Princess Chapter 13

Kanda lifted Abby off her feet and was carrying her toward a carriage that had appeared only a few minutes ago. It was an ambulance. When they reached the carriage the doors were thrown open and the head nurse from the castle marched out. After taking one look at Abby and her injuries she started yelling, claiming that Kanda and Lavi should have done a better job keeping her safe.

"Are you in any pain?" Kanda asked when the head nurse had turned her attention to Lavi.

Abby smiled up at Kanda from his arms and shook her head, "Not really. The medication the head nurse gave me has kind of numbed me. I can't feel anything."

Kanda's frown grew at her words but did not say anything in return. He gently placed her in the ambulance and hopped in beside her when there was a sound behind them. On instinct Kanda threw himself over her forcing her to the bottom of the carriage as a knife sailed through the air where her head had just been.

"Darn and I thought I had her this time," the voice of Tyki declared.

Everyone watched as a man came out of the woods with a large smile on his face.

"Who are you," Lavi asked. He had stepped in front of the ambulance so he was between Abby and the new man.

"My name is Tyki" The man replied, "I have come for the girl. You see my master wishes to meet with her and … Discuss an agreement that I think she would like."

"You will not be taking Abby anywhere," Lavi said with a frown.

Without another word the man leapt forward faster than anyone could see. He was suddenly standing in front of the Ambulance behind Lavi. When he appeared Kanda was ready. He had pulled out his sword and attacked Tyki. Tyki , not expecting the attack, jumped to the right barely in time to escape the blade of the sword.

Kanda glared at the man in front of him keeping his body between him and Abby. The man ran at him again this time with a small knife in his hand. Kanda's sword clashed with the knife in Tyki's hand causing a metallic sound to ring through the woods. Everyone was silent as they watched the fight between Tyki and Kanda.

Movement behind Kanda shook the trance off of the group. Abby had gotten up from the bottom of the ambulance and was running toward Tyki. Tyki had stopped moving and was staring at her in surprise as she jumped on him.

"Now Kanda," She shrieked throwing herself on Tyki and tackling him to the ground. She held him down as he started to thrash trying to throw her off but she had a death grip on his arms. Without missing a beat Kanda ran up to the thrashing duo and sliced his sword across Tyki's thoat without a second thought. Blood squirted over the two of them as Tyki's life drained out of his body.

Kanda and Abby locked eyes, both gasping from exertion, as Tyki stopped thrashing below her.

"Are the two of you okay?" Lavi asked coming up beside them. He was still in shock from the events that had just occurred.

"Yeah I think so," Abby gasped. During Tyki's thrashing his hand had grabbed a large part of the top of her dress and had ripped a small patch of the dress causing it to fall and reveal most of her back revealing her birthmark to everyone.

"Abby, your back," Lavi said in a whisper. Abby looked down and realized that her dress had been torn and her birthmark was fully on display for everyone to see. Before she could cover it up Lavi pushed the fabric of her dress further away to see her mark more.

"Rabbit what do you think you are doing," Kanda growled from beside Abby.

"Her birthmark Kanda," Lavi said pointing at the heart shaped discoloration on her back.

Kanda looked down at the birthmark and his eyes widened. He didn't say anything as he grabbed Abby's shoulders and forced her to move so that she was facing away from him so he could see the mark better.

"It's just a birthmark," Abby said feebly. She had heard what Ms. Ryder had said and what the head nurse thought. This birthmark was the whole reason why she was being targeted. Everone thought that she was the lost princess.

"Abby it isn't just a birthmark. This is a mark that means that you are the future queen. You are the princess that was removed from the castle. The one that everyone is waiting for to return and reign with love and happiness over the kingdom. You are the one that can end this curse," By the time Lavi was done speaking his voice had gone from a passionate below to a whisper.

"But don't you see," Abby said desperately, "I was raised a simple farm girl. I may be headstrong but that is because I know what I want. Being a princess or a queen is not in my plans for my life. Even if I am the one you speak of there is no way I could do it. I was never trained to manage a kingdom. I don't even know where I would start."

"That's what Yuu is for," Lavi said with a smile realizing that Abby had already given in. "He will be by your side. I have seen him in meetings. He is very good at making sure everything is done fairly. I think the two of you would make a beautiful couple."

"But we never really planned on going through with the wedding unless it was absolutely necessary. I thought we would have figured it out before it got that far," Abby replied.

"You mean to tell me that you never actually planned on marrying me?" Kanda asked glaring down at the woman in his arms. The woman that he was starting to realize that he really did truly love.

"I guess not," Abby said looking up at the sky as she thought, "I guess I assumed this would all have been figured out before it got that far and you would have realized that I was a complete idiot and left me."

Kanda's eyes widened in surprise, "You thought that I was going to get bored of you and leave you?"

"Well yeah," Abby said as if was the most obvious thing in the world, "I mean I am just a lonely farm girl who happened to have found her way into the castle and you are a prince. Why would you possibly like me?"

Lavi laughed at their conversation, "Trust me Abby, Kanda does like you and I don't think there is anything you could possibly say to make him not. I have never seen him act the way he does around you, around anyone else."

"Rabbit watch what you say. You are getting very close to saying something I might have to hit you for," Kanda threatened glaring at Lavi. He and Abby were still sitting on the ground beside Tyki's body.

"Guys are you okay?" Lenalee's panicked voice called from a carriage that had just arrived.

"We are fine Lenalady," Lavi called back waving at the distraught woman who threw herself out of the carriage the moment it stopped.

"I was so worried about you guys! How are you feeling Abby," Lenalee asked as she dropped on the ground beside Abby and Kanda. Throwing her arms around the two of their necks they almost collided"

"We're fine Lenalee," Abby said patting the young woman's head with a small smile.

"You look like you just got beat up," Lenalee said looking over Abby's body and noting the bandages that littered her skin.

"Yeah the forest really didn't like me messing up its leaves," Abby said with a grimace.

"And your dress is destroyed," Lenalee also noted.

"Its okay I didn't like this one anyway," Abby said waving her hand.

"And is that-" Lenalee stopped with a gasp looking at Abby's chest where her birthmark was revealed.

"Its my birthmark," Abby said not willing to give any more information about it.

"Do you guys think-" Lenalee started to ask directing her attention to the two men that had been surprisingly silent while Lenalee fussed over Abby. Both men nodded.

"We believe that she is the lost princess," Lavi confirmed.

"That's great news," Lenalee said jumping up, "Then the king will have to let you get married."

"And why is that," Abby asked raising her eyebrow.

"Because, the only thing that he could have possibly had a problem with before was that you were not of royal blood but that is now not the case because you are his own daughter," Lenalee explained. "He can't stop you from getting married without making it seem really weird."

"If you are sure…."

"May I please have everyone's attention," The page boy called from his spot on the edge of the fountain in the center of town. The townspeople all looked to him in expectation. There was a low murmur that ran through the crowd as they all waited.

"I am here to announce the union of Prince Yuu Kanda and Miss Abigail O'Brian. The wedding will be held in one hour in the church house here in the center of town. All who are able are asked to attend," Without another word the page boy jumped down from the fountain and ran back toward the castle leaving the townspeople to stare in amazement.

"Did you hear that, Abigail is getting married," One woman called to another.

"The girl who could never pick a man is finally settling down," Another woman called.

"I can't believe it," Another voice called as more and more people joined in the conversation. As people were talking they all started to make their way to the church. Shop owners closed their doors and everyone in the town found themselves in the church house waiting anxiously to see how the wedding would unfold.

"We are almost ready for you," Lavi said smiling down at Abby.

"How are you feeling," Lavi asked Abby. He had just stepped into the bridal suit in the church. Abby looked up from her hands to smile at him. She had been sitting in the bridal suite brushing her hair in the mirror.

"I'm okay I guess. I just feel like something bad is about to happen," Abby said with a sigh.

Lavi came over and put his hand on her shoulder, "You are probably just nervous. Try to relax I won't let anything happen to you."

"I know you won't," Abby said with a smile. There was a knock on the door and Lavi and Abby exchanged a look of confusion before Lavi walked to the door. Abby heard him talk to someone in the hallway but he had not opened the door far enough for her to be able to see who it was.

"Come in," Lavi suddenly said opening the door a little wider. The person who walked in the door surprised Abby.

"Hello Abigail," Her grandfather said with a shy smile."

"Hi Grandpa, what are you doing here?" She asked.

There was hesitation in her grandfather's face, "Go on," Lavi said encouraging the old man.

"I am here to ask if I could walk you down the aisle," Her grandfather finally said.

Abby could only stare at the man who had raised her in disbelief. She had not heard from him or her grandmother in the past few weeks that she had spent in the castle. It had been their plan to have her go to the castle in order to find a husband.

"Why would I want you to walk me?" Abby asked crossing her arms over her chest.

The old man rang his hands looking more nervous than before. Something had changed in him when she had been gone but Abby could not quite place it.

"Your grandmother and myself know of what you are. You are the lost princess that everyone has been waiting for. Before you decide you will hate us let me explain why we acted the way we acted. We wanted you to marry someone around the town so that you would not have the pressure of running the country but when the Prince came into town and saw you we knew we had to let you go. We only hoped that by releasing you to Prince Lavi that you would be safe. We have always heard good things about him and hoped that he might be able to protect you."

Abby stared at her grandfather in shock. This man had tried to help her and keep her safe, probably not in the best way, but he had tried. " I don't know what to say," She finally said.

"I know I was supposed to walk you down the aisle but I think it might be best if your grandfather walked you," Lavi said after a moment. He gave her a lopsided smile.

With a deep breath Abby smiled and nodded to him, "Okay Grandpa can walk me."

"Thank you my dear," Mr. O'Brian said smiling at his granddaughter. By now voices of the townspeople were drifting into the room signaling that everyone was almost ready for the wedding to begin.

"If you are ready Abby I believe it is time for you to walk down the aisle to your soon to be husband," Lavi said opening the door for her and her grandfather. The sounds of the townspeople became louder. Abby realized that the whole town must have come to see her marry Kanda. With a nod she put her arm through the elbow her grandfather held out to her and allowed him to guide her toward the main room of the church and the rest of her life.

At the doors to the main room of the church silence finally fell. It seemed someone had told the congregation that the bride was ready for the wedding to begin. The wedding march started playing and before Abby's eyes the main door opened revealing the entire church room had been filled with people. All eyes were on her as her grandfather lead her down the aisle. As she walked she could feel her cheeks burning as she looked around at all of the people with their eyes trained on her.

"Look at Prince Kanda," Abby's grandfather whispered in her ear. Her eyes immediately moved in front of her to Kanda. Their eyes met and all of the people around them suddenly faded into the background. His eyes shone with the excitement that his face did not show. They were the only way to understand what he was really feeling.

Before she realized it her grandfather was handing Kanda her hand and she was at the altar. With a big grin she turned to face the preacher who smiled kindly at her and Kanda.

Abby attempted to listen to what the preacher was saying but her eyes kept moving to look at Kanda who was also staring at her. The preacher droned on in the background as she stared into his dark eyes.

The priest's voice suddenly stopping caught Abby and Kanda's attention. They both looked to the priest to see that his eyes were trained on the doors that Abby had walked through just moments earlier. Everyone in the crowd was looking at the giant oak doors as raided voices were heard on the other side of the door. People started to whisper wondering what was happening. Abby watched Kanda and Lavi exchange a look before Lavi sprinted down the aisle to the doors. Before he could open the doors they were thrown open and guards from the palace poured into the room.

Surprised screams echoed off of the stained glass windows of the church as guards pushed the congregation to the walls. Abby, Kanda, and the priest stared in utter amazement as guards ran for the stage on which they stood.

"Kanda get Abby out of here," Lavi's voice called from somewhere in the crowd of bodies before them. Abby felt Kanda's arm wind around her waist and hoist her off of her feet as Kanda slung her over his shoulder and started to run for the door the priest had come through earlier. It was only a few feet away from the stage and in less than a moment he was at the door almost ripping it off of its hinges in his eagerness to escape.

"Not so fast," Another guard yelled from inside the room Kanda was about to walk into. He stopped in his tracks at the threshold to the room. Abby craned her neck to see the man who stood before them. He was another guard and he had a large gun pointed at the two of them.

"Put the girl down and back up," The guard called gesturing with his gun to Abby. Kanda's arm tightened around her for a moment before he released his hold and allowed her to slide down his body until she was standing on her feet. Then he took two large steps back.

Now that she was staring at the guard with the gun, Abby felt fear starting to creep in. She had been attacked, starved, held captive, kidnapped, stabbed, and tumbled through the large brush in the woods and still she had felt like she could get out of the situation. Now faced with a gun she felt as if the man before her was about to kill her.

"Very good," The guard sneered at the prince as he walked forward still pointing his gun at Abby. Grabbing her arm he quickly dragged her through the main room and out into the street. What Abby saw there scared her more than the gun. She could feel her eyes widen with panic when she saw the large platform sitting in the middle of the square. It was what the guards used to put criminals to death.

The towns people were gathered around now in the square waiting to see what would happen next. This was the most excitement they had had in a long time. At first Abby thought that she should fight the guard holding her but one look at the gun in his hand was enough to make her rethink her plan. Carefully she schooled her face. If the guard looked at her now he would see no emotion. It was a look she had created when her grandfather had started his attempts as getting her a husband.

Out of the corner of her eye Abby saw Lavi and Kanda running along the roofs of the businesses surrounding the square. She hoped they had a plan because as of right now she was out of ideas. As the guard lead her toward the stage where she would be hung she kept Lavi and Kanda in her sight. She didn't dare look directly at them for fear that the guards would see them and attack them.

The wooden boards of the platform creaked as the guard ushered her up to the rope that was already hanging ready for her. Stepping on the trap door that would plummet her to her death Abby took a deep breath. The guard had disappeared behind her and she could hear someone moving. The noose was placed over her head and laid to rest around her neck before darkness covered her vision as a burlap sack was placed over her head. The only thing Abby could hear now was the sound of her blood pumping quickly through her body as she started to panic.

Maybe Lavi and Kanda didn't have any ideas on how to save her. Maybe they had simply been trying to save themselves.

While Abby was pondering these thoughts of betrayal she missed the sound of heavy boots coming up onto the platform. It wasn't until the booming voice of the King echoed off of the buildings around the square that she realized that he was even there.

"Hello Ladies and Gentlemen of the town, I have been made aware of a traitor in our midst. This young woman here has gone against my wishes, the wishes of the king, and has decided to marry one of the princes. I have come here to stop this traitor from becoming a part of the royal household which would have given her a say in the decisions of the country. I believe that this is best for the country because she is not of royal blood. She has defied me on several occasions. Today, right now, we are executing Ms. Abigail O'Brian for treason," The king roared gesturing to the young woman he had held on the stage with the sack over her head.

Cries rang out throughout the crowd. The townspeople now wanted blood. Abby waited for the platform to move out from under her but nothing seemed to happen. Cries from the townspeople still range out but they seemed to have changed. Instead of calling for blood they seemed to be more confused and questioning what was happening.

"You, what are you doing?" The King's loud voice called. Abby could feel a presence come up behind her and felt the sac over her head being lifted. She blinked several times as the sun shone into her eyes. Turning her head she looked at the man who was to be her executioner standing beside her. She couldn't see his face for his mask but he seemed familiar.

"Don't fret little lady," the man said his bright red hair blowing behind him in the wind. Carefully the man wrapped his arm around her waist as if he was going to pick her up.

"Guards stop him," The king yelled pointing in the direction of Abby and the man who was attempting to save her.

"Sorry Levier but we will be taking the princess from here," The man in the mask said sliding the noose over her head and pulling her from the trap door. The guards were pounding their way up the stairs to the platform. Abby and the masked man were surrounded.

"Cross you idiot I will not accept that thing as a member of the royal blood. She is nothing more than a peasant that somehow wormed her way into the castle!" The king exclaimed glaring daggers at Abby and the man who she had finally realized was Cross, a member of the royal court.

The townspeople were watching the exchange in curious silence all thoughts of spilling Abby's blood forgotten.

"But she is a member of the royal court," Lavi's voice range from on top of town hall. As he spoke he dropped a rolled up fabric that he was holding. As if in slow motion the fabric unraveled revealing the prophecy of a young girl with a birthmark in the shape of a heart on her chest.

"Abby is the girl from the prophecy. She is your daughter. The daughter that was taken from the royal court and raised in normally society," Kanda called from where he stood in the crowd of townspeople standing in the square. All eyes swiveled between Lavi, Kanda, the picture of the prophecy, Abby, and the king. It was so silent in the square as everyone tried to process the scene.

"That thing was never my daughter," The king boomed. The townspeople gasped. Whispers started up around the square as people talked about Abby being the heir apparent to the throne. People were also gesturing to the tapestry that was hanging above the church doors. The prophecy stated that their would be a daughter born royal who would be cast out of the family thus removing the curse from herself forever. Upon her return to the court the curse would be broken for everyone.

Abby looked around at the people who were glancing at her when she heard a noise from the crowd.

"Queen Abigail," One man started. Soon the entire crowd was chanting Queen Abigail. Abby looked up at Kanda and Lavi who were both still standing on top of the buildings. She saw Lavi say something to Kanda and gesture toward her. Seconds later a smirk appeared on Kanda's face and he jumped off the building. Abby gasped in horror thinking he was going to kill himself but he landed in a mound of hay that had conveniently been placed in front of the building.

The crowd parted for Kanda as he made his way to the center of the square where Abby and Cross were still standing on the platform surrounded by guards. Slowly he walked up the platform watching as the guards moved to the side for him not sure what they were to do in this situation.

"What are you waiting for men," The king yelled, "Seize them!"

The guards looked at Kanda who had finally moved to Abby's side taking her from Cross and then back to the king. They looked at each other. Abby watched them warily thinking they may attack. Her eyes widened when she saw one of the guards throw down his gun and call," All hail King Kanda and Queen Abigail."

The rest of the guards fallowed as the crowd took up the chant.

"Oi, you stupid fools they aren't the rulers yet. They need to be married first," Cross called in annoyance.

"I can take care of that," the priest who was to do the wedding ceremony said stepping onto the platform as well. He stopped when he got to the center and ran into the noose that was still hanging, "Can someone get rid of this dirty thing please," He asked swatting the rope with his hand only to have it come back and hit him in the face. Several guards rushed forward to remove the offending object before the priest turned to Kanda and Abby and smiled.

"No there will be no wedding!" The king screeched this time glaring at the priest this time. No one seemed to be listening to him. Cross made a small gesture and within seconds the king was being dragged away from the square by two guards. His curses and screams faded as he was dragged to the dungeon.

"Are you ready?" the priest asked the two.

Abby looked up to Kanda who had her clutched to his chest and smiled. He returned the smile pulling her slightly tighter. "Yes I believe we are ready," Abby replied.

"Prince Yuu Kanda, do you take Ms. Abigail O'Brian to be your wife. To hold and to cherish in sickness and in health for as long as you both shall live?"

"I do."

Then turning to Abby the priest continued, "And Abigail, do you take Prince Kanda to be your husband. To hold and to cherish in sickness and in health for as long as you both shall live?"

"I do."

"Then with the power invested in me I now pronounce you husband and wife, my king you may now kiss your queen!"

Cheers rang out as Kanda pulled Abby close once again and gave her a small kiss. In that kiss was all of his promises to keep her safe, to love her, and to make her happy. When they stopped they were both out of breath from the deep love that they both passed to each other in the kiss.

And that dear readers is the story of the lost princess, the heart of the kingdom that was restored to her rightful place as the next queen. Her father spent the rest of his life in the dungeon. Lavi sent out a small group of soldiers who were able to find Ms. Ryder and took out her and the rest of the rebellion she was slowly growing, As for Kanda and Abby….. Well they lived happily ever after.

Hello Everyone! So this was the last chapter of this story. I know the story doesn't really make a whole lot of sense and there are a lot of errors but I just wanted to finish it. I at least like the ending. I am now going to start on a second edition of Heaven Sent since a lot of people seem to want me to continue the story. Hopefully that will be up in the next few weeks.
