AN: Hello! So I wanted to get this chapter out before the end of the night so that you all could enjoy it. I think I finally have a plan. (Yay!) Please read and review. As always, I do not own the Gilmore Girls.

Lorelei decided to go to the diner for lunch, since she didn't really need to be at the inn. She and Sookie had decided to go in on the dragonfly together, and Mia's son was there to show the Independence off to those interested in buying it.

She and Luke were by the counter laughing like normal and enjoying their afternoon when the diner suddenly got very quiet very quickly. Taylor had come in and he did not look happy. The minute Luke noticed he go an angry look on his face. He was in no mood to deal with Taylor on a good day, let alone when he knew he was there to say something about Jess.

"Lucas I need to speak with you." Taylor stated.

"You are Taylor." Luke shot back.

"Oh god Lorelei, you're here too. We need to discuss the situation between your hoodlum nephew and what he did to Rory. Now there are a few in the town who feel that action needs to be taken to show others that his behavior won't be tolerated." Taylor ranted.

Luke slammed his fist on the counter. Lorelei looked just as angry.

"Listen Taylor! Jess is a good kid. Did it ever occur to you in the tiny little brain of yours that he never wanted to be here in the first place! My idiot sister stuck him on a bus with a duffle bag and sent him to me, the uncle he barely knew because she 'couldn't do it anymore' and your ally expected him to be pleasant! My sister is an idiot who spent most of her mothering years high or drunk with a random guy living with her all the time. Not the best environment for a kid to live in. If I would have known how bad it was I would have gotten him sooner but I didn't." Luke yelled.

"Lucas I don't…: Taylor started

"I wasn't finished Taylor. Jess made the best of it. He did some silly, childish, pranks and you never got over it, but this isn't a prank. Jess is very responsible. He is working a full time job at the Wal-Mart in Woodberry, he works for me, he spends all the free time he has making sure that Rory is okay, and on top of all that he got his GED before the rest of his high school class graduated so that he could just start making money for his baby. He has benefits for him and his child, he has a savings account, and he wants to do this right." Luke finished.

Taylor looked at him hard for a while before answering, "He has been trouble since he got here Lucas. And you have to understand that this is the last straw. He can't simply go about ruining Rory's…."

At this Lorelei spoke up, "Hey, now I know I was one of the biggest supporters of Jess leaving before, but you are out of line Taylor. Rory is just as much at fault here as Jess is. She isn't some helpless little puppy who us blindly follows whatever someone tells her to do. She made this choice just as much as Jess did. And you know what…he's doing a great job. Rory's father never did anything for me. He stopped taking care of me the minute the test turned out positive, and the minute she was born, he was on his bike headed for California. Jess is kicking my expectations ass right now. So back off."

Taylor stood there looking shocked. He hadn't expected Lorelei to defend the boy, nor had he expected just a fight from her. "Well what exactly do they plan to do with it? They are only 18 years old. They can't possibly be ready to handle a baby."

"I was 16 when I had Rory and I would say it worked out just fine Taylor, wouldn't you. We live in a nice house and a nice town, with the exception of you right now; she went to an amazing high school and graduated as valedictorian of her class. She got into Yale, Harvard, and Princeton, and while this baby wasn't in the plan she has no intention of skipping out on college. Please do tell me what age has to do with raising a baby." Lorelei answered.

Taylor knew he was losing, but rather than admit it he simply stormed out of the diner. Lorelei and Luke didn't talk about what had happened, but they each knew that something bad was coming, and just as good parents do, they wanted to protect their kids.

Later that night Jess got home from a really long shift at Wal-Mart. Luke was upstairs, and Jess just wanted to eat food and go to bed. But Luke needed to talk with him.

After explaining what happened with Taylor, He had to tell him that his mother had called, and Luke knew that wouldn't go over well.

"What did she want?" Jess said. He knew that this was going to be a horrible conversation and just wanted to get it over with.

"She wanted to tell me she was making jewelry, and ask about your graduation." Luke answered carefully.

"What did you tell her?" Jess asked. He knew he needed to tell Liz about Rory and about the baby, but he knew if Liz was involved it would just make things harder for them.

"I told her that you left school a month ago and go tour GED and that you were working on saving money."

"Nothing about Rory or the baby."

Luke knew his sister was a little messed up, but he didn't understand why he hated her so much. "No I didn't say anything about the baby." Luke had always been loyal to the idea of family, and in his head if you had news like a baby, you told your family no matte what they did.

Jess picked up on the disappointment in Luke. He knew his uncle wanted him to tell Liz, knew he didn't understand. Jess was scared. He had to be a better parent than Liz and Jimmy, if he wasn't he had completed the ultimate failure. Liz had never cared about where Jess was, who he was with, or what he was doing; she used to send him to pick up her drugs on the corner, and got the shit beat out of him more than once by a dealer she hadn't paid yet. Jess was more like a toy to Liz than a kid. Fun when she wanted him around and banished when she didn't.

"I just don't want her to come around." Jess finally admitted it to Luke. "I can't have her around me; I get to angry, and can't get angry when I need to be here. She won't be good to have around, and she won't be good for the baby."

"Jess she's gonna be a grandmother…" Luke started.

"She would have to act like a mother first." Jess cut him off. "My kid isn't buying her drugs, living with her shitty boyfriends, taking care of her when she passed out because she drank too much. My kid is going to be just that. A kid. Grow up like Rory did. God, Rory and Lorelei lived in a potting shed and Lorelei made the best of it. I would spend days on the street knowing I couldn't go home until either her boyfriend stole all our stuff and left, or I had stolen enough booze to keep them calm."

Luke just looked at him. He had no idea. He assumed Liz ignored her son when he got older. He had no idea that Jess had spent most of his childhood taking care of his mom.

"I didn't know." It was all Luke could muster up. He couldn't even look at his nephew.

"Didn't want you to." Jess said. He didn't want to talk about it. He knew Luke would make him, but he didn't want to.

"I'm sorry Jess, if I would have known, God I would have kept you here. I would have gotten you sooner. I would have tried to help more." Luke felt disgusting.

"Whatever. Jimmy kinda did me a favor. Don't think I could've dealt with both of them."

"Does Rory know? Luke asked.

"Yeah she does. She's the only one that does."

"Call if you want. Don't if you don't want to."

"Huh." It was all Jess could get out.

AN: So let me know what you thought, I would really like it. I am thinking that I finally have a direction for this story. Which makes me very happy. Please Review!
