The next month or so flew by for Beca, she hadn't done much other than hang out with Jesse and spend more time with Stacey. Her and Stacey were still platonic, but Beca knew she would be lying if she didn't admit that the two had a chemistry with each other.
"It's weird isn't it...?" Jesse mused as he and Beca dove into their lunch.
"What is?" Beca asked without looking up from her fries as she smothered them in ketchup.
"The fact that prom is 2 days away and you haven't spoken to Chloe, like at all" Jesse casually observed as he began to chew his burger.
Beca's eyes shot up to her best friend
"Excuse me?"
"I said it's weird that-"
"No dipshit I heard you, I just don't know why that information is relevant"
Realising his mistake Jesse quickly tried to avert the conversation into a different direction before being interrupted by Beca.
"I just don't understand why you would even mention her, like you said it been over a month, I don't need to be hearing about her"
"Okay, okay I get it Becs, no Chloe talk" knowing Beca was in full defence mode, Jesse knew the best thing to do right now is to leave any Chloe talk alone.
The day Beca had been dreading had arrived, it wasn't that she completely hated the idea of going to prom, but the only reason she is even making an appearance is because Stacey is her date.
Was she a date? Or friend? Beca had been back and forth with this question, was she attracted to Stacey? Yes, did they get on? Of course, Beca loved spending time with her. She just knew something was missing, but didn't want to think about what it was.
"I swear I wish I wore a fucking tux, I look like an idiot in this" Beca fumed as she stared into her full length mirror, while Jesse struggled with his tie behind her.
"Oh shut up, you know you look hot in that dress. What time are we picking up Stacey?"
"Um around 7, SHIT I don't even have her corsage ready"
Without saying a word Jesse held up two corsages with a grin emerging on his face.
Beca took a deep breath and muttered a small thank you to Jesse, as she took Stacey's flower from his grasp.
"Right" Jesse clapped his hands together "Are we good to go?"
Beca turned back around to face her mirror, staring at her long royal blue dress and her curls that cascaded down it.
She knew she was ready to go, she even still had her ear spikes in. She promised herself that for tonight she would try to enjoy herself, and give Stacey the proper chance she deserves.
With a nod the brunette turned back round to face Jesse with her trademark smirk
"Let's fucking do this".
Beca picked up Stacey first, as soon as the door opened Beca was floored by Stacey's beauty, she was wearing a red dress that fit her in all the right places.
"Stace, you look amazing" Beca admired as they walked towards the car.
"Wow was that a straight up, non-sarcastic compliment off Beca Mitchell?" Stacey teased nudging Beca.
"Thanks, you look stunning Beca, you're gonna have to be prepared for some series PDA off of me tonight I'm afraid" she winked at Beca as she ducked into the awaiting car.
Beca was grinning to herself at Stacey's flirty antics, hoping that tonight could well be their night.
The music was loud and of course every person from the student body were all in attendance. Even the people who would despise coming to social events were here.
The brunette spotted Aubrey with her gaggle of followers surrounding the blonde as always, Beca had been keeping a low profile from the blonde demon after their run-ins.
Beca quickly poured some vodka into her punch, her and Jesse had snuck in some vodka, just to make sure they had a buzz incase the actual punch there hadn't been spiked by someone already.
"Becs come dance with me" Stacey asked with a pet lip, hoping to evoke Beca into feeling sorry for her.
Beca glanced over at Jesse and his date, they both seemed completely submerged in each other. Downing the rest of her cup, Beca placed it down on the table before grabbing Stacey's hand and leading them to the dancefloor.
The songs being played were still up-tempo, thinking to herself, how glad she was that she had brought some vodka, Beca began to enjoy herself, her and Stacey dancing and laughing to every song that came on.
Beca glanced over to the DJ as she admired his set, before her eyes could even reach the DJ, they were met with red hair.
Her stomach dropped as she stared at the red head, laughing and joking around with her arms around Brad's neck.
She looked like she was having an amazing time, this only gave her more reason to focus on her night, her night with Stacey.
"Hey, what's going on? You look a little lost?" Stacey leaned over into Beca's ear to say.
"Sorry, just feeling a little buzzed at the minute, I'm having such a good time with you though. Did I ever thank you for asking me here?"
"Guess you just did" Stacey replied as she smiled at Beca adoringly.
"I know you're always lost in your head Beca, I think I understand why to be honest. But I've got to be honest with you here…I like you. More than just a friend, and I know that's such a cliché thing to say, but I just think-"
Before Stacey could finish her sentence Beca had closed the gap between the pair, Beca knew that Stacey was putting herself out there, and she wanted her to know that she isn't the only one feeling this way.
Stacey seemed surprised by the kiss at first, but was soon reciprocating the kiss eagerly, until eventually the pair pulled apart.
"Whoa, Bec that was…"
"Really nice" Beca jumped in before Stacey could continue, nice being the only word Beca could use to describe it right now.
Smiling at each other the pair were grinning, both knowing that the tension between them had finally been set free.
"I'll be back in 2 minutes, just got to use the rest room" Beca explained as she pecked Stacey's cheek before making her way through the crowd.
Finally reaching the door Beca swung it open, only to find one other person in there.
Of course it is her, it had to be, Beca thought to herself.
Chloe was looking in the mirror applying some lipstick, as soon as Beca took another step forward Chloe's eyes shot to the brunette.
The ginger brought her lipstick away from her lips and looked into the reflection at Beca, who had come to a halt as soon as the pair had locked eyes.
"Chloe…" Beca spoke lightly, that's a start, she thought to herself.
"That's meeee! Hi Beca? Becs? Or is it shawwwwtyyyy" Chloe slurred.
"Errrrrmm...are you shit faced right now?" Beca had seen Chloe drunk before, but this was a whole new level of drunk.
"Oh shit it's the drink police, hahaaaaaa. Seriously Beca, when did you become such a stiff?"
"What the hell is your problem, I just came in here to pee and you're giving me shit"
"So pee then!" Chloe shouted back at Beca.
The brunette was still stood frozen as she watched Chloe wobble and stumble over her words, she had never seen the red head speak like this.
"Just calm down okay, maybe you should go get some water" Beca suggested to Chloe.
"Oh don't act like you care now! I haven't existed to you for the past 2 months, and now you want to help me? Do me a favour Beca and leave me the hell alone. You know…like you have been doing"
Beca couldn't believe what she was hearing, how had Chloe turned this around on her so she was the bad guy all of a sudden.
"Just get your shit together red"
"DON'T you dare call me that!" Chloe fumed as she marched closer to Beca pointing in her face.
"You don't get to call me that, you cut me out of your whole fucking life, so no. I'm not red, well I'm not your red anyway"
Beca tried to mask the hurt she was feeling, she knew it was the booze talking and not Chloe, but still speaking to her after all this time and it going down like this was killing her.
"You know what, you're right. You're Chad's red, I get it. You know I had a damn good reason to distance myself from you. I didn't even want to get into this, whatever, have a good night Chloe"
Beca decided she would pee later when the coast was clear from any red heads, before she left the door Chloe shouted over to her.
"Oh I'll have a good night don't worry, me and Brad are making sure we both have a good night"
Beca scrunched her eyes up at Chloe's words, determined to not let them affect her. She knew exactly what Chloe meant, and the thought of it made her stomach turn.
Quickly scoping out of the hall, Beca spots Stacey sat talking happily to Jesse and his date. Composing herself before she walked over, Beca decided to not even think about what just happened, and to still just try to carry on her night.
"Hey you" Stacey whispered into Beca's ear as she sat up from her seat for Beca to sit in, for her then to sit on Beca's lap.
Jesse looked over to Beca and gave her a questioning look, she knew Jesse could sense when something was off with Beca, but shot him her best reassuring smile for the time being.
"Oh it's being announced" Stacey excitedly said as she bounced up and down on Beca's lap excitedly.
The announcement of prom king and queen was among them, and of course as Beca predicted it was Brad and Chloe.
Beca watched as Brad pounded up to the stage excitedly flexing his muscles, really living up to the dick head status he had.
Still looking at the stage Beca noticed no sign of Chloe anywhere, obviously she wasn't alone in this as she noticed others also looking around.
The announcer once again called for Chloe Beale, but nothing.
"As if she is missing this! Where the hell is she?" Stacey questioned, both Jesse and his date shrugged their shoulders as the room eventually moved back onto the music.
Beca couldn't shake the bad feeling from her, after seeing Chloe so drunk to then be missing when they made her prom queen, topped off with the fact Chad was there. None of it sat right with Beca.
"Guys, I'm just gonna get some air, this vodka had gone straight to my head" Beca announced as she gently shuffled Stacey away from her lap.
Almost immediately Stacey sprung up from Beca's lap before replying to her
"I'll come with you"
"No no it's fine, honestly, I'm gonna be 5 minutes, then we can head off somewhere for something to eat or something?"
Beca hoped that Stacey focused more on the fact Beca had asked her to go with her somewhere after prom, rather than why she wanted to be alone right now.
"Sounds good with me, I'll just third wheel with these guys" Stacey smiled as she pointed towards Jesse and his date.
Beca nodded and noticed Jesse was giving her a look, he knew exactly where she was going and why she wanted to be alone.
With a subtly nod, Beca made her way outside.
She knew Chloe could be on her way home right now, or with someone else, but that didn't stop her from wanting to make sure she was okay.
She walked around the school grounds, before eventually plucking up the courage to reach for her phone out of her pocket and call Chloe.
She pressed call and waited for the red head to pick up, ringing out each time Beca tried 3 times to call Chloe. Each time it would ring and ring before going to voicemail.
Walking further up the road Beca spotted someone sitting on a bench, she couldn't tell any details about them at that point but thought it was worth a shot.
As she got closer, she could hear soft whimpers coming from the person, making sure she didn't creep up on some random stranger Beca took her time.
Thankfully as she was a few steps away the wind picked up, blowing ginger strands of hair into the street light. Beca would know it anywhere.
"Chloe…"
She froze, the whimpers suddenly stopping as she turned around to face the brunette.
"Beca?" she questioned as Beca slowly made her way to sit down next to her.
Chloe quickly tried to wipe away her tears, seeming ashamed of Beca to see her like that.
"Yeah it's me, where were you? What's going on?"
Chloe was silent, before letting out a tiny breath.
"I'm such a fuck up" she croaked out as the tears began to fall again.
"Hey hey, Chlo talk to me?" Beca again asked, by now she would have placed an arm around the red head but she just didn't know how to act in this situation.
Chloe looked up at Beca, pondering for a moment.
"Why are you even giving me your time Beca? I don't deserve it"
"Answer the question Beale" Beca slightly smirked hoping to lighten Chloe's mood, it must have worked slightly as a tiny smile appeared on her face.
"You know same old story, prom night, the guy wants to have sex, but the girl doesn't. Don't think Chad was too happy when I turned him down"
Beca tried to ignore the anger that was developing in her stomach towards Chad, she knew he was a dick and would end up hurting Chloe.
"Listen if he isn't willing to wait for you, then, fuck him. Seriously you deserve better than him 10 times over! I know I shouldn't be saying that, but seeing you crushed like this over him, it's killing me"
"He's not the reason I'm crushed Beca, I just…" Chloe trailed off mid-sentence, struggling for words.
"You don't have to explain anything to me, I just want to make sure you are okay" Beca reassured the red head.
Chloe smiled as she again looked over at Beca.
"What are you even doing out here?" Chloe questioned as she realised the pair were completely alone outside with the prom still going on.
"Would you believe me if I said looking for you" Beca quietly replied, she hated making herself vulnerable and being honest, but that was all she could be with Chloe. Honest.
"No" Chloe stated as she stood up from the bench "I don't believe you, because I don't deserve you to be doing that for me" she spoke looking into the distance.
Beca quickly joined her on her feet facing directly in front of her.
"Why would you say that?"
"I'm a horrible person Beca, we both know this"
"I don't, we've had our ups and downs Chloe, and you've hurt me so much. But I would never describe you as a horrible person"
Chloe stared into Beca's eyes as the tow stood in silence, both taking in each other's appearance.
"I'm so sorry Beca. For tonight, for the past two months just for everything. I know I've been an idiot, you just…I can't even describe what happens when I'm with you. God, you look so beautiful"
Beca's heart fluttered at Chloe's words, to hear those words being spoke off of Chloe made Beca's whole body go into meltdown.
"I've fucked it up…I'm a fuck up" Chloe stated, again tears falling down her cheeks.
This time Beca couldn't stop herself from enveloping the girl into her arms, as soon as Beca put her arms around her, Chloe reached out instantly tightening her grip around Beca's neck.
"Shhhhh, it's gonna be okay, I'm gonna take you home and make sure you're okay" Beca spoke softly into Chloe's ear as she carried on sobbing into Beca's neck.
"Beca?" hearing someone shout over her name, Beca gradually turned around to see Stacey standing at the end of the street looking at her.
Beca turned back around to see Chloe had removed herself from her and was wiping her tears away with the back of her hand.
Beca was now stood with Chloe next to her, who was looking her most vulnerable. Then to her other side, Stacey, waiting for Beca to follow up on her earlier plans with her.
Feeling stuck, Beca knew what she had to do.
