The flames whipped past them as they pressed themselves against the pillars. Eeva shielded her eyes from the heat until it stopped. She lowered her arm and eyed the furnaces. She perks up when she heard the grunting of the furnace coming to life once again. Eeva grinned as they all pushed away from the pillars and went to work. However, she couldn't help the feeling that something terrible was about to happen.

Eeva watched as Thorin shouted orders to each dwarf. She saw Bombur went to work on the Bellows. She glanced over at the bellows and saw them blowing blue flames and melting the unrefined gold inside. Bilbo stood next to her watching and waiting when he looked up at her.

"How's your shoulder, Eeva?"

"It'll be fine, Bilbo. There's no need to worry about it now," she answered ignoring the stinging pain.

Eeva's attention was pulled from Bilbo when Thorin called for him. Her eyes then glanced over at the latticework as Smaug continued to ram his head into it. She watched as it continued to bend and ushered them to move faster. Or it'd be the death of them.

"Bilbo! Up there, on my mark, pull that lever," She heard Thorin tell him. "Eeva!"

She quickly whipped her head around and faced the dwarf prince. He motioned her to his side as they spun toward the latticework. Smaug had bent it more. Thorin grabbed Balin and asked him to make flash-flame. Eeva glued her eyes on the latticework and Smaug. She knew nothing she'd do would kill the dragon, but she wouldn't go down without a fight. Eeva grabbed the handle of her knife and waited. Her eyes followed Smaug's movements when the latticework finally broke. She went to unsheathe her knife but a warm hand stopped her. A quick gland to her right saw that it was Thorin. He shook his head.

"Now!" Thorin shouted to Bilbo.

Smaug locked his eyes on Thorin and started to approach him. Eeva unsheathed her knife and ran in front of Thorin, knife raised.

"That's not going to save you, Ranger," Smaug laughed.

Eeva's eyes narrowed as she kept her eyes on Smaug. "I hope your plan works, Thorin."

"It will," Thorin answered as they both stepped back.

They watched as water burst out of the carved faces in the wall by Bilbo. Eeva and Thorin watched as Smaug was knocked off balance and slammed into the side of a furnace. Angry, Smaug roared and took to the air and thrashed around trying to remove the water. Smaug hit the ground again and with narrowed eyes stalked toward Thorin and Eeva again.

"Stay behind me," Eeva ordered Thorin.

"You are giving me orders now?" Thorin questioned amused.

"Now is not that time for that," Eeva muttered. A shine to her left had her glancing out of the corner of her eye. She saw the melted gold flowing through the troughs just as Smaug began to thrash around more from the weight of the rocks dropped on him.

"Go, lead him to the Gallery of the Kings!" Thorin shouted. His eyes lingered on Eeva for a moment longer before he took off running.

"Thorin!" she shouted.

"Follow them! We'll meet up again soon!"

Eeva rolled out of the way as Smaug swiped at her. She rolled onto her shoulder and let out a sharp cry of pain. She cursed in her head as Balin and Dwalin helped her to her feet. Bilbo was beside her with a look of concern.

"I'll be fine," she murmured.

Bilbo nodded and ran after the others. Eeva waited until she knew Thorin was gone before sprinting to catch up. Her eyes remained forward as they ran through the halls of the dwarf kingdom. Eeva stopped running when she caught sight of Bilbo in a hall, a banner on the floor. She cursed again. How had she lost the others? She was brought from her thoughts when the pillar she was behind was destroyed. Eeva was sent flying next to Bilbo who ran to her side making sure she was okay.

"Eeva," Bilbo gulped.

Eeva followed his gaze and her eyes widened. She quickly jumped to her unsteady feet and pushed Bilbo behind her.

"You think you could deceive me, Barrel-rider?" Smaug said. "You have come from Laketown. There is some sort of scheme hatched between these filthy dwarves and those miserable cup-trading Lakemen. Those sniveling cowards with their longbows and black arrows. Perhaps it is time I paid them a visit."

"Oh, no," Bilbo muttered.

"Wait!" Eeva shouted drawing the dragon's attention to her.

"And what is a Ranger doing with a group of filthy, thieving dwarves?"

"That is none of your concern. But you cannot go to Laketown. This isn't their fault!"

"You care about them, do you? Good. Then you both can watch them die."

"No!" Eeva shouted as Smaug walked over her and Bilbo.

"Here, you witless worm!" Thorin shouted.

"You," Smaug snarled.

"I am taking back what you stole."

"You would take nothing from me, Dwarf. I laid low your warriors of old. I instilled terror in the hearts of men. I am King under the Mountain!"

Eeva grabbed Bilbo by his upper arm and pulled him off to the side as Thorin and Smaug went at it.

"This is not your kingdom. These are dwarf lands, this is dwarf gold, and we will have our revenge."

Thorin yelled in Khuzdul and Eeva watched as he pulled the rope next to him and the statue started to fall. She watched as the golden statue captured Smaug's attention and drew him closer. Eeva tilted her head to the side as she saw the gold start to move. Her eyes widened realizing the gold had not set. She quickly ushered Bilbo to higher ground. They all watched as Smaug was covered in melted gold. Eeva glanced down just as Smaug flew up out of the gold covered in it.

"Ahh! Revenge?! Revenge! I will show you revenge!" Smaug snarled flying out of the hall and into the open air.

"No," Eeva breathed, her eyes wide.

"What have we done?" Bilbo questioned.

"I am fire. I am…Death!"

Hey everyone, I'm sorry for the not updating in a long time. But I promise I am back and will complete this story and possibly work on a sequel but for The Lord of the Rings. Oh and I want to apologize for such a short chapter but I wanted to get through the Desolation of Smaug before diving into Battle of the Five Armies. I'll try to start working on it tonight, if not then I'll work on it all day tomorrow and post it tomorrow too. Hope you all enjoyed and please rate and review. Oh and the next chapter might be bit of a filler chapter. I wanted to work more on the ThorinxEeva relationship since I really haven't done much.

Also I want to give a quick shout out to a wonderful reader named killthepain62.
