Chapter 14 – A Whole Lot of Awkwardness

"That awkward moment when…"

After the fight between Edward and I, things between us were…tense to say the least. He wouldn't speak to me unless it was necessary and in those brief moments it was always ion a gruff tone. If I asked him for something, he would throw it at me feet rather than actually hand it to me. After he broke six glasses, I learned my lesson. This of course forced Bella to act as peacekeeper and go between for us. Eventually she got tired of it and forced us both to sit down.

"Eddie, you're upset that I'm dating Emmett. I get that. Emmett you're upset that Eddie isn't as," she waved her hand passively in the air as she searched for the right word. "…receptive of us dating. But I'm getting tired of the testosterone in the air and the tension." She glared at both of us like a mother would while giving her children a stern talking to. Then she closed her eyes and sighed. When she opened her eyes again, she was all smiles.

"Now I called Tanya and she has agreed that we should clear the air. So later on tonight, we are going out on a double date. You two will clear the air and that will be the end of it." Bella crossed his arms and started tapping her foot.

"Oh, she means right now." I turned to Edward and smirked. He still looked pissed but slowly his sour mood was evaporating.

"I don't like the fact that you're dating my sister but since it's clear that she's…not going to give you up any time soon, I guess I better get used to seeing the two of you together. But I don't want to see any PDA or walk into your room and see…anything. Just don't do any of it when I'm here, okay?"

I nodded and looked to Bella. She still had her arms crossed but she was no longer tapping her foot. "See was that so hard?"

I chuckled and rushed to kiss her before remembering Edward's request of no PDA in front of him. I looked to him with pleading eyes. He huffed and walked out of the room, leaving us to kiss.

"So does this mean that every time I want to kiss you, I have to make sure your brother isn't around to see it?"

She smirked evilly and kissed me firmly on the lips. "Or we could continue to throw it in his face until he gets used to it. Much like I learned to when I first moved in here and kept catching him and Tanya making out on the kitchen counter."

I shook my head and kept right on with the making out.

Later that night, Bella, Edward and I were sitting at a table, waiting for Tanya to show. Edward was nervously looking around, avoiding our eyes. To which we took advantage of and kept making goo-goo eyes at each other, just to annoy him and pay him back for taking so long to get ready. He spent so much time fussing over what to wear or how to make his hair look mussed just right that Bella and I left without him. A few minutes later, Tanya arrived and Edward finally stopped looking nervous. She looked harried and still in the clothes she wore to the middle school where she was doing her internship.

"Sorry, I thought I would have gotten off earlier. Were you guys waiting long?"

We all shook out heads and smiled as she took her seat. Tanya turned to Bella and asked if Edward and I made up.

"Yeah, there was no kissing involved but the tension between the two is gone." She joked.

Edward looked from his girlfriend to his sister; his expression mimicking my thoughts: how long have these two been in cahoots with each other. Bella smiled sweetly at me before asking if we knew what we wanted to order. I turned my attention to the menu but I couldn't help but noticing the awkward silence that had befallen our table. Bella and Tanya were smiling but theirs soon faltered. I touched Bella's hand and gave it a small squeeze before asking Tanya about her internship.

"Well I'm basically as an assistant to the teacher but I develop lesson plans and grade papers…" Tanya went on but I had difficulty staying interested. She and I never really saw eye to eye. She didn't like the fact that Edward continued to room with me rather than move in with her and I hated that she acted like I was second rate when we were alone but first class when around others.

The rest of dinner followed this pattern: someone would ask a question and the other would answer it. Even drinking three beers couldn't make the evening more enjoyable and the others picked up on it as well. So after dessert, we paid the bill and made the obligatory 'this was fun' and 'we should do it again sometime' comments before heading our own separate ways.

"Well that had to be the most uncomfortable dinner I've ever had." I said to Bella as we drove.

"Yeah, when I called Tanya, she said it was a good idea. I thought it was her wanting to get to know us better. But now I see why you don't like her." Before Tanya arrived, I told Bella why I try to avoid situations where she and I had to be in the same room. Bella either couldn't or didn't want to believe that her brother could pick someone who didn't like his roommate. But after spending the evening with her, she was finally coming around.

"So tonight was a lot of awkwardness but it was still a nice evening out. And I know that you didn't want to come but you did, so thank you." Bella smiled shyly at me from the passenger side.

"I did it for you."
