Lying down on the bed Luffy wondered how long it will be before he'll be able to share his bed. A ball of anticipation formed in the pit of his stomach, he couldn't wait. But he had to, good thing he knew it was worth it.
Luffy watched as the sights changed behind the dirty, bulletproof window. From the boring, half-standing facility that was half way through being demountable, to plain fields with something growing in them to occasional forests, villages and small towns. The scenery changed though the murky sky didn't, big grey clouds covered the sky threating to attack with rain.
But nothing could really depress or sadden Luffy right now, the little alien could barely contain his excitement for his destination.
Today was the day.
The day he was finally re-meeting his fated. After two months of not seeing him Luffy felt really lonely and couldn't bare being without Law anymore. But today it was finally ending…
(this line says: I demand attention as I change perspectives!)
Law sat on his big, cream white leather couch in his spacious living room by the window with a glass of wine in his hand and was looking through the wide windows that went through whole western wall of the room. His apartment – more like a penthouse, but he was a famous surgeon, he could let himself to have some luxury – was on top of a twelve storey high house and looked over the city quite well, giving a beautiful panorama at evenings.
Only it wasn't evening, and it was too early for wine. And the weather outside was terrible - strong wind only picked up in big heights making ghostly sounds as it broke down at the edges of the building, stormy, grey clouds covered the whole sky not leaving a patch of blueness.
The whole set seemed like from a horror movie.
Except that it wasn't something terrible that was going to happen, Law was tearing himself between loving and loathing the event that was happening today. Because Luffy staying with him for unknown amount of time, certainly seemed like an event…
Only the problem was that he wasn't sure if it was a joyous one or grim one. Well, it wasn't his only problem, it was his main problem, the problem of Law's attitude and how he should accept Luffy. Sure, the little alien was the most interesting thing that happened in his life since he got adopted, but at the same time he was second the most annoying person submitting only to his own adoptive father.
Trafalgar groaned; then why in nine circles of hell he found the alien adorable and the kind who just rubs off on you with time? Even through all that short time they spent together he managed to like the alien and even start to think of him as a friend.
And what was the most surprising of it all, was that comparing the three days that he spent together with the alien to two months apart he still felt close to the alien. Grounding on all logic he wasn't supposed to feel this way. His memories of Luffy were supposed to be blank, vague and barely important except for the part that he met an alien.
But that wasn't it. It seemed that simple ways of how brain works defied themselves when it came to Luffy. For some reason Law could recall each moment he spent with the small alien, not every word of course, he didn't have photographic memory.
Trafalgar sighed, it was too confusing for seemingly such a simple matter… The surgeon who currently was on vacation, because no way in hell was he going to leave Luffy in his apartment unsupervised, heard the doorbell ring.
This was probably it – or some of his friends decided to crash in his apartment to bring the mood up on such gloomy day. The tall male put the empty glass on the small coffee table and went to the door. Was it worth it? All those documents he had to sign? There probably was more of them then when one tried to adopt a child, and he should know, he was adopted, he remember how many times he saw his adoptive father read and sign contracts.
As Law unlocked and opened the door finding himself with an armful of Luffy he realized that yes, it was worth it. Because the satisfaction that spread through him with realization that Luffy still cares for him on some level made him feel relieved, happy and content. Without even realizing it he hugged the little alien back letting a delight laugh escape his chest as Luffy squeezed him. "Hello little alien."
Luffy lifted his face from where he had it buried in his shirt and for first time in two months Law saw his face. The same big brown eyes that seemed to shine brighter than any neon signs, that huge grin that could rival sharks', the delighted expression on Luffy's face as he chuckled. "I'm not that little and hello to you too."
Law was still smiling as he released Luffy from his embrace, stepping aside to let the smaller male into his apartment. "You're even shorter in comparison to me."
The alien grimaced, smile still on his face. "I would say you're a half giant, but I've seen those and unfortunately you're not even half their size."
That definitely caught the tattooed male's attention. "Giants? You have seen giants?"
The smaller male blinked and grinned. "Yes I did! And they're super awesome and have natural strength too! They can lift ships like they would be toys!"
Trafalgar led Luffy to his living room where both sat on the sofa. "Tell me more."
(this line was so bored it ran away!)
When Law wakes up next morning after reuniting with Luffy he feels weird, not weird, weird, but it was weird to feel like he felt just after waking up. He was content, fully content, like all life had a reason and meaning suddenly. And he felt peaceful too, as if he never in his life he had been annoyed or angry, he felt peaceful too.
It felt so good that it was weird.
Sure waking up was a pleasant experience as last bits of sleep left your fresh mind and your body livened up after a night of stiffness. But the way he was feeling now, well, it was on completely new Ievel!
Brushing off the weirdness of it all Law savored the feeling, getting up after the feeling faded away. He had a guest in a house after all and he had no idea about Luffy's sleeping habits, and from what he gathered on the shared meals they had Luffy ate a lot more than average person and the surgeon had a feeling to better start cooking now.
Half an hour later found Law sitting at the bar stool in his kitchen, eating omelet, another wide plate filled with omelet waiting for Luffy to come and eat it. And as if hearing a command steps could be heard coming down the stairs, an excited bundle of energy ran into the kitchen sniffing air like a puppy. Seeing the full plate he grinning he sat at the empty chair, took a fork and dug in.
Sitting there Law suddenly felt content and happiness fill him. He blinked several times, but the feeling stayed, turning his gaze at his house guest Law felt the feeling beat a little and excitement wash over him filling up his stomach and making it swirl in circles; what the hell?!
The grey eyed man sat there flabbergasted, what the hell was this feeling? It felt almost alien – excuse the pun – it was part of him, but somehow stretched out of his body like it wasn't part of him at the same time. That was definitely suspicious. Blinking Trafalgar focused at the feeling and tried following it, but just as he touched the thread with his mind it disappeared terminating the feeling. With the thread gone so was the feeling that washed over him – it was gone.
The surgeon wasn't sure what to feel, with the feeling gone he felt kind of hollow, like he was suddenly missing something, something important…
He was ripped from the strange daze when Luffy spoke. "Are you still eating that? Can I finish it?"
Law looked down at his half full plate and shook his head pushing the plate towards Luffy, who was sitting right in front of him. "No, I'm not hungry anymore, you can have it."
The smaller male grinned at him. "Yay! Thanks Traffy! You're the best!"
The taller man, leaned down on his hand and watched Luffy eat, he didn't understand the little alien at all, he was just an unknown x, he needed more information. "Tell me about your planet."
The smaller brunet swallowed his bite and made a thinking face, after a moment his face lit up. "You know, without the big major difference of how our planets look, there's also one more thing that from what we gathered you don't have on Earth – devil fruits."
"Devil fruits?"
"Yep, devil fruits, there's a legend about them it is said that devil fruits are reincarnations of Sea Devil and that once you eat it you gain a special ability, but instead won't be able to ever swim again, you will simply lose all energy in water and will sink like a hammer."
Law raised an eyebrow. "And they really exist?"
Luffy grinned. "Yes they do! I've actually eaten one!"
"Really and what special power did it give to you?"
A shit eating grin appeared on Luffy's lips as he took a piece of his skin and stretched it impossibly much. "I'm a rubber man, my whole body – all of it – is made of rubber, simple punches don't hurt me, my body repels bullets and I can stretch as much as I want."
Trafalgar stared at Luffy wide eyed. He abruptly stood up and quickly walked around the table and started stretching Luffy's body parts – cheeks, skin, fingers, head. "How? During our physical examination your skin definitely wasn't like this!"
The alien took something out of his jeans pocket and showed it to Law, he took it with a little hesitation, but as it did nothing he started examining it, it was a simple bracelet, only it seemed to be made of stone, which had greenish-metallic color. "What is this?"
"It's called Kairoseki, or sea stone, it's said that this stone contains the power of the sea, thus draining the energy of devil fruit users to a point where we can't use it. I was wearing this bracelet, so my powers were canceled out."
Law rubbed his chin stretching Luffy's cheek and leaning forward to inspect it from closer completely missing Luffy's blush. "So interesting." He released the cheek and looked over the alien. "Do all devil fruits do this?"
Luffy rubbed his cheek and shook his head. "Every devil fruit has a different power, mine was Gomu Gomu no Mi, once a person carrying the fruit's ability dies the fruit reappears somewhere in the world. There are three kinds of fruits: Zoan – which gives its user ability to turn into specific animal, Paramecia – gives the user various abilities from rubber body to being able to transform rocks to clothing. And last but not least – Logia fruits, these are rarer out of three, but for a reason, they are considered element fruits, they give you a power of an element: smoke, fire, ice, light - just name it. It doesn't just let you create it also makes your body consist out of it. It means if you possess Mera Mera no Mi you can make your body become fire."
Trafalgar's eyes were wide and his mind racing, trying to comprehend, to put every new piece of information into its places, change his view of the aliens a little. "Does everyone on the ship have a devil fruit ability?"
The smaller male shook his head. "No, it's quite rare in our world, but surprisingly a lot of us who came here have it: Ace, Marco, Kid, Lucci, Chopper, Brook, Crocodile and me."
"Whoa! Stop there, I haven't heard half of these names! You mean there was even more people in that ship then I've seen?"
Luffy nodded. "Yea, Crocodile and Lucci… are a bit weird let's say, they have this look about them that makes people be on edge, especially on first meeting so it wasn't a good idea to bring them out early. Brook and Chopper are a different story already… they, don't look normal, okay? Having devil fruits in our world led to lots of strange things such as almost conscious weapons to talking animals and skeletons!"
Law frowned. "Talking animals and skeletons? It seems like you're pointing that those two are exactly that."
The smaller brunet nodded. "They are, Chopper ate a fruit that gave him ability to talk, think and behave like human while Brook's devil fruit gave his soul ability to move, but he can't die. Once he died though – almost fifty years ago – and his soul wandered around until his body which by the time was only a skeleton…"
The tattooed male sat back in his seat. "Such interesting abilities…" He reached through the table, took Luffy's hand and stretched it to his face to inspect it from closer. "Theoretically a simple, mysterious, almost magical fruit gives his eater a power?"
Luffy took his hand back and gulped down the last spoonful of omelet. "Yes, it takes only one bite to gain the power and the remains of the fruit can no longer give you power. It also tastes like shit and eating a second devil fruit kills you."
Law raised an eyebrow. "Kills you?"
"Yes, you can't have two devil fruits because the 'two devils' kill each other, in return killing the eater."
"Truly, absolutely fascinating…" Law watched as Luffy stood up from the table putting the two empty plates in the sink, at that moment Trafalgar realized a detail he haven't noticed about Luffy changing – his clothing. He wasn't wearing the shorts he used to just after coming, nor there was his red cardigan, instead he changed into long blue jeans and red jumper, the coloring was the same, but clothes were definitely from Earth. "You changed your clothes."
The alien looked over himself. "Yea, it's already autumn here and I didn't have warm enough clothes for it, besides, Shanks said that with these clothes I will bring less attention to myself."
"Hmmm, well these clothes do suit you, is there anything special you want to do today?"
Luffy turned at Law with wide grin. "Well, I kept hearing about this thing called amusement park…"
A.N. Lame spot to end a chapter, I know… But at least it's long! -_-'
Either way, from now on my updates are gonna be even more far in between, because: a) for a week until September I'm babysitting my baby sister full time; b) Once September starts I also start school; and c) I'm starting to get ready for my birthday week. Some of you know, some of you don't – last year during the week my birthday was at (third week of September) every day I uploaded something. Well, I'm doing that again. There will be some old story updates, some new story publishing… all in all – every day I will add something to my OP story collection. Look forward to it! :}
