Daisy and Luigi stood pale-faced in front of the principal.

Principal Miller smirked at the two kids. "Well, well, well. I should have known it was you two. I'll bet your parents would love to hear about this. Especially your father, Miss Sarasa."

Daisy laughed nervously. "Now Principal Miller, my father is a very busy man. He's the king of Sarasa Land, you know."

"Your father told me personally to call him if you had something going on, especially if it included this young man right here," the principal said as he gestured to Luigi. Daisy felt her pale face turning green. "Come with me." The principal then lead the two teens down to his office.

"Mm-hmm. Yes, of course," Principal Miller removed the phone from his face and looked straight at Daisy. "Your father would like to speak with you."

Daisy's face paled all over again. "Um, can I take a rain check?" The principal ignored her and shoved the phone into her hand. Daisy swallowed. "Hello?" Her voice was weak.

The king was shouting so loudly and spoke so fast that Daisy couldn't even understand what he was saying. When he was done screaming her ear off, he growled, "Do you understand?"

"Not in the least," Daisy replied. By the way the king started yelling again, it became increasingly obvious that he was looking for something more along the lines of, in an ashamed voice, "Yes, Father, I understand. I apologize and promise that I'll never do it again." Probably even, "Yeah, sure, whatever," wouldn't have made him so angry.

"I am coming to pick you up right now. We aren't finished with this yet."

Daisy had to think fast. "Actually, I should probably stay at school so that I can go to class and learn. Education is important."

"I completely agree," the king replied.

Daisy was caught off guard. "You do?"

"Yes. Education is very important. That is why I am hiring a private tutor," the king said through clearly gritted teeth.

"Home schooled?" Daisy shrieked. "I can't do that!" She didn't care that she was screaming like this in front of Luigi. He had to realize the importance of this, too. If she was grounded, and not at school, then when would they see each other?

"Clearly, letting you out of the castle to go to school is too much freedom. I'm coming, right now." Daisy's father hung up the phone. Daisy turned pale and then green again. She was starting to get used to being pale-green.

The ride home was painfully awkward. Nobody talked. The king was way too pissed, and Daisy was way too terrified. So, basically, the very definition of awkward, only multiplied by one hundred.

As soon as they got home, Daisy jumped out of the car and ran into the castle, up to her room. She had a hidden room in the back of her door was hidden behind a dress. It just looked like it was up against the wall. She could stay in there for a little while, besides leaving to go to the bathroom. She had a case of water bottles, a secret snack stash, a stack of novels she had yet to read, and even a sleeping bag and people. She was always prepared for when her father blew up, although he wasn't usually this mad. Daisy ran into her secret room and hid.

A few hours later, Daisy crawled out of her little room and peeked out of the closet. The coast was clear. She went to the bathroom, and on the way back, decided to have a little fun. When her father was done fuming, he would come looking for her. The first place he would check was her room. She grinned devilishly, opened the window, and scurried back into the little room.

Sure enough, about ten minutes later, Daisy could hear the king strutting into her room. "Daisy," he called. "Where are you? Your tutor is here." Daisy made a face. She really didn't want to be home schooled. The closet door opened. Daisy smirked, knowing that she was safe. The closet door closed, and Daisy crawled into it from her hideout. She looked through a hole in the door.

The king's face grew super-pale as he stared at the open window. It worked. Daisy almost threw a party right then and there. "Lillian!" he screamed at the top of his lungs. The queen dashed into the room. Her face grew equally as pale as her husband's.

"No," the queen groaned. "Not again!"

A guard who Daisy didn't recognize marched into the room. "Your Majesties," he said as he bowed before Daisy's parents. "Every door and window in the castle has been watched since before the princess even arrived here. Therefore, there is no way she could have left. She probably opened the window to trick us."

Crap. Was it that obvious? Daisy hurried back inside her safe room. Good thing that door never creaked, or she would have been caught for sure.

"Very well," the king said, taking in a deep breath. Daisy could hear him trying to control the anger in his voice. "Search the castle. She must be in here somewhere."

"Oh, and make sure you check the backs of every closet. This castle is very old, and there might be a secret room somewhere." Daisy could hear her father saying that already. Not that he had, though...yet. Daisy was feeling lightheaded just thinking about it. She fell asleep hoping that she didn't snore, or sleepwalk, or talk in her sleep.

The next day, Daisy woke up in her secret room. She started freaking out. What the heck happened yesterday? She sighed thoughtfully. Okay, first, the principal busted me and Luigi in the closet. Next, he called my father, who demanded to talk to me. He said that I had to go home and that I would be home schooled. When we got home I ran in here. Now here I am. Daisy sighed again. She knew that she would have to come out sometime. The water and snacks couldn't last her as long as she thought. She could probably last until the end of the day today.

Daisy sighed once again. Would she be treated worse if she came out on her own, or if her secret room was discovered? She had a feeling that it would be better if she came out, although she really didn't want to. It was the tiniest bit funny, because she knew that it had to be killing her father that there was a section of his castle that he didn't know about. She smiled, but she knew that she would have to come out today. She really didn't want to get grounded for another four months.

Daisy crawled out of her secret room and peeked out of the closet. Nobody was searching her bedroom right now, so she climbed out, closed the door and sat on her bed. There were very few moments when her room was entirely empty, so she wouldn't have to wait long. Just as she predicted, her father walked into the room about five minutes later.

"There you are," he growled. "We have been searching the entire castle nonstop for you! Where have you been?"

Daisy couldn't give away her hiding place, so she had to play dumb. "I've been in here," she said. "Remember? The rest of the week? Any of this ringing a bell?"

The king narrowed his eyes. "Your room has been checked thoroughly. There is no way you could have been hiding in here. Now, I am going to ask you one last time: Where have you been hiding?"

Daisy gulped. Somehow, she was getting the feeling that this wasn't the best strategy for staying out of trouble. She sighed and walked over to the closet. "In here," she said, opening the door.

Her father clearly didn't believe her. "We looked there."

Daisy bit her lip as she moved her dress. She opened the secret door.

The king's jaw fell open as he rushed over. "How didn't I ever know about this room?"

Daisy sighed. "I don't know," she said. "I just found it one day, and started hiding in it."

"Amazing," the king mumbled. Daisy realized that he was too with the secret room to yell at her. She started walking in the direction of the door, but then her father whirled around on her. "You're still in a heap of trouble." Any other time, Daisy would have laughed at her father for saying stuff like 'a heap of trouble.' But not now. He seemed really mad.

Daisy gulped. She said in a small voice, "I don't want to be home-schooled."

The king looked at her sternly. "Well, I don't know what else to do. You just keep hiding out with that boy, and I've given you countless chances, but you keep disappointing me."

Daisy looked at the floor. "I'm sorry."

The king sighed. "I don't know what to do with you," he mumbled. Then he walked out of the room.

Daisy tilted her head. Well, that went better than expected. Her father seemed to be too tired to get angry. He'd probably driven himself crazy searching the castle. Daisy decided that she was done fighting her father, done driving him crazy. She thought back to when he took care of Stephanie, and knew that it was better to have him on her side.

Daisy found her dad in his study, and drew in a deep breath. "Father?" she said.

The king turned around from his desk. "Yes, Daisy?"

Daisy drew in another breath. "I'm sorry," she said. "I'm sorry. I've been driving you crazy with the way I've been acting, and I'm really sorry about that. I should be acting more like a princess."

The king raised his eyebrows and chuckled. "Oh, Daisy, I forgive you. You are thirteen, after all. That's all to be expected."

Daisy looked at him. "Am I going to be home-schooled?"

Her father sighed. "I don't know yet. It's Friday today, so we have the weekend to think about it."

Daisy nodded thoughtfully. "Okay," she replied, and she walked back into her own room. She was actually a little surprised that he didn't yell out her for being out of there, but at least she only had today and tomorrow left. And now she was starting to get along with him.

Daisy sat in her room and thought hard. She would have to find a way to make her relationship with Luigi work, and yet at the same time, not upset her father. Maybe she could talk to him about that, too.

Daisy also needed a new hiding place. Even though she was getting along with her dad for now, that could change very quickly. She made a mental note of that.

The queen walked into Daisy's room. "Oh, there you are!" she cried. "Your father told me that you were here. Oh, Daisy, for a minute we thought that you had ran away again!"

Daisy looked at the floor, ashamed. "I'm sorry. I was just... I was just in a bad mood. But I know that's no excuse for worrying you, and I'm sorry."

The queen smiled. "Well, I'm just glad that you're all right. Anyway, I must be going, but I just thought that I'd see if it were true that you're here."

Daisy smiled back as her mother walked away. All right, she thought. Now I just need to figure out how to solve my problems.

Wow. That was a chapter worth waiting for, huh? I don't know. Maybe. To be honest, I started writing the first half, then didn't touch it again for a few weeks. So if it starts to seem off to you, that's why. Anyway, make sure you read my next chapter! What will Daisy do to solve these problems?
