Korra slid against a wall further back into the hallway of the Sato estate. She had to have a moment without the constant yelling and chatter of the police ringing in her ears. They still hadn't found Asami, and at this rate they would find nothing but the body of the woman she loved. She let her head fall into her hands as she sobbed, and thought back to that day they were together.

Korra had spent the day before preparing this evening with Asami. She wanted to share something special with her, and that was the rare Sapphire Trout from her village, and the recipe that had been handed down through her family.

"So, what are you planning on making me?" Asami sat at the counter behind Korra, her green eyes bright and curious.

Korra grinned as she spun to look at the woman. Asami sat with her elbows propped against the counter, and her chin resting on her hands. She had a small smile curving those beautiful lips, and Korra almost forgot how to breathe. She caught herself, and cleared her throat to answer the heiress,

"I've got something special in mind, " she turned back to the large fish sitting in the sink in front of her, before pulling its hulking body into her arms and presenting it to the green- eyed beauty.

Asami giggled, and rose a perfectly sculpted brow,

"And this would be?"

Korra flipped the fish onto the counter, and began to scrape the metallic scales from its hardened skin,

"This, my dear, is called the Sapphire Trout. It's a delicacy in my nation, and something you can't find around here," Korra went on to describe the poisonous sack that had to be removed carefully, and that only her village had the means to capture these particular fish.

Asami was entranced, she watched as the water tribe princess prepared their meal, and dove into the food as if she'd never had anything so amazing. Everything was perfect, until Asami began to choke and sputter.

After hearing Korra scream,Tenzin and Pema were there in no time, and they managed to get the heiress to the hospital in record time. Korra had felt absolutely guilty, she should have known, but Asami had assured Korra that everything was fine. She hadn't known either, and things couldn't have been avoided.

No matter how many times she said things were fine, Korra was guilty, and she swore to herself she would never let anything bad happen to Asami again.

"I guess I broke that promise," Korra whispered into her hands.

She should have protested more, how could she have let Asami waltz straight back to the man that had caused them so much grief? How could she let chief Beifong convince them to go through with such a half-assed plan in the first place? Anger began to pulse through her veins, and her hands clenched tightly into fists. She should have fought harder. How could she face Asami again, if she ever got the chance.

Korra growled, and pulled herself to her feet. She might never get to see Asami again, and she was going to let chief Beifong know exactly whose fault that was. She wiped the tears from her eyes angrily, and turned to strut down the hallway, Lin Beifong in her sights

The chief was standing with a couple other officers, her back to the approaching woman. Korra couldn't hear what they were saying, and it didn't matter. It didn't matter at that moment if she was arrested for what she was about to do, it just didn't matter without Asami. She prepared herself, she wasn't sure what she was about to do, but she readied every bone in her body for what was about to come.

Korra reached, her hands stretched in front of her, toward the chief. Before she was able to make contact, Lin spun, her green eyes wide as they met Korra's, causing the young woman to hesitate for a moment.

"They've found her," the words flew from Chief Beifong's lips, but korra barely heard them.

Blood rushed through her veins, making her feel light headed for an instant,

"What?"

"Korra, they've found them."

4:00 a.m

Chief Beifong, along with Korra, Tenzin, and twenty police officers rushed the Republic City Hospital. Korra sprinted, leaving everyone behind. She was in Asami's hospital room and straight towards Hiroshi before anyone could stop her. He was slumped in a chair next to her bed, his head pressed firmly in his hands. When the door opened he looked up, only to be met by knuckles.

Korra put the entire force of her body into the punch, sending the man slumping into a pile beside his chair. She was seething, her hands clenched into fists at her side. They shook with her anger, but she wasn't finished with him yet. She took a step forward, he didn't move, just sat slumped on the floor where he had landed. She sent him toppling back to the marble floor with a kick to the chin, and went to lunge once more. This time however, she was held back by two officers as they rushed the room. Chief Beifong was by Hiroshi in no time, handcuffing and pulling the bloodied man to stand. Korra was far from finished, she kicked and struggled against the hands holding her back.

"You disgusting bastard!" She screamed, pulling harder against the men that held her, "you don't deserve her!" Korra swung her body towards him as he was led out of the room, and only did she calm when she heard a small voice.

"Korra?" It was quiet, and strained, but there was no mistaking it.

"Asami!?" this time the men release their grip when she pulled, they wouldn't have been able to keep her from rushing to the bedside.

Asami was pale, and her voice was cracked and strained, but she was pulling herself up as best she could. Korra couldn't help herself, she pulled the heiress into her body, avoiding the IV tubes that hung from Asami's arms. She sobbed, so relieved that Asami was there. She was right there, alive with her arms firmly around her.

"I'm never going to let him hurt you again, " Korra vowed.

Asami pulled herself back a bit to look into Korra's blue eyes. They were red rimmed and swollen from crying, but still the most beautiful shade of blue she'd ever seen. Their gazes stayed locked like that more another heartbeat before Asami leaned into Korra's lips.

Yeah, super short, but I'm still getting back into things. We're on the cusp of being finished! Woo!
