Chapter 14 – Problems With Percy

Reyna POV

I wake up in a small room sitting in a metal chair. I look around in confusion. You know how sometimes you wake up in a strange place and it takes a second of disorientation to remember where you are? Well, that's what I feel like, except I don't remember where I am no matter how much I try. The last thing I remember is waiting for Annabeth to show up for our meeting.

Looking around the room, I see nothing but a card table, a fold up chair and Jason. I frown. Possible reasons that someone might want to kidnap a praetor and her former partner are already racing through my head.

The door slams open and I flinch at the unexpected sound. I hear someone giggling quietly. I turn around to glare at the culprit, who turns out to be a short blonde girl. She sits down in the empty chair on the other side of the table and sets down a laptop.

"I'm Lacey." She tells me happily, holding out her hand. I stare at her like she's crazy, which she is. I'm almost certain that she was the one who kidnapped me, so why is she acting so friendly? Is this some new kidnapper protocol that I don't know about?

"Reyna…" I introduce myself unsurely.

"Oh, I know." Lacey says, smiling like that's a perfectly normal thing. I look over at Jason, wondering if he thinks this is as weird as I do. If the expression on his face is any indication, he is.

"Why did you kidnap us?" Jason asks her.

"Well, the reviewers wanted to ask you guys questions. So I capture you and interview you using their questions. Sounds fun, right?" Lacey tells him.

"There are more of you?" Jason says, sounding horrified.

"You say that like it's a bad thing." Lacey sounds genuinely confused.

"So, what kind of questions are you going to ask?" I wonder.

"You're right, Reyna. Now that introductions are over, we should get to the interview. Our first reviewer is Poseidon and Nike. Jason, they want to know what your cover up story is for the scar from when you tried to eat a stapler." Lacey says.

"Hey! Not so loud! Reyna doesn't know about that!" Jason hisses.

"You tried to eat a stapler?" I ask.

Jason groans and buries his face in his hands. Lacey smirks and her eyes light up. I recognize the look. The one time that I visited Camp Half-Blood after the Giant War, two brothers gave me that same look right before they pranked me. Lacey is planning trouble. But this time, I'm not going to be the one who ends up getting covered in shaving cream.

"You didn't tell her?" Lacey asks. "Now, what kind of Praetor doesn't tell their fellow Praetor that? No wonder you ended up staying at Camp Half-Blood." Jason glares at her and sits up straighter, attempting to preserve his dignity. I stifle laughter. I haven't forgiven Lacey for kidnapping me yet, but if she keeps this up I will soon.

"Well, our next reviewer is Lilith Jae. Jason, Percy says you look like a blonde superman when flying. What do you think you look like?" Lacey asks him.

"If it's a mortal watching me then I probably look like a paraglider or a-" Jason begins to tell her.

Lacey cuts him off. "I think they mean what you look like to someone who can see through the mist."

"I think I'll stick with a blonde superman because that sounds pretty cool." Jason tells her.

"Lilith also wants to know if you've figured out your true love yet." Lacey says. I force myself not to betray my embarrassment by looking down at my hands. She just had to remind about my attempt at a relationship with Jason. In my defense, though, when I liked him he didn't have a girlfriend and he hadn't been changed by the Greeks.

"Um…" Jason's cheeks are tinged pink. "I guess so. Oh, gods, that sounds bad. Don't tell Piper I said that." Lacey raises her eyebrows, but doesn't comment on his answer.

"Well, Reyna, Lilith asks you: How do you feel knowing both boys you ever tried to pursue already have girlfriends, but you don't have a boyfriend?"

Great, just great. "I really don't think about it much." I lie.

Lacey gives me a skeptical look. "And I really don't think about kidnapping people much."

"Fine. I guess it's kind of disappointing." I tell her.

"That's it?" Lacey asks.

"Hey, I gave you something. Now leave me alone." I said.

"Fine." She crosses her arms and huffs in annoyance. "Lilith's last question is for you, Reyna. What's it like being a praetor whose partner has changed three times in the last few months?"

"Well, it's strange. Normally a praetor will keep their position for a lot longer than just a few months. So all this shifting power is very untraditional. It's upsetting Octavian." I explain. Lacey chuckles at my last sentence.

"So, our next reviewer is LARRISSA-HAYLIE IS MI. She wants to know if Reyna would rather marry Octavian or Piper." Lacey says. I don't even have to think about the answer to that question.

"I'd marry Piper." I say, and then I add. "Sorry, Jason."

Lacey nods. "I don't blame you, Reyna. Octavian is pretty evil."

"Wait, how do you know Octavian?" I ask her suspiciously.

She shrugs. "I have sources." I glance over Jason. He looks as worried as I feel. I can't believe there are spies in Camp Jupiter.

"LARRISSA also wants to ask you if you'd name your future children Larrissa and Haylie." Lacey tells me.

"Well… I really haven't thought that far in the future." I give Lacey a weird look. "But they're nice names so maybe."

Lacey smiles at me. "All right. LARRISSA's last question is for Jason. If you were a female would you go out with Nico or Leo?"

"No." He says.

She frowns. "What?"

"I wouldn't go out with Nico or Leo." He explains.

Lacey laughs. "I don't think that's what she meant, but I guess that works as an answer."

"So, what's next?" I wonder aloud.

"Athena wants me to ask you to kiss." She says. I'm immediately sorry I asked.

"No." Jason and I refuse immediately.

Lacey shrugs. "Okay, then. Me2000 is our last reviewer. Reyna, she wants to know if you had a stuffed animal growing up."

"I had a stuffed jaguar, but Circe turned it into a real animal. I had to leave it behind when Percy set the pirates loose on the island." I say.

"That's so sad. Do you think it's okay?" She asks me.

"I'm sure it's still alive, hunting down other people's pets on the island." I answer.

Lacey rolls her eyes. "Of course. So, Jason, Me2000 asks if you've ever had feelings for Reyna."

"Um… not really. I mean, I could have but then Hera kidnapped me and…" Jason tries to explain awkwardly. Lacey snickers. Then she seems to realize something and she glares at Jason, muttering something about 'stupid people making my life harder'.

"That's a no… right?" Lacey asks unsurely.

I nod. "I'd take it as a no."

"Thanks, Reyna. Now, have you ever wished you weren't praetor?" She says, still talking to me.

I pause. "Yeah, whenever I have to deal with Octavian manipulating the people. He was really bad after Jason disappeared and I was the only praetor."

"Do you guys ever wish you weren't demigods?" Lacey questions. I nod for Jason to answer first.

"Only when I'm facing down a really bad monster." Jason tells her.

"Rarely. I've known I was a demigod for so long that I can't imagine any other life." I say.

Lacey nods like that makes sense. "Jason, what are your thoughts on Percy being stronger than you?"

"He's not stronger than me!" Jason argues.

Lacey gives him a skeptical look. "Please, Jason. We all know that's not true." Jason glares at her. "How do you feel about him being praetor?"

"It's fine, he saved Camp Jupiter. He deserved praetorship." Jason tells her.

"Do you like him as a person?" She asks.

Jason nods. "Yeah, Percy's great."

"What about the other Greeks?"

"They're great too." Jason says.

"So it's just Percy you have a problem with." She says.

"What? No! I don't have a problem with Percy!" He protests.

"Aha! You were defensive! That's a sign you're lying!" Lacey cries, pointing accusingly at him. I sigh and burry my head in my hands.

"I'm not lying!" Jason tells her.

I roll my eyes. "So you guys disagree about if Jason has anything against Percy. Can you just move onto the next question?"

"You're right, Reyna… again. Me2000's next question is also for Jason. Do you still feel like Camp Half-Blood is enemy territory?" Lacey asks him.

"No. Camp Half-Blood is home now." Jason says.

"If you guys could change one thing, other than the upcoming war, what would it be?" Lacey asks us.

"I would change

"Reyna, have you ever had someone correct your grammar?" Lacey asked me.

I pause, thinking back. "Yeah, I have."

"So you haven't always been so uptight about everything? Amazing." Lacey says.

I glare at her. "Watch what you say."

"Moving on." Lacey announces quickly. "How old were you guys when you became praetors?"

"I was fifteen." Jason says.

"I was fourteen, almost fifteen." I tell Lacey.

She makes an impressed face. "Wow. So, how old were you when you joined Camp Jupiter, Reyna?"

"I was twelve." I answer.

"Alright. And now, Me2000's final question, which also ends our interview, is for both of you. How much do you hate this?" Lacey asks us.

"A lot." Jason grumbles.

"It's okay. For a kidnapper, you could be a lot worse." I say evenly.

Lacey places a hand over her heart. "Thank you Reyna, that means a lot to me." I frown. Is she tearing up? Oh gods, she is. Why did I have to get kidnapped by such a weirdo? Lacey snaps out of it suddenly and says, in her best announcer voice. "Thanks for reading. Options for what can happen next chapter are posted below."

Jason gives her a weird look. "Who are you talking to?"

"My reviewers." Lacey tells him proudly. Then her face turns solemn. "Now, I'm going to teach something very special. Something that you must always remember for as long as you live because it is very important."

"…. Okay?" Jason says unsurely.

"Repeat after me:" She instructs. "R&R"

"R&R" He repeats.

"Great, thanks Jason. Now, for your options." Lacey says.
