School went by quietly, apparently a lot of people had taken Alice's example and had defended me after I had fled the cafeteria. Apart from the usual snicker and glares from Jessica and her group of friends and followers, nothing really happened. I wanted to thank the gods that I'd left all the books that I needed in my locker, so I didn't have to go over to their table and ask for it. I didn't want to face them right now. I needed time. Even thinking about my revelations of last night made my head hurt.

I was talking to Angela when Angela glared uncomfortably at something behind me, she seemed to be scared. A shadow fell over me, turning around I saw the person I expected least, Rosalie Hale. My bag and jacket were dangling from her pinkie.

From the looks of it, she did not want to be the one bringing my stuff back, I looked at their table, but nobody was looking. Apparently, Angela had not been the only one to get uncomfortable by her presence because the entire cafeteria had gone silent as Rosalie opened her mouth.

'You forgot this at our place last night.' She said whilst placing it down gently into the free chair next to me.

I hadn't heard her voice yet, but as expected, it sounded beautiful and perfect. She smiled, which almost seemed to hurt her and turned around, swaying her hips. The entire room kept quiet until she sat back down, crossed her legs and arched an eyebrow at someone who was staring at her with his mouth wide open. Noise erupted once again and it was like nothing had happened, apart from Jessica, Lauren and Mike staring at me.

'I don't know what it is about her,' Angela started, 'but she scared me.' I nodded and heard a high pitch laugh behind me. Did they hear us?

Rosalie rolled her eyes as she said back down, it was like someone had pressed play again on a DVD player when noise erupted again.

'I still don't understand why I had to be the one to bring back her stuff.' She said whist scrunching up her nose.

'She would've likely caused a scene if it would've been me.' I said, 'plus, she's mostly intimidated by you.'

She rolled her eyes and grabbed Emmett's hand again.

'I swear to god, I only held her stuff in my hand for a minute and I can't get rid of her scent.'

Edward groaned and closed his eyes, his jaw was tense.

Edward didn't want to come to school today, but Carlisle had basically forced him. Telling him everything needed to look as normal as possible. Although I doubted normalcy, Edward looked like he was being tortured right now. But at least he was in control.

'Have you really not seen anything yet Alice?' Jasper asked.

'She hasn't made up her mind yet.' I simply answered.

Driving home went by quietly, I didn't want to listen to music, I needed peace. I sighed in frustration as I saw Jacob waiting outside. I liked him, but he wasn't my type and by the way he acted, I was sure that he liked me in a different way than I liked him.

I invited him in and made us a snack. He ate a sandwich whilst I had an apple. We talked for a while before the subject of the Cullen's came up.

'I heard what happened at school,' he said, 'nice of that Cullen girl to take care of you.' His mouth was still full with his food and grimaced at the sight of the shewed up sandwich.

'Yeah, she's nice.' I simply said, 'I'm sure Charlie told your dad about what happened?' I smiled uncomfortably.

'Those two gossip like old grandmas.' He laughed.

'I was happy for you but my dad was furious.'

'Yeah, it wasn't really nice of them to do that.' I said.

'No, I mean he was furious about the Cullen girl helping you. He still believes in these stupid old tribe legends.'

I frowned, 'tribe legends?'

He took another big bite and nodded, 'we have these old stories that people tell each other around camp fires, my dad still believes in them.'

'Can you tell me about them?'

'I don't know Bella, they are kind of weird and stupid.' He laughed.

I tried to smile innocently, 'You've made me curious, please?'

He looked at me hesitantly, 'You won't tell your dad right? He doesn't like it when my dad talks about the Cullen's.'

I just nodded at him.

He cleared his throat and sat up straight, 'there's this one story about the cold ones.'

'Cold ones? What do you mean with cold ones?' I asked.

'You can ask me again after the story.'

'Anyways, there are these stories of the cold ones, they are old wolf legends but some are also more recent. According to the legend, my own great-grandfather knew some of these cold ones. He was the one who made this treaty with them, so they wouldn't come on our land. He was the tribal leader, like my dad. These cold ones are called the natural enemies of the wolf, well not actual wolves but men turning into wolves, like our ancestors. You, would call them werewolves.'

My mind drifted for a second, werewolves? Really? Why would these "cold ones" be their natural enemy?

'You sure you want to hear this?' I nodded.

'Okay, so, the cold ones are traditionally our enemies. But his pack or as they liked to call themselves, family, came onto our territory during my great-grandfather's time. The wolves wanted to attack, but these cold ones claimed they were different from the others. They didn't hunt the way others of their kind did – they weren't supposed to be dangerous. They told them they didn't kill humans to fulfil their needs. So my great-grandfather made a truce with them. They would promise to stay on their side of the land, and we wouldn't expose them to the pale-faces.' He grinded at me widely.

'If they weren't dangerous, why did your great-grandfather made a treaty with them, instead of just letting them be?' I tried to sound as calm as I could, but on the inside I was screaming, could I be right about this? Had I really figured it out all on my own?

'There's always a risk for humans to be around cold ones, even as civilized as this clan was. You never know when they would walk into someone who they couldn't resist.'

'Why do you call them civilized?' I asked him.

'They apparently claimed that they didn't hurt humans, they hunted animals instead.' He explained casually.

'Hunting? Like vampires?'

'Yeah, something like that.' He said, scratching the back of neck.

'How does this fit in with the Cullen's?' I needed to know if my inklings were right.

He hesitated, 'My dad and his dad, believed that those legends were about the Cullen's.'

'Like their ancestors? I thought they just moved here from Alaska?'

'I don't know, I don't really believe those stories Bella.' He said, 'although the legend says there were less of them. In my great-grandfather's time they already knew the leader, Carlisle.'

I nodded, 'Lots of people are named after their father of grandfather, right?'

'Totally.' Jacob agreed awkwardly. He left shorty after.

I ended up pacing in the living room, almost biting my lip off in the progress. They had shown up to school, even Edward had. They obviously weren't running or hiding. Were they trying to look normal? I had seen Edward's pained face in the cafeteria. I couldn't just barge into their house and accuse them all of being vampires without it even being true. But I could at least try, they owed me that, right?

On a whim I climbed into my car and drove off with purpose, it didn't take me very long to find the exact spot which Alice had turned into, after a rather long drive on a dirt road, I saw their house.

EPOV

The school run had just been an act, as soon as we all came home everyone would resume the same position they had left in and just sit still, not moving the slightest inch, staring into thin air.

I felt empty inside, this was all my fault. We probably would have to move, I had ruined everything. I can't believe I almost attacked her. Carlisle had given me the advice to acclimate towards her smell. I had almost seemed like she had left her stuff at the house on purpose. I had spent the remaining time before school in my small room, surrounded by her stuff. He coat in particular, smelled divine. I didn't really know how well I could control myself after trying to get used to her mouth-watering scent. But somehow I did it, her scent hit me right in the face when I had entered the cafeteria, the wind was different today so it seemed like her scent was constantly following me around.

It had tempted me throughout the day, but I had been able to control the monster inside of me.

Alice gasped all of a sudden and her eyes seemed cloudy for a minute, I could see her vision playing inside her mind as well.

Bella walked outside of her house with purpose, opening her truck and slamming the door with force. Suddenly she was driving and she seemed to be in deep thought, she turned into the woods and followed the road towards our house. She stopped, climbed out, closed her eyes and took a deep breath before opening her eyes again.

The vision ended abruptly and Alice was beaming, everyone was staring at her, confused.

'Bella will be here, soon!' she smiled. 'I think within two minutes' she added.

I can't wait for her to come over, I'm so curious for what she'll say! Oh don't look at me like that Edward, I'm sure she'll forgive you, don't forget to apologize to her! – Alice

Hey Eddiekins, your girlfriend is coming over, do you think she'll be afraid of the big bad vampire?' – Emmett

He was also laughing out loud.

Poor child, I hope she's feeling better. – Esme

I sweat if this little human ruins our cover, I will happily kill her so we can go on with our lives. – Rosalie

You think she knows Edward?- Carlisle

'I don't know, I can't read her mind remember.' I whispered.

Just like the day before, her mind had been completely silent to me. I had never come across anyone, vampire or human, whose mind had been completely blank. It somehow stung, I couldn't bear not knowing what was going on in her mind. I'm sure things would've been different if I could've heard her mind. It had seemed too much like a hunt, where you can only smell your prey and not hear what it is thinking.

As Alice had predicted, two minutes later her old, rusty truck arrived and I waited in horror at what was to come. Nobody had any idea what would happen, but I was sure we wouldn't come out the same as before.

I don't know what's going to happen because she still hasn't made up her mind Edward. She doesn't seem to know what she's going to do or say yet. – Alice

Carlisle opened the door for her and she walked in without glancing at him, eyes on the floor but with purpose in her step. She looked terrible, I had noticed that she looked tired, but she looked worse now. She didn't seem to be sleeping well since she'd arrived in Forks. Her hair looked thinner, she had bags under her eyes and her lips were cracked and pale as well. Her skin almost had a greyish tone to it, I knew it was partly because of her malnutrition, but she looked different than she did last night.

She just stood there for a while, hands folded into tight fists next to her, eyes trained onto the ground before she looked up with a certain confidence about her. What I would give to be able to read her mind right now. She looked brave. Her heart was pounding loudly as she took a deep breath and said: 'I know your secret.'
