Our Story
Chapter Fourteen
The Sharpest Lives
Victoria Vega smiled and shook her head as she looked through her locker. Jade was stubborn though, and that stubbornness shocked her every week when they had this argument. "I don't like horror movies!"
"But I've watched your chick flicks-"
"You've laughed at my chick flicks." Tori reminded her.
"I just can't date someone who's never watched The Scissoring!" Jade said, slightly stomping her foot and shaking her hair out of her face. Tori couldn't help but notice how she always did this when she got upset, and Tori always found it distractingly cute-even at that moment. "Besides, we've been together for almost eight months and I haven't-"
"You've been counting?" Tori asked, slyly cutting her girlfriend off even though she was a little bit surprised. She didn't expect the West girl to be the type of girlfriend to keep up with how long they had been together.
"I-of course." Jade replied quickly and then blushed once she realized what she had just admitted to.
"I have seen it all!" Tori exclaimed. "I, Tori Vega, have made Jade West blush!" The hallway was full, so they got a few curious looks but not nearly enough for it to be embarrassing for either of the girls.
As Tori was opening her mouth to continue teasing the girl, Jade cut her off with a small growled, "Vega."
Tori grinned at Jade, shutting her locker. "The only way you'll get me to watch The Scissoring is if you trick me, and that wouldn't work."
"Is that a challenge?" Jade asked with sarcasm in her voice, but in her head she was actually planning on how to trick the Vega girl.
Tori sighed as she grabbed Jade's hand. "Let's just get to Sikowitz's class, okay?"
"Mm-hmm." Jade hummed, barely paying attention. She let Tori drag her to class and barely noticed when they arrived; she was far too lost in thought.
Tori had just sat down, sighing as she let Jade pick their seats, before she jumped up and started talking hurriedly. "Hey, hello, yo," Tori gasped, already almost out of breath. "Everyone, hey. Yo!" Her voice raised and she finally got everyone's attention.
"What's up?" Andre asked, turning slightly to face the exasperated girl.
"Shh! Before anyone says anything," She began, looking around the room at everyone, "I did not see the finale of American Voice last night."
"Oh, well-" Beck started to say before she shushed him.
"I recorded it. It's on my DVR, and I'm watching it as soon as I get home today." The Vega girl said, finally sitting back down in her seat.
"Okay, but-" Robbie tried to add, before she cut him off also.
"D'ah!" She ran her hand through her hair, looking at her friends with an almost desperate look on her face. "I've watched every episode this season for the past four months! So please, no one tell me who won last night."
"Will you watch The Scissoring with me?" Jade asked, looking up at Tori innocently.
Tori groaned, "No, but-"
"Sebastian won." Jade cut her off in an ironic manner.
"Ah dang it!" Tori sighed loudly.
"I'm sorry," Jade said, grabbing Tori's hand with a small smile-although it didn't have much sincerity in it. "Seriously, I just couldn't help myself."
Tori opened her mouth to reply, but before she could get a syllable out Cat burst into the room in a tiny redhead frenzy that only a Valentine could manage. "Oh, here I am!" The girl said with a giggle and a bright smile for everyone as she jumped up on the stage area of the class room. "How's everyone doing today?! Anyone wanna talk about what I'm wearing?" The girl said in a rush without needing to pause for a breath. "It's a Pajelehoocho!"
"A jelly-joo-ish-who-what?" Tori asked, leaning forward, accidentally causing Jade to do the same. The small redhead spoke far too fast for Tori to understand what she said.
"Pajelehoocho! They're pajamas! They're jeans! They're leggings! It's a hoodie! It's a poncho!" Caterina answered, striking a pose with every sentence to show off what she was talking about. "The Pajelehoocho!"
"I think I've seen the Pajelehoocho advertised on TV." Beck said, shrugging at his classmates.
"Yeah, I got the commercial right here." Robbie said, syncing his computer to the Pear TV at the front of the room. As soon as Cat walked in, he started looking up the commercial.
"Oh!" Tori said, leaning into Jade. "Cool!"
"Let's see." Jade's voice was low as she wrapped her arms around Tori.
"Do your clothes make you feel uncomfortable? Have you ever thought to yourself, 'Man, I wish I could wear something comfortable that'll make me feel normal and popular?'" The TV played, and a nerdy looking boy stood, agreeing to the narrator.
"That'll never happen." Jade muttered with a slight grin before Cat shushed her dramatically.
"It's a Pajelehoocho! They're pajamas! They're jeans! They're leggings! It's a hoodie! It's a poncho! It's the Pajelehoocho!"
The class looked back at Cat as the commercial ended, only to find she was bouncing up and down with happiness. "The Pajelehoocho! And, when I went online too, they said I could have free shipping if I bought 'a gross'." Cat smiled, giving air quotes to the last two words.
"Cat!" Jade shouldn't have been surprised, but Cat always did her best to throw the Goth off guard.
"That's one hundred and forty-four Pajelehoochos!" Andre looked at the redhead, completely dumbfounded.
"Free shipping!" Cat giggled, smiling innocently at the others.
Class was almost over and it was then that Sikowitz had finally gotten to his point. "See, the idea is, we all prepare a scene. Then we board a city bus and as we ride along, we perform the scene for the bus passengers! Heh? Huh?" The crazy teacher asked, looking at his students only to get looks of confusion.
"You want us to do a play for people who ride the bus?" Tori asked.
"In Los Angeles?" Jade seconded Tori in this, they both thought the idea was crazy.
"Sure! You'll see those bus passengers will thank us." Sikowitz replied, nodding his head happily.
"Yeah, by stabbing us with rusty scissors." Jade snorted, looking at Tori with the question 'is he real?' written all over her face.
"Wasn't he a famous clown?" Cat asked, looking up from her lap where she had been playing with her new outfit.
"I don't want to do a play on a bus." Andre ignored Cat, looking solely at his teacher.
"So none of you want to do live bus theater?" Sikowitz asked, getting up and looking at the students. At the sounds of negative replies, he started walking around, stroking his balding head in hopes for a new idea. "Ah! Then how about this," He said, leaning towards the students and his hands spread out in front of him as if the idea was tangible. "We all do the Broadway musical "Annie" underwater."
"I don't wanna do a play underwater." Cat muttered, not looking up from her Pajelehoocho.
"My skin will prune up." Tori agreed, nodding at Cat.
"None of us want to do a play underwater." Jade said, staring directly at Sikowitz.
"Or on a nasty bus." Beck sighed, leaning more into his chair.
"All right. I see. No bus play." Sikowitz said, walking around again. His voice was even and neutral. "No underwater musical. Why don't we just all lie on the floor and stick our faces in the carpet? Thusly." With that, the teacher laid on the floor, his face buried in the carpet.
"I think Sikowitz is sad…" Tori muttered to Jade.
"I'm not sad. Just disappointed in you children." Sikowitz said, sitting up slightly and leaning on his elbow. "You're all a bunch of Negative Nancys. Whiny Willies. Depressing Darnells."
"Oh! I know an old man named Parnell!" Cat said, perking up and getting the attention of the class. "His wife says things to him like, 'Hey Parnell! You wanna eat some pancakes on a rocket ship?'"
"Nobody ever knows what you're talking about." Andre leaned in front of the small girl, and she leaned in too and obviously sniffed his breath.
"You have man breath." She giggled before leaning back.
"What are you buggin' about?" Tori asked Sikowitz, almost completely ignoring Cat and Andre.
"When you kids started this class, you were all bright-tailed and bushy-eyed! Hungry to learn about being performers!" Sikowitz said, jumping up. "I know! I want you all to spend the rest of the day saying yes! You aren't allowed to say 'no' to a question today-unless it's illegal or kissing, stuff like that is okay."
"Okay," Tori said, nodding along with the rest of the class.
Suddenly, Jade sat up slowly, an idea blossoming in her eyes. She looked at her girlfriend with a grin on her face. Tori looked at her confused, not processing what was about to happen. "Will you watch The Scissoring with me tonight?"
Tori opened her mouth, completely floored, but Sikowitz leaned in with an eyebrow raised. "Darn you Jadelyn!" The Vega girl hissed under her breath, then grinned. "Will you be romantic before we watch that dreadful movie?"
Jade groaned, but nodded. "How do you always beat me?" She joked with a playful glare on her face.
Tori sighed quietly at the door in front of her and raised her fist to knock before she heard Jade yell, "Come in!" Well, maybe she didn't sigh as quietly as she had thought. Vega opened the door slowly and heard the opening piano notes as she walked in. She let the door shut behind her with a grin and started singing while looking at the beautiful girl on the piano. "You tell all the girls 'no'. Makes you feel good, yeah. I know you're out of my league, but that won't scare me away, oh, no." She sat down next to Jade, setting her bag down on the floor. "You've carried on so long, you couldn't stop if you tried it."
"Ooo-oh no." Jade hummed smiling quickly at her girlfriend before playing again.
"You've built your walls so high, that no one could climb it. But I'm gonna try. Would you let me see beneath your beautiful? Would you let me see beneath your perfect? Take it off now, girl, take it off now, girl. Cause I wanna see inside. Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight?" Jade got up as Tori scooted over and took over the piano part as Jade cleared her throat almost silently.
"You let all the boys go, makes you feel good, don't it?" Jade sung with Tori now backing her up in some places. "Behind your Broadway show, I hear a boy say, 'Please, don't hurt me.'" The girls grinned at each other, loving how their voices blending together yet stood equal. "You've carried on so long, you couldn't stop if you tried it."
Tori hummed, leaning into Jade slightly, still continuing the music on the piano.
"You've built your wall so high that no one could climb it." Jade sung, her voice hitting notes that Tori felt she couldn't hit. "But I'm gonna try. Would you let me-"
"See beneath your beautiful," Tori and Jade sung now, smiling widely at each other. "Would you let me see beneath your perfect? Take it off now, girl, take it off now, girl. I wanna see inside! Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight?"
"I'm gonna climb on top your ivory tower!" Tori and Jade sung proudly. "I'll hold your hand and then we'll jump right out. We'll be falling, falling but that's okay," As that note rang out for half a second, they met gazes and stayed that way.
"'Cause I'll be right here," Tori sang by herself before Jade jumped back in.
"I just wanna know would you let me see beneath your beautiful? Would you let me see beneath your perfect? Take it off now, girl, take it off now, girl, 'cause I wanna see inside."
"Would you let me see beneath your beaut-i-ful tonight?" Tori sang.
"Oh, oh, oh, tonight?" Jade hummed.
"Would you let me see beneath your beautiful tonight?" The last note, sang together, hung out in the air as the two girls looked at each other. They had written that song recently but they had never-not once-sang it quite like that.
Jade leaned in and kissed Tori, wrapping her arms around the smaller girl. They stayed like that for a few minutes before Jade started to slowly pull away. "I made popcorn," Jade whispered, pecking Tori's lips once more before standing up. Tori stifled a groan as she followed the West girl to the oh so familiar couch.
Jade fell back onto the couch and Tori snuggled into her dark haired girlfriend. "I can't believe you're getting away with this."
Jade opened her mouth to reply as her phone rang and Tori's face brightened. "This better not be your fault," Jade warned as she answered her phone. Tori just shook her head with a smile as she started eating the popcorn.
"You're WHAT?-" Jade suddenly screeched, causing Tori to wince.
"Yeah, some guys really wanted our Pajelehoochos. But can you bring me some clothes? I don't like Robbie seeing me in my underwear." Tori sat up, confused as she heard Cat's voice on the other end of the phone.
"Where's Sam?" Jade asked incredulously, already on the move, running up stairs. Tori grinned and started turning off the TV before Jade yelled, "Don't you dare touch that television Vega!"
Tori turned around just as Jade was rushing down the stairs, now with clothes for Cat. She was off the phone now, just left shaking her head at her ditzy best friend. "So where is she?" Tori asked, walking towards the door as Jade dug around for her car keys.
"Over by the-" Jade began, opening her front door but was stopped in her tracks by two cops there, the male with his hand raised as if he were about to knock. "Hello?"
"Hi, are you Jadelyn West?" The woman asked, smiling at the teenager.
"Yeah, what's going on?" Jade looked slightly shocked, but her brain was already thinking about what was happening, so she had a small clue of what might be unfolding in front of her.
"We just need to ask you a few questions." The guy policeman said.
"Why? Is she in trouble?" Tori asked, finally speaking. She had been super shocked at first.
"Not at all." The woman assured Tori. "We just want to ask her some questions about something that occurred a few weeks ago."
"It's okay, babe." Jade softly smiled at Tori. "I'll be fine. Cat needs your help." With this, Jade handed Cat's clothes to Tori and told her where to go. "I'll text you when this is done." Jade motioned for the cops to come in the door and led Tori out. As Tori got in her car with a frown, Jade yelled out, "This doesn't get you out of watching the movie!"
Author's Note: Could you imagine the cops walking in and seeing 'The Scissoring' on your TV? "Oh yeah, I swear I'm not a murdered or anything..."
While I'm curious as to why you think the cops are here, don't worry too heavily about it. Jade didn't kill anybody.
Anyways, here's a fast upload actually. I've set a goal in mind to have this done by June of 2014, so I can say it only took me a year. That means 7 chapters in two months! Yeah! This chapter, as well as the last one, was mostly fluff. The next one will be too, but that's only because I want to show their relationship more. Plus, fluff is nice. It's soft.
The singing scene was inspired by a cover of Beneath Your Beautiful by Liz Gillies! Check it out, the scene might make more sense that way.
I'm thinking about (and attempting to) rerelease the trailer for this story. Simply because the trailer I have is horrible quality. The new trailer would be better quality and slightly different scenes, but nothing too bad. In fact, what're your favorite inshow Jori scenes? Maybe I'll include them!
I want to know the mistakes I've made so I can fix them, so please let me know. I have a specialized test thing going on this week so my brain has been too fried to type. I think I've gotten everything but I just want to make sure.
Thank you everyone for reading!
