Lily busied herself for the next few days while she waited for Cato to regain consciousness. She fished and collected some berries, having also to venture back into the forest for some more leaves to change the old ones. It was on the third day when she was cooking some fish that he finally woke.
"Lily," She jumped in shock his voice, quickly putting the fish down and walked over to him.
"How do you feel? Can I do anything?" She said frantically sitting next to him.
"Water," He croaked, she reached over for her canteen and handed it to him, which he gulped down generously. "Where are we?" He said sitting up and looking around the dimly lit cave.
"A cave near the river." Lily said nervously, she wasn't sure how to act around him, she was relived he was okay but she was still mad that he had hurt her. "I brought you here when you stumbled onto the beach."
"Thanks," He said pulling at the bandages, she reached forward to stop him her skin tingling as their touch met.
"Let me have a look," She turned her gaze away from his piercing blue eyes. Pulling the bandages away, she removed the leaves. His stings were still red and tender looking. "How do you feel?"
"Hungry," He grumbled. Lily went back over to get the fish she was cooking and handed it to him before going down the river the collect some reeves. He was finished when she got back, he was just sitting there watching her. She sat down a little way away from him and started to weave.
"What are you doing?" He asked after a while of the two sitting in silence. Lily looked over at him and fought the urge to shiver under the intensity of his gaze.
"Weaving," Lily shrugged, turning back to what she was doing.
"How long was I out?" He asked, Lily had the odd feeling that he was trying anything to make conversation with her but she couldn't understand why, he was the one that ignored her after the night they spent together.
"Three days," she didn't look up this time just kept on weaving.
"Much happen?"
"No it was quiet," Lily looked up and sighed before continuing. "Glimmer and the boy from 10 died,"
"Glimmer died?" Lily watched his face curious to what he was feeling but like usual his face was blank and she couldn't read anything from it.
"Tracker jackers I guess," Lily shrugged. "I'm sorry she was your friend." Cato just nodded and silence fell between them again. The temperature dropped and Lily could see the sky darken outside, a few minutes later rain started to fall heavily, lightning flashed and thunder clapped loudly. Setting her waving aside Lily headed over to the back pack and pulled out the sleeping bag and throw it to Cato.
"I'll take first watch," She said before turning away from him.
"Lil, we need to talk about this." Cato said she could hear him struggling to stand up and she turned around to find him standing right in front of her, her heart thudded wetly in her chest.
"There isn't anything to talk about," She frowned at him not entirely sure where he was going with this. He had been the one who had ended things between them. What could he possibly want to talk about.
"So what we're going to pretend everything's okay?" He glared at her, she ducked her head avoiding his penetrating gaze.
"Well that shouldn't be too hard you're very good at pretending." She snapped going irritated.
"Damn it Lily, I never pretended with you!"
"Then why did you just ignored me the next day and told me it was all a mistake!" It felt good to finally have gotten it off her chest, her heart felt heavy and she felt tears in her eyes. She had fallen for him and fallen hard and he had just ripped it out from under her.
"Lily…" He sighed reaching forward and brushed some of her hair behind her ear, she shivered at his touch. The way he made her feel scared her a little, how could she feel something so strong for someone who hurt her so bad. "I never meant what I said to you, I ... you were…" He stumbled along his words, she knew how hard it was for him to say what he was feeling but she wouldn't let it go.
"Making this more difficult?" She sneered up at him.
"I didn't mean it Lily, is that what you want to hear" He snapped glaring at her with an ugly look on his handsome face. "I got scared, you were distracting me from focusing on what I've been taught my whole life. I never expected to care about you the way I do. Is that what you wanted, me to show you how weak you've made me?" He turned away from her and she glared at his back.
"Weak!" She demanded. "Feelings don't make you weak Cato! They make you human which is what we all are!"
"My feelings for you do make me weak! Damn it Lil don't you get it you are my weakness! If something were to happen to you I don't know what I'd do! I'd die protecting you Lily and that scares me!" He was panting when he finished shouting at her. Her breathing stopped as his words seemed to sink in and then her heart increased, as he cupped on of her cheeks and leaned in his lip grazing her own softly. Butterflies erupted and were fluttering around in her stomach as she gazed into his dreamy blue eyes. "I love you." It was barely a whisper, before he crashed his lips on to her own and kissed her with more passion then she ever thought possible. Kissing Cato always took her into a whole other worldly experience. It was a battle of dominance as he deepened the kiss taking her fully into his arms.
