Neon Genesis Evangelion
An Ancient Guardian: Setting Right to Wrong
The people of the German city the NERV branch was situated underneath were in awe at what was in the sky. Not many could believe that there were monsters in the air. Large dragons, people dressed as knights riding dragons, animal-like humanoids riding dragons, harpies that seemed more humanoid than avian and other creatures beyond imagination, all flying out of a large, castle-like structure shrouded in darkness.
Then they started appearing on the street. Lions, dinosaurs, men on fire with swords, beasts. And within the monstrous masses was a young Asian boy with a sword.
"Tear into the ground!" He yelled, brandishing his blade in the air, and the creatures began to do just that: They tore into the ground.
An elf lady and a giant made of stone melded together and formed a green-haired woman in red on a broomstick, and she unleashed bolts of energy from her hands to atomize the street in front of her to assist other creatures in digging a large hole into the ground.
A large worm with teeth burst from the street, scaring dozens of people into running away. It was accompanied by a dozen more worms as they burrowed through the ground.
A man with long, dark hair, a loincloth and large sword that seemed based off a dragon, similar to the young man's, only black. He stood beside the young man, who stood away and gestured for him to do whatever he was going to.
"Graaaaurgh!" He roared, slamming his sword to the ground, causing the ground to crumble like an earthquake had struck the town.
Fortunately, none of the buildings or trees was affected by the monsters tearing into the ground as they exposed a series of tunnels that weren't part of the city's sewer or maintenance systems.
"Okay," the young Asian told the creatures as they gathered around the hole. "I won't tell you how to do your job. I'll just tell you to be careful down there. We all know what we gotta do…so let's do it."
Then, they all went to the hole. Even the monsters in the air went inside.

"Julius Caesar!" One of the NERV technicians gasped within Central Dogma. "That kid with the monsters! The former Third Child! He's in Germany!"
"He's going after what's there," said Misato, still haunted by the fact that the First Angel was still around, and not just in the form of the Evas.
"Look at all those creatures!" Ritsuko stated. "Where the Hell is he getting them from?"
-x-
The people within the German NERV branch ran in fear at the sight of the monsters as they flooded the halls and smashed through the walls. They were trained to face Angels in the event that they attacked, but these creatures weren't Angels at all, and they had a leader with a sword of power to enable him to get away.
"Halt!" A man in armor yelled at some of them, brandishing a sword at them. "I implore you to get on your knees and discard your arms."
"We don't have any weapons," a woman told him, and then stood aside.
"You're free to leave," he responded.
SLAM! Eight men with machine guns were thrown against a wall by an armored dinosaur that resembled a stegosaurus with blades on its back instead of plates.
"Rrrrrurgh!" The creature roared, just as another dinosaur, this one like a velociraptor, picked up one of the men and pinned him against the wall.
"Where's Adam?" He heard the boy's voice.
Shinji approached him and waited for his response.
"Rrrraaurgh! Answer him!" The dinosaur demanded.
"It's in the vault! Three more floors down! That's all I know!"
"Thank you…and I'm sorry for knocking you out."
"Huh?"
Smack! Shinji struck him and he went down hard.
"It's nothing personal," he told the unconscious man.
-x-
"There ain't no stopping him now," Kaji told Misato. "If he wants through to something he feels is dangerous in the hands of people, nothing's going to stop him."
"Yet, none of these creatures are killing anyone," she stated, "just like before."
Central Dogma was accessing the surveillance system over at their German branch and could see various monsters attacking the people, but they were mostly just incapacitated and restrained. Apparently, if Shinji was able to control these creatures, even by at least a tiny margin, they were merely following his unwillingness to cross the line that others would have.
He'll have them harm and frighten, but not kill any of us, Misato accepted.
-x-
"Aaaugh…" The guards groaned as they were beaten to a pulp by Shinji and a Battle Warrior, leaving access to the most secure part of the branch that was so sensitive that there weren't any surveillance cameras around.
"Vorse Raider, if you'll please," he requested from the humanoid beast that carried a large blade.
"Grr," the creature responded, stepping out of the shadows, raising its claws and ripping into the sealed door to pull it open. "Grrrraah!"
"Thank you very much."
They walked inside the chamber and saw a series of laser grids that secured a small podium with a bio-hazard symbol, indicating that whatever was inside it was not safe.
What better place to hide an Angel than one that's labeled a no-go zone, he realized; a lie used to express how dangerous something was when it wasn't often made it seem more dangerous.
There was no way he could cut a rip in space to get to the podium and the laser system seemed dangerous for anyone to get by safely.
"We need to cut the power source."
-x-
A rip in space formed outside of the power station outside the German city and spilled out several electrical monsters, including Mega Thunderballs and Twin-Headed Thunder Dragons. Their duty was to drain the power from the station and delay the emergency power from being supplied to NERV. Once it was fulfilled, their master could dispose of the threat at his leisure.
"Rrrrraaurgh!" One of the dragons roared, and the rest of them began unleashing arcs of electrical energy that attacked the most vulnerable parts of the power station, siphoning it of its energy through the cause of burnouts.
Within minutes, the whole station was full of burnt wires and broken cables, unable to generate or distribute power throughout anyplace in the city that used it.
-x-
The laser grid system powered down and Shinji saw that the monsters in charge of taking out the power station had succeeded in their task.
"I am forever grateful," he uttered, and approached the podium. "Haaurgh!"
SLASH! He swung his sword across it and broke the locking mechanism on it, taking the case off to reveal a case containing the creature that had been sought after.
"Adam," he sighed, and picked up the case. "Let's get out of here."
He swung his sword again and created a rip in space.
-x-
"The monsters are now pulling back," said Hyuga, noticing how the creatures were leaving the city and taking to the sky.
"Most likely, they got what they came for," said Misato, "meaning Shinji has Adam…and he's going to hand him over to the Angels."
"That bastard," muttered Ritsuko.
"Shiest," uttered Asuka.
-x-
"…The Third Child has acquired Adam," said SEELE 09 to the council.
"Only Adam's regenerated body," went SEELE 03, "but not his soul."
"Except if he knows of separation between body and soul," SEELE 10 expressed.
"He will come for the soul to ensure that he returns a complete Adam to the Angels," finished SEELE 06, "and he won't let anyone stop him."
"Oh, you'd be right about that, gentlemen," a new voice erupted from the pillar of SEELE 02 as it disappeared from sight, replaced by none other than Shinji himself, "and I'm coming for Adam's soul…and…I'll be bringing a few new friends to help me."
"What did you do with SEELE 02?" SEELE 01 demanded.
"Oh, he's fine. He's just…wandering through the maze."
"If you have done anything to kill him, you will suffer for your actions, boy!"
"Do you honestly think I'm capable of murder? And besides, I'm well aware of the fact that you put out a hit on me, you and NERV. Even if I could kill, I lack the will to do so. But just because I can't cross that line, it doesn't mean I don't have other methods that work fine for me. Anyway, you're all the ones that have blood on your hands. You wanted Second Impact to happen, not caring of the innocent lives that would be ended in the process, all so you could reach your goals quicker. Well, those goals are now for naught. There's no Lilith, no Unit-01 and now there will be no Adam…for any of you, no matter how much you desire it."
"You've doomed us all, you brat," said SEELE 07 to him.
"No," Shinji retorted, "you're only doomed…because you don't respect life. You don't embrace it. All of you, with your wealth and knowledge, could've done more for the world than you realize was possible…but instead, you chose to be villains. You chose to be selfish, narcissistic and even megalomaniacal, just to obtain something as superficial as immortality and invincibility. You think the human race is at a dead-end? I believe it doesn't matter so long as people live to see the next day. So bring on your threats to my life. I won't stop until I ended this senseless struggle you created."
His hologram ceased, leaving the other eleven members of the council to bicker amongst each other.
"If he was able to get to SEELE 02, he knows how to get to each of us," SEELE 04 announced. "None of us are safe where we are!"
-x-
Maybe it was a reckless move, but Shinji had to consider every possibility, no matter how impossible it seemed, and brought Adam's decrepit body to the Spring of Rebirth where he himself had undergone further healing. It was his hope that the spring would be able to rejuvenate Adam to a semblance of his original state.
"Please, let this work," he prayed, and deposited Adam into the water.
The spring glowed bright blue and bubbled.
To be continued…
