Author's Note: I'm so sorry I haven't posted in forever. I was really struggling as to where I wanted the story to go but I figured it out. I hope to post soon. Just a couple of things to note. This takes place mid season 2. Robert allowed Callie to be adopted Sophia never tore up the papers and Callie is still getting to know both. Lena is still pregnant with Frankie I'm having the complications arise a little later in her pregnancy then it did on the show. Ana and Mike got sober/clean together after he confronted her at the halfway house so she made amends with everyone earlier and because of that Jesus found Gabe earlier so Gabe is going to be apart of the story earlier.

Lena POV

As soon as I arrive home and enter the house with Mike, I find all the kids waiting around in the living room. As soon as I entered the room I'm bombarded with questions from all the kids.

Mariana: "Where were you? We waited for you like forever after school!"

Jesus: "If you were busy you could have sent a text."

Callie: "Where's Mom? She's usually home by now."

Brandon: "What's my Dad doing here? Is it Mom? Did something happen to her?"

Jude: "Did Mom get shot again?" Is she hurt? Is she okay?"

At this point all the kids were panicking thinking something happened to Stef. I reply, "Everyone needs to calm down, Mom is fine she's still at work." Mariana cuts me off and interjects "Then what's going on?" I reply, "Alright everyone, the reason why I didn't meet you guys afterschool is I went with Mom to go help out Riley. Riley left my office very upset and ended up calling Mom not long after because she needed our help. Riley's foster Dad has been physically abusing her and when she got home today he started hurting her. However, this time her foster Mom came home early and saw what was happening and so he stopped hitting Riley and started beating up his wife. That's when Riley went to hide and call Mom, because she thought her foster father was going to kill her foster Mom and then her. Mom and I called 911 as we rushed over to the house and Mike met us there. When we arrived we heard gunshots. Mike and Mom went in and saw some other police officers handling the situation. Riley's foster Dad was shot by the police and is deceased, along with Riley's foster Mom who was killed by her husband. Riley is currently at the hospital with Mom. I don't know how bad she is injured but she is injured." The whole room was shocked….

Callie asked, "But she's going to be okay right? Like she's not going to die right?"

I reply, "She isn't going to die, but she might need surgery or be in the hospital for a couple of days."

Jesus asked, "Why didn't she say something to anyone, we could have helped?"

I replied, "Probably because she was scared Jesus…scared of him, scared of what would to her if she told, and scared of where she would go next. But what happened to her was not Riley's fault. So please don't be mad at her for not say anything, after all almost all of you have kept some pretty big secrets yourself."

Mariana asked "So what's going to happen to Riley after she gets out of the hospital?"

I replied, "Well Mom and I were talking and we were thinking that after the hospital Riley could come live here for a while. This way she could feel safe and heal. How do all of you feel about that?"

Everyone agreed and said they think Riley should be here and that they were all cool with her living here.

Mariana, "So where is she going to be staying…. she obviously can't heal on the couch and as much as I would love to share a room with her. There is literally no room in mine and Callie's room."

I reply, "Mom and I will figure that out, but your right Mariana you don't have the room. In the meantime, I'm going to go get changed, grab Mom a pair of clothes, and head to the hospital. While Mom and I are gone Mike is in charge and will be staying with you guys. I expect all of you to be on your best behavior and get your homework done. I will leave money for pizza for dinner tonight. Does everyone understand?"

They all replied yes and I asked Callie to go upstairs and get a comfy change of clothes for Riley and with that I head upstairs to get changed.

Stef POV

I'm pacing back and forth in the waiting room to hear about how Riley's doing. All I know is they rushed her into surgery. I see the doors of the waiting room open and see Lena. She runs to me and gives me hug. She pulls away and asks how Riley is doing and where is she. I reply, "uuhh they told me they were rushing her into surgery…Lena, um she coded in the ambulance on the way here. This is one of the worst beatings I have ever seen as cop Lena. And it happened that sweet innocent 14-year-old child. I just don't know how things are going to turn out." Lena: "Wait what? I knew she was injured but I thought she would be okay." I reply, "I hope so Lena, I hope. How were the kids? What did you say?" Lena replied, "Well they were very worried about what was happening, why I didn't meet them afterschool and then when they saw Mike they thought something happened to you. I told them that Riley's foster Dad was physically abusing her and that she called you for help, and that he's dead along with the foster mom. I said that Riley was at the hospital injured and you were with her and that she would be okay. I also talked to them about Riley coming to live with us for a while after and they were all on board. Although Mariana did point out that her and Callie don't have room for anyone else in their room and she's right, so we need to figure that out." I replied, "And we will my love." And with that we waited.

A few hours later

Lena was in the bathroom, and I was telling Bill (Riley's social worker) about what happened including the rape, when the doctor came out looking for someone to speak to about Riley. Bill and I ran over. Before Lena came out of the bathroom I said to the doctor my wife doesn't know anything about the rape and Riley wanted to tell her so please don't say anything until after Riley is awake and able to tell Lena. The doctor nodded. At this point, Lena came out of the bathroom and rushed over. The doctor then gave us and update and said "Riley's injuries are extensive. She has a dislocated left shoulder, which is the same side as her broken wrist. Her facial laceration that was already stitched needed to be re-stitched. She has a serious concussion as well. She also had a very small brain bleed which we took care of during surgery and that we will need to monitor very closely. Now, her cheekbones were repeatedly hit with so much force that they broken in several places and we needed to surgical repair both. Riley also had serious trauma or injury to her spleen causing it rupture, so we had to remove it. Lastly, Riley has four broken ribs and she had what we call a pneumothorax, which is an abnormal collection of air in the space between her lung and chest wall, commonly this known as a collapsed lung, which is why she couldn't breathe and coded in the ambulance. So we inserted a chest tube to remove the air. Riley is going to have a tough road ahead but should make a full recovery and most likely will be in the hospital for the next week if not longer, especially with the spleen being removed she's very vulnerable to infection so she is also on IV antibiotics."

This poor girl, I can't believe it. I ask, "When can we see her?" The doctor replied, "Well she hasn't woken up from surgery yet, but I can take you back to her." At this point Bill was called to another emergency place, but to call when Riley wakes up and would be back as soon as he could. And with that we headed back to go see Riley.
