Chapter 14
"Hmm, that's certainly a lot to take in." James commented, as he placed a hand underneath his chin.
The brunette nodded in understanding before she replied back with, "Yes, I am certain that hearing such a long story would be a bit unbelievable. But I must ask how did you survive all of these years. Even Fox as times doubted if you were truly alive. Although whenever I looked into his eyes I could tell he was hoping you errr still among the living."
Hearing this questioned prompted a light chuckle to escape the brown and white furred anthro fox's lips before he told her, "Yes, I suppose it's only fair for me to tell you how I am still alive. Especially since you took the time to tell about what my son as been doing up until now." The former leader of Team Star Fox closed his eyes while he went on with, "Now let me see..you were already told by Fox of how his mother was killed. You also already know how I was "presumed" dead. So I will start from there since that report was somewhat truthful since I was badly injured and thrown into a cell as Andross's prisoner." James reopened his eyes and had a very serious look on his as he continued his story, "In truth though I guess I should have been dead. But I never let myself give into death since I knew I had to get back to my son. And so when none of the guards were around I broke out of my holding cell and took flight within my Arwing." A sigh left his lips when he kept on going with, "Unfortunately it seemed that Andross knew that I was going to try and escape from his base. And so he sent out a mercenary team which he had hired to put the upcoming war in his favor. This other team was known as Team Star Wolf, and they had caught up to me after I had entered the solar system. My ship took even more damage then what it already had thanks to them. And yet the leader of the group Wolf O'Donnell decided to not deliver the finishing blow which would have had destroyed my ship completely." A smirk spread across the vupline's face once he had added, "I guess he assumed that I was already good and dead from their previous laser blasts to my ship. After their ships had left the opened area of space though I'm not completely sure what happened after that since I had already blacked out from my earlier injures."
"So then how did you end up surviving, Grandfather?" The princess asked with full interest in James's story.
"Well, when I woke up I saw a beautiful young woman in a light blue dress with long platinum blonde hair and light blue eyes greet me. And once I had took in my surroundings I realized that I was laying on top of a small area of grass. Interestingly enough the woman seemed to know what I was going to ask her as she told me that I was no longer in the endless space, but that I was now on her Observatory safe from harm." James explained, as he looked over at his granddaughter who had an expression on her face as if to tell him to keep going.
Before he could however, his attention was brought over to the Queen of Hyrule when she pondered, "James, forgive me for interrupting your story, but I must ask you something. Fox had once told me that when he had to escape from Andross's lair he was certain it was you who had guided him to safety. So my question is how were you able to help Fox in his time of need if you were on an Observatory?"
"Hmm, to be honest I was just about to get to that part. Because you see I did help guide Fox out of the base. But that was thanks to the magic the woman had used which let me appear to my son in the form of a hologram." The green eyed fox confessed, before he let out a sigh. He then went on with, "Once that had been done it took her and her companies quite a few years before my ship was completely repaired But when it was I noticed that I had stopped aging for some odd reason. And when I asked her of it she said that I had become like her which was that of an immortal. However, she explained to me that even though I would no longer age I could still be killed either by sickness or by any serious injuries. So after my ship was fixed making it look good as new I thanked her for everything she had done and headed back to the Lylat System where I lived out in the countryside. Or at least I was before I was forcibly taken prisoner and brought to this galaxy." A scoff left his lips before continued with, "And yet I did not know why I was brought here. Would you perhaps know why I am here, Your Majesty?"
"No, I am sorry James. But even I did not know what reason Ganondorf would have for bringing you here. And you needn't stand on ceremony with me." The noblewoman answered back, upon placing a hand underneath her chin. Once she had done this she added, "However, I am certain that everything will be made clear to us all soon enough. Until that happens I would ask that you help me protect my daughter since she is in possession of something that the warlock is trying to find."
"Hmm, I wonder what he could want from my son's daughter." James wondered, looking over at his granddaughter once more. Upon doing so he responded to the Hylian woman's question with, "Of course I will help you protect your daughter. Besides what kind of grandfather would I be if I didn't try to help you?"
Right after he had said this the older vulpine felt a pair of small arms try to hug him. And when he looked done he saw the princess was looking up at him with a big smile on her face as she thanked him with, "Thank you so much Grandfather. I hope that once this is all over you'll be able to stay with us at the castle for a while."
A gentle smile crossed the brown and white furred fox face as he wrapped his arms around the princess and replied, "Well I can't promise you anything Zelda. But maybe I'll be able to work something out with my son once he gets here."
Once those words had left his mouth though the four quickly turned their attention towards the doors to the room as they were opened to reveal Niel. And while James pulled his granddaughter protectively towards his torso the black furred fox calmly said, "I was ordered by my father to ask that the four of you follow me. I ask that you follow my orders since I do not really want to cause any serious harm to any of you."
