"So, what brought you here to little Gardenia?" Brandon asked as to break the silence of what seemed to be a never ending car ride back to his house with Stella.

"Huh? Oh, I was transferred here by the DA office after your last ADA retired." Stella answered as she looked out the window.

"Are you okay, Stella? You seem a little down?" Brandon asked again. He glanced over to Stella who still remained in her slouched position in the passenger seat chair. She had his coat over her shoulders and her vibrant golden hair was dull and lacked life to it.

"Yeah, I am fine. Being a lawyer I guess that I am somebody who usually has an explanation for things and just growing up, things have gone my way but now, I don't know what is going on and this is definitely not something that I had planned for my life." Stella responded.

"I think that having magical light powers would be cool." Brandon chuckled trying to lighten the mood. Stella turned around and faced Brandon.

"I meant that I didn't want to stay in Gardenia. This was supposed to be a small pit stop to the finish line. I wanted to work in New York or Chicago, not some small town. But now because of this whole magic thing and the fact that it seems to be centered in this small town, I have to stay here until I find out what is going on." Stella stated without any regard to how it made Brandon feel. Brandon tightened his grip on the steering wheel and stared straight ahead at the road. "Brandon?" Stella questioned, noticing the change in his mood.

"What, are we not good enough for you here?" Brandon shouted as he slammed his foot down on the brake. "I'm sorry that we aren't New York or Chicago but I think that was a very shallow thing for you to say!"

"What? I am being honest. Growing up, this was not my dream. I'm not saying that I am disappointed that I have to stay but it's just not what I planned my life to be and now I have to rethink everything." Stella shouted back.

"Just because things don't go your way doesn't mean that you have to shit on our little town and make it seem like you are settling!" Brandon shouted as he snapped his head towards Stella. Stella's eyes went wide and she furrowed her brow.

"I didn't say anything bad about Gardenia! If this is how you are going to be then I don't think that I want to be staying with you anymore. You are just overreacting!" Stella said as she got out of the car and started walking in the direction of her house.

"Stella, get back here!" Brandon yelled after Stella.

"No! You don't dictate what I do in my life. I am an adult. You sound just like my father! I didn't even want to be a lawyer! I wanted to go into art and fashion but it didn't go with the plan that my father had put in place for me. I bet he wouldn't like the fact that I fell in lo-" Stella stopped herself before she revealed more than she wanted to.

"Wait, fell in what?" Brandon asked as he held on to what she was about to say.

"It doesn't matter. Besides this whole glowing thing doesn't fit into my plans either. I just wanted to be a fashion designer but I guess some higher power has other plans. Maybe I would have been a crappy designer." Stella sighed as she sat on the side of the road.

"If it makes you feel any better, I am glad that you became a lawyer." Brandon said as he joined Stella on the curb.

"Why?" Stella scoffed.

"Because I would have never met you." Brandon smiled softly. Stella looked up at Brandon and saw his hazel eyes staring into her amber ones. She smiled back at him and he placed his hand on hers. "Now, can I please take you somewhere that isn't the side of the road so that you can rest after what happened to you? Whatever the heck it was." Brandon asked as he stood up and reached out for Stella's hand.

"That would be great." Stella replied as she took Brandon's hand as she stood up and got back in the passenger seat of the car.
