A/N… I know you thought this day would never come. I confess, there were times when I had my doubts, too. But with this short epilogue, U-Turn is officially finished. It is amazing how well (and how quickly) Sam and I can work when we are in the same room… and the same time zone. :-)

Thanks to everyone who stuck with us on this journey and for all your nice comments, gentle… and some not-so-gentle proddings, and your words of encouragement. We really appreciate each and every one of you. So… read further and learn exactly what "nofrolot" really is. I will be honest, Sam wrote that and she had to tell me what it was, so don't feel bad if you didn't know.

Until next time (and there are several in the works). Cokie

Nothing to add to that, other than that this epi was mostly her. :-) Sam

Hilo Medical Center
Four weeks later

"That was a good lunch, Lou," Steve told him as he stepped out of the rental car at Hilo Medical Center on the Big Island. "It was good to meet and talk to Sheriff Salomon when I wasn't drugged out of my mind," he added with a grin.

"Yeah, Ken's a good ole boy," Grover agreed. "I'm glad he had time for lunch. It was good seeing him again without the urgency of solving a case. Too bad Danny missed it."

"Danny's next couple of days will be full of squealing teenagers," Steve reminded his friend.

"Yeah, and he can squeal with the best of 'em," Grover replied. "Better him than me, still remember the last time I had to go one of those things with Samantha. So…" he began while motioning to the small plastic bag in Steve's hand. "Want any help getting that back on?"

"Um," Steve began, unsure if he wanted to have to explain to Lou what this meant to him.

Grover quickly understood Steve's discomfort. "Look, when we went through your things, I took the chain to give it back to you, but then I thought it needed to stay in the evidence locker. Didn't want anyone to claim we tampered with anything. But, I-uh wanted to make sure you got it back."

Steve awkwardly shook the bag with his still casted left arm and the chain holding Catherine's ring fell into his palm. "Yeah, I'm glad you found it." He held the long chain and managed to get it over his head without assistance. He dropped it on the inside of his shirt and added, "Thanks for wanting to keep it safe."

"Not a problem. I'm glad Ken brought it with him. Listen, want me to find a place for a siesta while you meet with your friends?"

"Hell, no," Steve quickly replied. "You need to meet them. Besides, they're going to have lots of questions and I doubt I can answer many of them. I still don't remember everything that happened that weekend… and in what order it happened."

"I bet," Grover agreed as he walked alongside his friend across the hospital's parking lot. "You all were damn lucky to still have all your marbles."

Grover had parked the car in the closest parking space he could find because Steve had been adamant he didn't need to be dropped off at the door. He was only recovering slowly and had just recently been allowed to exchange the long leg brace for a smaller knee brace for support. The doctor had cautioned him not to overdo the walking, but Steve had still refused door-to-door service.

"Hey," Lou also remembered something from that weekend. "Did we ever tell you about 'nofrolot'?"

"What the hell is 'nofrolot'?" Steve asked, wondering what his friend was talking about.

"That's what Danny wants to know," Grover said with a chuckle. "The first few days you slept a lot but when you woke up one time, we were there and you told us you remembered where you knew the guy who had come into your room to kill you. You said it wasn't 'nofrolot'," Grover explained.

"Nofrolot?" Steve slowly said the word, with a questioning look on his face.

"I can tell you that threw us for a loop. You were so out of it and doped up to the gills," Grover said still chuckling, but sobered up when he remembered how hurt his friend had been. "Anyway, Danny went back to the hotel room that night and began researching what it could possibly be. After saying it a few times while in the shower, I understood… not from the lot. You knew who the guy was but it wasn't from the parking lot. When I got out of the shower, Danny had wadded up paper all over the desk and floor and his hair looked like he had plugged his finger into a socket. He thought maybe it was a Russian code or something."

Steve grinned at the image. "So, what'd he say when you told him you figured it out?"

They got onto the elevator taking them to the third floor. Lou turned to grin at his friend, a wicked expression on his face. "What makes you think I ever told him?"

"Steve!" Zac Wilson said in surprise upon seeing their friend come through the door of Parker's hospital room. "Weren't expecting you here."

Steve and Zac bro-hugged it out, both careful of their still healing injuries before Steve turned to Parker Dennison who was still in the bed awaiting discharge. "How're you doing, Park?"

"I'm good. It's great to see you," he told his friend, carefully pronouncing every word. "Just waiting to be released. I'm heading back stateside for therapy."

"That's what I heard. Hey, I want you to meet a friend of mine, Lou Grover," he told them. "Lou and the rest of my team worked hard to solve this case," he added.

Zac extended his hand. "Thanks for all your help, man," he told the captain. "We're just sorry you have to work with this guy all the time."

Lou leaned across the bed and shook hands with Dennison. "Yeah, well, we all have our burdens to bear. Glad to see you guys looking better."

Parker added his thanks. "The sheriff has been by a couple of times and he told us how your taskforce figured out everything," he told them. "Good job, by the way. Wish we had time to thank them all… and get the full story. Neither one of us can remember squat."

"When you get back, maybe you can head to Oahu and meet everyone," Steve offered. "And for what it's worth, I don't remember much of it, either."

"Yeah, another cookout would be great," Zac agreed. "Remember that time in Bora Bora?"

"I do," Steve agreed with a grin. "And I know it will remain classified for a long time," Steve said, making clear that was a topic not to be talked about.

"Yeah, those were the days, man," Zac said, understanding that had been another time and life.

Before any 'need to know' secrets were divulged, Steve changed the subject. "So, how'd surgery go on your arm?" he asked Parker. "Heard they transferred you here so that Dr. Kioni could do the surgery."

"Yeah, she apparently knows what she is doing," Dennison replied. "I should have full range of motion when this thing comes off," he told them while holding up his casted arm. "I wanna know how you got the cool camo cast though," he said, pointing to the blue camo cast that still held Steve's arm in an almost 90-degree angle.

"He got that because he refused pink," Dr. Kioni interrupted from the doorway. "Good to see you again, Commander. Thought I might find you up here. And I'm glad you finally got to check up on your friends."

"Yes, me, too," he agreed.

"What time is your appointment?" she asked.

Steve glanced at the clock on the wall. "In half an hour. You gonna take off this cast?" He asked, holding up his arm.

She smiled and replied, "Let's wait and see."

As she left the room, the words 'she has a nice smile' popped into his head. Where the hell did that come from? he thought.

An hour and a half later, Lou looked up from the old, worn Sports Illustrated issue he was trying to read to see Steve and Dr. Kioni walk through the door. Instead of the heavy cast on his arm, Steve was wearing a black brace from his palm up to his elbow and was also sporting a happy smile when he saw his friend.

Lou stood and met them near the doorway. "Looking good, Commander," he said, pointing to the brace.

"Yeah, feels good, too," Steve replied while flexing his fingers.

"Remember what I said," Kioni reminded him. "Wear it for at least two weeks before you begin taking it off. And then only when you aren't doing anything strenuous. No lifting or hitting it against anything."

"Got it," Steve assured her, anxious to leave. "And thanks. Told you I was a quick healer," he added, smiling at her.

"Oh, you remember that, do you?" she said. "Maybe so, but you still had better follow my instructions, I don't want to see my hard work go to waste. Do your therapy and don't lose that appointment card I gave you for the follow up with Dr. Baker at home."

Steve patted his shirt pocket, replying "Got it right here. So, am I discharged?" he asked with a hopeful voice and a killer smile.

The doctor nodded her head. "Commander, you are free to go. Please take care of yourself, and remember what I told you about your knee."

"Will do." He turned to Lou and said in a conspiracy tone, "Come on, let's get out of here before she changes her mind." With one more grin and wave in her direction, he followed Lou out the door.

Dr. Kioni watched them go and she shook her head. Commander, you also have a nice smile.
