wouldn't let go of my arm. I don't know what's wrong with that dork.
"Hey there Emma."
Speaking of dorks….
"What do you want Riley?" I sighed. He's sort of my ex-boyfriend, but not officially. We were in elementary school. What does that even mean? I'm dead serious, Evan didn't even know that French kissing wasn't people from France kissing you until last year. I did, but I know a lot more than I should. I also know, Riley and I weren't together. Riley's just very possessive and likes to claim people.
"Well I want you little lady" he said throwing an arm over my shoulders. I rolled my eyes and shrugged him off. "Now don't be like that. We all know you've still got that elementary brain, so let me help guide the way for you-"
"Riley, I will leave that to God. He'll be my guide through middle school, through life, and through getting away from you" I sighed, walking into the classroom. Luckily he doesn't have this class with me, not that I'd doubt him following me anyway.
I groaned as he walked in after me and I slammed my books down on the table. These weren't desks, so I had to keep them there.
"I think you need a human guide, honey" Riley stated firmly.
"I think so too. Guess who's a human" I said smiling. Before he could reply, I said, "God is. He is alive. God's not dead, He rose again and He's still alive today, and again, I'm going to let God be my guide. Leave me alone Riley."
"Em, you don't know what you're saying-"
"Oh, I know exactly what I'm saying. I tried for a whole year to get you to believe in God, and all you did was try and convince me I was wrong and God didn't exist. Well, He does, but I can't force anyone to accept that. But I'll be expelled before I let you sit here and tell me you're going to try and control me any longer" I said crossing my arms.
"Whatever you say Emma Dawson, but you're going to live to regret turning me down. Just you wait and see" Riley threatened.
"Oh get over yourself" I scoffed and he left without another word. I watched him go and sighed as I sat back in my seat and put my head down.
I don't understand why I liked him so much two years ago. Truth be told, I didn't know him then; I just thought he was cute. But when I finally got the chance to know him in fifth grade, I was disappointed to hear that he didn't believe in God.
Now, my family is very religious so I've never known any different than to believe. But when I met Riley, I had way more questions on God than I had before. My parents just figured it was what normal kids go through. They all have their doubts. I wasn't doubting God, I just had questions.
Anyway, Riley became relentless. The more I talked about God, the more he countered my explanations. Riley's also very good at science, so he tried using multiple facts to discourage me. His worst evidence, in my opinion, is evolution. I know a lot of people believe that, but how in the world do people think they came from monkeys? Gorillas technically, but whatever. Like, what idiot scientist thought of that?
I groaned again as I thought about him more. The boy frustrates me to no end, and I don't even like him anymore. I haven't liked him since I got to know his personality, but I was determined to get him to believe in God like they did in all the movies. It's not as simple as that though, apparently.
"Um, excuse me" I turned around to see a guy about the same height as Bri (so still taller than me) standing there looking at me. He had black hair and the most piecing blue eyes I've ever seen in my life.
'Y-Yes?" I stuttered out. Whoa, what happened to me? I'm never usually nervous. Yet now I'm stuttering. Crap.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"Huh? Oh, um….y-yeah I'm fine. W-Why do you ask?" I stuttered. Dang I'm such a girl.
"Well you had your head down and seemed upset, so I didn't know…I'm sorry" he said biting his lip and looking away. I smiled a little.
"Well thank you for the concern. That's really sweet of you" I grinned. He smiled back, and I couldn't help but notice he had a really nice smile.
"So, um, is anyone sitting here?" he asked, gesturing towards the seat beside me.
I smiled and shook my head. "Nope, it's all your if you want it. My name's Emma."
"I'm Collin. Collin Adams."
Nice name too. I smiled again. Suddenly, my day just got a lot better.
"Oka, well then I'm Emma Dawson" I giggled. "So what do you like to do?"
He looked down. "Um, it's kind of lame."
"You're talking to a girl who's supposed to be in fifth grade and likes to read" I laughed. "Trust me, I wouldn't think you're lame."
"Okay" he laughed too. "Well, I like to read too. Mostly graphic novels, but I like the books too."
I scoffed. "Graphic novels are not books. That's so lame."
He pouted, but he must've realized I was kidding by the smile on my face. "Very funny" he rolled his eyes. "I also like art."
"Oh really?" I asked, suddenly interested. "What kind of art?"
"Any kind really" he shrugged. "I like to draw mainly."
"My sister likes to write stories. Would you be able to draw covers for her stories?" I asked.
"I guess" he shrugged again. "Do you write stories too?"
"Maybe" I said ducking my head. No one's ever asked me that, so I've never had to admit it.
"You do don't you?" he grinned. I rolled my eyes.
"I said maybe, don't make me admit it" I whined. He laughed.
"I like you" he said before turning and facing the teacher who'd just walked in.
I looked down, feeling my face heat up. Did he just say he likes me?
Third person POV
"Austin, hurry up. We have to be home before the kids" Ally said, rushing her husband as they were busying themselves around the studio.
"I don't see what y'all care about" Trish snorted from a cushioned chair in the corner. "My kids don't care if we're home when they get done with school. They enjoy the house to themselves."
"You let your eleven and eight year old kids stay home alone!?" Ally screamed at her best friend. She would never think of doing something like that.
Trish rolled her eyes. "Ally, I'm not stupid. Maddie's there most of the time. They just like their half of the house to themselves."
That was the thing about their family. Austin's old mansion was still occupied by both Maddie and Dez, along with their families. However, now they split the place into two halves, so it seems like two different places. Maddie's family lives in the lower portion of the place, and Dez's family lives in the upper portion.
"So you let them stay upstairs by themselves?" Ally asked, putting a hand to her face.
"Yep" piped up Dez from the sound booth where he was working on Austin and Ally's latest duet. "Sometimes they stay at the whole place alone if Maddie and them leave."
"Why would you do that?" Austin asked from where he stood, drowning half his water bottle in two gulps.
"We trust Bri" Dez said.
"Yep" Trish shrugged. "She may be young but she's a good kid. As long as it isn't just Lucas home alone, they'll be fine."
"Gosh, Austin we need to leave this room full of stupidity. I don't want you getting any ideas about how we raise our children" Ally said grabbing her purse and shoving everything of hers she saw inside.
Austin laughed. "Yep, come on crazy. We'll see how our kids dealt with the day."
When Austin and Ally got home, Ally checked her phone. She had a few texts from Maddie and Aunt Claire, all about the kids.
Emma's doing great. Evan has some problems.
-Maddie
I think your son is a bit nervous today.
-Maddie
Ella says she's not having boy troubles, she's having Toby troubles ;)
-Maddie
Jealous alert
-Maddie
Ella's an angel in my class.
-Claire
I'm gonna kill my son
-Claire
"Okay, sounds like a lot happened today" Ally laughed nervously as she showed Austin the six texts on her phone. Austin laughed. "How close do you think Ella and Toby are?"
"To a relationship?" Austin asked. Ally nodded. "Very close, I unfortunately believe."
Ally smiled, but didn't respond because she could hear the kids approaching.
As soon as the door opened, Ally put on her Mama smile. "Hey guys, how was your first day?"
"Thank God it's over" Evan cheered as he rushed up the stairs and slammed his bedroom door. They could hear the lock click seconds later.
"I'm tired. Don't bother me. I'm not in the mood" Ella said, rushing up to her room and slamming the door as well.
Ally blinked in confusion and Austin looked towards the stairs with wide eyes before they turned towards their last child. Emma beamed up at them, unlike her brother and sister.
"I had the most awesome, beyond awesome day ever! Thank you guys so much for letting me skip a grade" Emma smiled and hugged both her parents before literally skipping over to the stairs and rushing up in excitement.
They turned to Toby for an explanation as he walked through the door, but he just looked as confused as they were.
"I thought everything would be normal when I got in the car, but as soon as the doors opened, everything turned crazy. Evan was an anxious basket case all day, Emma was all jittery and happy with a weird smile on her face the whole car ride, and Ella….well, she's just plain confusing. Let me know if you figure anything out" Toby said shaking his head as he walked up the stairs, towards Ella's room.
Ally turned towards Austin, and they both burst out laughing. "Well that was interesting" Ally said.
Austin nodded. "Let's just see what tonight brings."
Hey guys, so, so, so, so sorry for the long wait! High school is literally going to kill me. I swear, I didn't think it would be this hard, but I'm literally up past midnight every night with homework and I still have to finish it throughout the day before each class. And did I mention I'm grounded from all my electronics, books, and writing until I finish all homework every afternoon? Yeah. That's why I didn't update.
But I'm back now, so for those of you who are still reading this, I'd like to thank you. I have a good feeling about where this story is going, and I hope you guys do too. So a lot happened. Ella's jealous of Toby's new friend. Emma is upset about Riley being a nonbeliever. Emma meets Collin. What is to happen from then on?
