I don't own glee..sigh
This story will have minimum twenty chapters possibly more; I do want to get through his first year of life at least.
Blaine was pacing back and forth in the living room again, this time the child in his arms was hot to the touch with a fever. He had walked up and down the stairs three times trying to get Kurt to wake up. But between Christopher's crying and him trying to find the thermometer he just didn't have a good opportunity to wake him up. When pacing the living room, he'd stripped Christopher to his diaper; Christopher threw up all down the front of Blaine. He lay the baby down on the couch and tore his shirt off and picked up back up, wiped him off and ran upstairs to Burt and Carole's room. He started banging on the door, it may be four in the morning, but no way was he just walking into their room unannounced. He heard shuffling and mumbling from behind the door before it opened and Blaine was in near tears as he stared at Carole. She walked forward and took Christopher, feeling his heat looked back at Blaine.
"He's burning up, he just threw up all over me, and I can't get Kurt to wake up..I can't find the thermometer...I'm just so-", he was cut off by Carole.
"Its okay sweetheart, he probably just has a bug, but because of his age, and the fact that he's a preemie we have to take him to the ER okay?"
Blaine nodded, "what about Kurt?"
Carole smiled, "Burt honey, can you go wake up Kurt?"
Burt smiled, "I'm on it!"
Blaine looked at Carole amused, "did I just do something to cause Kurt to be mad?"
Carole laughed, "he'll be fine, now go get dressed, I have another thermometer up here I'll hold him for you till you come back."
Blaine practically ran down the stairs just in time to see Burt pouring a glass of cold water on Kurt's head, Blaine winced.
Kurt sat straight up in shock, "what the hell?"
"Good you're up, your son is sick; we are taking him to the hospital. Blaine couldn't get you awake so I used my old standby", Burt laughed, "get dressed we're leaving in ten minutes".
Burt walked up the stairs as Kurt turned to Blaine who had his hand over his mouth trying to contain the laughter.
"Based on the circumstances you get a pass this time, but next time you're mine!" Kurt got up and went in the bathroom to get ready.
"I'm looking forward to it", Blaine hollered after him.
Blaine grabbed Christopher's diaper bag, making sure everything was in it, he grabbed a onesie and a blanket, he didn't want to risk making him over heat with his fever. Kurt came out five minutes later with a pair of plain jeans and a t-shirt on. Blaine was stunned, Kurt rarely left the house looking nothing less than perfect, not saying he didn't look lovely right now..he just realized that Kurt didn't care because he was more worried about his son. That thought made him smile, "let me put my clothes on, go get Christopher, Carole has him."
In two minutes Blaine was running up the stairs, walking into the living room glancing in the kitchen as Kurt got a few bottles ready to take with them. They all piled in Kurt's car, which happened to be the biggest, and headed for the hospital only a half an hour after Blaine woke everyone up.
Kurt was a mess at the hospital; it brought back too many bad memories. Blaine was the one who held Christopher when they gave him an IV for fluids; he had already thrown up two more times. He held him when they drew blood, took x-rays, and he was the one who went back and held their son down for a spinal tap to rule out meningitis. Kurt was there, but just wasn't strong enough to help, he was just too distraught watching his son with the wires on him again. An hour later they sat there, with now a quiet Christopher asleep on Blaine's chest, him rubbing small circles on his back. Kurt had calmed down now, as the doctors had assured them they'd ruled out anything serious. He got up and walked over to Blaine and kissed his gently, then did the same to their son.
"You were amazing today Blaine", Kurt said softly.
Blaine shook his head, "I just did what I needed to do, he needed me, and you needed me."
Kurt smiled, "told you we'd be alright".
The doctor came in and told them he had a virus, and to give him plenty of fluids, which is just formula. To keep an eye on his temperature, and bring him back if he gets worse; otherwise to follow up in two days with his pediatrician. They were all quiet on the way home, any thought of going to school that day was gone, it was nine by the time they got home. Burt turned around once they reached the house, he besides Blaine were the only ones allowed by Kurt to drive his car. Burt nudged Carole who turned around too; both boys were passed out cold, both holding one of Christopher little hands in theirs.
Burt got out and opened one of the doors and pulled Kurt out, Carole sitting there with Blaine and Christopher until Burt got back. Burt carried Kurt downstairs and pulled off his shoes and tucked him in bed. He walked back out to the car, and pulled Blaine out while Carole got Christopher. He put Blaine in bed beside Kurt; he leaned down and kissed both their heads. He sat up the co-sleeper beside their bed and placed a sleeping Christopher, who looked an awful lot like his sleeping daddies, in it. He knew being sick that his daddies would want him close. They quietly left the room and went back upstairs and back to bed. Once in their room Carole turned to Burt smiling.
"What", he asked.
"I'm just so proud of Blaine today; he was there for Christopher and for Kurt. Any worry I had about how he's doing now melted away. They are going to be okay Burt, they are really going to be okay', she said smiling.
Burt lay down beside her yawning, "I always knew they would be they've already figured out that when one is weak the other is strong. They love and take care of each other and the baby. Sometimes I forget they both are just seventeen."
Carole agreed, "having a baby makes you grow up."
"Yeah but, going through all they went through, makes you grow up fast too."
Carole smiled, "you know the more time goes on the more Kurt is like you, which makes me know Christopher is in wonderful hands."
Burt leaned over and kissed her, "you are an amazing woman you know that?"
She just laughed as they snuggled closely, both too tired to change into their pajamas again.
Carole wrapped her arms around Burt as they drifted off to sleep.
