Chapter Fourteen

A Small Interlude

Early the next morning, Saphira lead the group of Gryffindor first years down to the Great Hall. Just as predicted, none of them remembered where the Great Hall was. So the young Time Lady made it her mission to lead the group down for breakfast.

Reaching the Great Hall, Saphira paused at the entrance and frowned. All the students kept to their Houses, no one mingling. As a result, Saphira made it her mission to change things. First, she skipped up to the Head Table where Dumbledore is sitting.

"Hey, Professor?" she called out as she hopped up to the table. The old headmaster glanced up from his breakfast to smile at the girl.

"Good morning, Saphira," he greeted jovially, then noticed the frown upon her face. "Whatever is the matter, dear one?"

"Well, here's the thing. You said that we need to encourage inter-house unity. But how can we do that if everything we do discourages us from doing so. Like where we sit when we eat. Instead of having the four tables for the houses, we should save that for something else. I thought, that we should have more groups of tables, so that way students can sit with their friends from other houses without making it seem so awkward."

"I think that is a splendid idea," Professor Sprout commented. The other teachers had heard Saphira's comment. That was when she noticed that her parents and uncle weren't around. They were, perhaps, still in the Tardis. Or maybe they already had breakfast and were now getting ready for classes.

"I agree," tiny Professor Flitwick piped up. "This way, we can embolden the union-ship between the students."

Professor McGonagall nodded in agreement, and the other professors, who weren't Heads of Houses but still tried to encourage unity between the Houses, also voiced their consent. Only Snape remained quiet.

"Severus? What do you have to say to this remarkable idea?" Dumbledore asked. Snape glanced up and sideways from where he was picking at his food.

"Do whatever you wish. I have no quarrel with what the child comes up with."

"Very well. Today at noon, just in time for lunch, we shall have multiple smaller tables instead of the Four Great tables. Which shape should these tables be in, Miss Evans?"

"Doesn't matter. Maybe a variety of shapes," Saphira suggested with a shrug.

"Very good. Now, you should probably go and eat some breakfast, before it is all eaten away."

"Yes sir. Thank you for listening."

"And thank you for the marvelous idea."

Later that afternoon, Saphira sat with her Gryffindor friends- Ron, Seamus, and Dean, at a large, round table. Around her, students looked confused as to why things had so suddenly changed, and they kept to their own Houses.

Huffing, Saphira pouted, but brightened up when he saw her friends from the other Houses come in the Great Hall.

"Hey guys! Over here!" She called. Harry noticed her first, and walked over with a dark skinned boy.

"Why are you inviting the Slytherins over?" Ron asked. "They don't belong here."

"But Harry's our friend," Saphira replied, looking appalled that Ron rejected Harry's friendship over a stupid reason. "And I'm sure Harry's new friend is cool as well."

Harry and Blaise sat down on Saphira's other side, away from the Gryffindors. Saphira blinked, but shrugged. At least they were joining them.

Hermione, Padma, Neville, Hannah, Susan, and Ernie soon joined as well, being more willing to mingle then Blaise and the Gryffindors were.

As lunch dragged on, Saphira occasionally glanced around the Great Hall. She noticed, to her relief, that the older students began mingling as well- not wanting to be out done by a bunch of first years.

By the end of the day, Saphira was beaming with pride at her accomplishment. She had new friends, and achieved to make people mingle more. She skipped all the way up to Gryffindor tower (which was quite a long way, mind you).

But as she sat on her bed, she begun to realize that things may not be as good as they seemed to be. For one thing, she was bored. Being part Time Lady, she didn't need as much sleep as her human friends did. Also, she had a greater mind then the rest of them. And with that greater mind, she learned at a faster rate, and got bored more easily.

She had read all of her school books, and easily completed all of her homework. Maybe during her break, she should visit her dad and see if he could give her something to keep her occupied. Or maybe she should go explore the castle. Yes. That sounded fun. Sure, there were lots of areas already occupied by the school, but there were areas left undiscovered for her and her crew. Crew? No. Pack? Eh. She'll have to think of a group name…

Wait! They sat at a round table.

King Arthur and his knights sat at a round table.

They should be the Wizards of the Round Table!

Yeah, that sounded cool. Saphira would go over their group name over the weekend. Maybe then they could explore the castle.

Oh, this was going to be so much fun!
