I decided to write in the events of "Not Like This" into my story after a few of you suggested I do so; however like all of the storylinesI use from the show I changed it to fit the needs of my stories but of course given what happend I can't change everything; so this chapter has spoilers for "Not Like This" so if you haven't seen it and want to stay spoiler free don't read any further. This chapter is un-beta read due to real life (or should I say winter) circumstances; so any mistakes you see are mine.

Turnaround

"Auntie Gabby! Auntie Gabby! Auntie Gabby!" Ben ran into the house waving a piece of paper in the air, "Auntie Gabby!" He ran upstairs and straight into the nursery; practically knocking Lucas out of her arms, "Auntie Gabby!" He shoved the paper into her hands, "Look at it!"

Gabby chuckled at the young boys excitement; adjusting Lucas in her arms she took a closer look at the paper. It was his latest Science test. "A, B," She pulled Ben into a tight one-arm hug, "That's so great Ben! I'm so proud of you!"

Ben gleamed with pride, "Tyler gave me this!" He reached into his backpack and pulled out a packet of stickers.

"Well that was nice of him."

"He came to my class while we were packing up," Ben continued, "He told everyone he was my friend. I have an 8th grade friend. That's so cool!"

Gabby was very, very impressed she didn't know of many thirteen year old boys that would not only buy stickers for the younger child they were mentoring and then bring it to their classroom.

"Auntie Gabby I want to call Uncle Matt and tell him!" Ben's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

"I think that's a great idea Ben. I'm sure he'll be very proud of you. Why don't we go downstairs and put this test up on the fridge. Then you can; look through some cookbooks and decide what you want for dinner."

"Oh boy," Ben smiled as he followed Gabby out of the room, "I saw Griffin and told him," He mentioned, "He was with Freddie and Carla."

"Yeah he's going over to their house to work on a project," She put Lucas in a baby swing and gently pushed him. "Here you go buddy," She pressed Matt's speed dial number on her IPhone and handed it to Ben.

"I was just about to call you," Matt's voice came on the line; he had obviously seen his wife's name appear on the screen.

"It's me Uncle Matt! And guess what?"

"Hm, you got signed to the Chicago Blackhawks?" He joked.

"No!" Ben laughed.

"Oh man, I was hoping that was it."

"Uncle Matt.," Ben laughed and then turned serious, "I got a B on my Science test."

"A B! Man that's great Ben. I'm so proud of you. You worked really hard for that."

"I did," He smiled, proud of himself for getting such a good mark.

"Yeah and I was going to make it a surprise for tomorrow but I got you, me and Griffin really good seats to a Blackhawks game for next week. What do you say? Do you think you want to come this time?"

"Yes!" Ben nodded eagerly.

"Alright, that's my boy; now is your Aunt around."

"She's playing with Lucas."

"Can you bring the phone to her. I want to talk to her."

Ben walked over to the baby swing and sat down beside Gabby and handed her the phone.

"Thanks Ben," She stood up and began talking to her husband.

"Uncle Matt's the best," Ben spoke to Lucas, "You're lucky to have him as a Daddy. My Daddy died and I was mad at Uncle Matt for a while but I'm not anymore. Griffin said he'd never replace Daddy; and I agree but I think he's a good Daddy-substitute.

Lucas gurgled and spit up a little.

"It's like when you have a substitute teacher," Ben continued, "You miss your real teacher and want them back; so you miss them for awhile but by the end of the day you like the substitute teacher too."

"You should hear what Ben's telling Lucas; it's really sweet," Gabby whispered from the kitchen not wanting to make Ben aware she was listening. "He told him that you're a good father and he basically said that even though he missis Andy and whishes he hadn't died he's glad you're kind of like his father now."

Lucas started crying and Ben stood and tried to lift his god-brother out of the baby swing, "It's okay Lukey," He made his best attempt at soothing.

"Ben, Ben! I go him buddy," Gabby rushed over and took her son out of Lucas arms and cradled him with one hand while se held the phone with the other.

"Maybe he wants to hear Uncle Matt's voice," Ben suggested.

"Yeah maybe," Gabby pressed speaker button and held the phone in the palm of her hand, "You're on speaker phone." She informed her husband.

"That's good to know,"

Lucas reached for the phone and touched it.

"I think Lucas is trying to figure out where your voice is coming from," Gabby lightly chuckled, "He looks kind of confused."

"Yeah?" Matt also chuckled, "I know you want to see me bud; I wish I could see you too but Daddy has to work."

"Hey Casey, dinners ready," Shay's voice could be heard.

"Auntie Leslie! Guess what?"

"What Ben?" Shay's voice became clearer and Gabby figured Matt had opened his office door and let her in.

"I got a B on my Science test! And Auntie Gabby is going to make me anything I want for dinner!"

"A B! Wow that's great Ben; you know I bet everyone else would be really happy for you. Mind if I tell them?"

"Can I? Can I?"

"You want me to go into the common room so you can tell everyone?"

"Yes please,"

"Okay Ben," Matt stood, his IPhone in his hand as he walked with Shay into the common room, "Hey everyone, Ben's on speaker phone and he has something he'd like to tell you. Go ahead Ben."

"I got a B on my science test!"

A round of applause sounded and soon Matt's phone had been confiscated by Severide.

"Hey bud; you know what a B deserves?"

"What? What?"

"I think a B deserves a visit to the fire academy. I know a few guys there and I'm sure you could get a tour, see how fire fighters learn everything? What do you say?"

"Can Griffin come?"

Severide hadn't thought of that possibility but he wasn't going to tell Ben he couldn't invite his brother, 'Sure Griffin can come if he wants to. If it's alright with Gabby and Matt maybe Leslie and I can take you two this Saturday."

"Sure, that sounds like fun," Gabby spoke, "We'll have to talk later and figure out a time."

"Sure," Kelly handed Matt's phone back.

"Hey babe," Matt took the phone into the hallway.

"Hey."

"I miss you;"

"Miss you too. I have to go, I need to get dinner ready."

"Okay, bye, love you."

"Love you too," Gabby said before she hung up the phone, "Come on Ben lets go see what we can come up with for dinner," She held her hand out.

"Okay Auntie Gabby," Ben took her hand.

"Auntie Gabby!" Griffin sped walked into he house followed by Antonio.

"She's feeding Lucas in the nursery," Ben informed his brother as he continued to pack his backpack for school the next day.

"You two stay here," Antonio told the boys as he headed upstairs.

"Why does Antonio look upset?" Ben asked. "Did you do something to Carla?"

"Not now!" Griffin hushed him as he sprinted towards the staircase, "I want to hear what Antonio's telling Aunt Gabby."

"Why?"

"Because he got a call from Aunt Leslie and then rushed me here. Something bad happened."

"To Uncle Matt?" Ben's eyes began to fill with tears as the door to the nursery opened and Antonio stepped out glaring at the boys.

'What did I tell you?"

"Did Uncle Matt die? Tears filled Ben's eyes.

Antonio took the boy into his arms, "No, nothing like that; he was just in a little accident."

"How little?" Griffin raised an eyebrow.

"Look…." Antonio rubbed his chin, "Matt…."

"You can tell them Antonio," Gabby walked out of the nursery, her entire body shaking.

Antonio wrapped his younger sister in a hug and then turned to look at both pairs of scared eyes staring at him. He gulped, he imagined it was his kids and GAabby or Laura having to tell them he was seriously injured.

"There was a building that was burring really bad an your Uncle went to look for a baby; a little baby just like Lucas. Only before he could get the baby out safely a beam fell on him and it hurt his head. He's in surgery now; I'm going to take Gabby over to the hospital and Aunt Leslie is coming here to stay with you boys.

"I want to come with you," Griffin spoke strongly, "Please let me come."

"Griffin it could be a long night."

"I-I- don't care! I didn't get to see my dad after he died! I don't want to loose Matt and not be able to say goodbye!"

"Antonio let him come," Gabby wasn't in the mood to fight with the pre-teen.

"I want to look after Lucas," Ben walked into the nursery and sat on the floor and watched his god-brother sleep in his crib, "I'll sleep in here with him tonight so he's not alone."

"That's very sweet of you Ben," Gabby kissed the top of his head, "I'm sure Lucas appreciates it I know I do and I know Uncle Matt does too."

Ben stood up and hugged Gabriela tightly, "I don't want Uncle Matt to die!" He sobbed.

"Neither do I." Gabby hugged him tightly, "Neither do I."
