So this came out quicker than I thought. Also it is a fight chapter, but a much different fight than I had planned for last chapter. It will also be the last fight between Remus and Hermione for a while.
When they got back to the Potter Manor, the Potters were waiting for them. "So, I guess we have a new house elf?" Mrs. Potter inquired.
Hermione sighed. "Actually, I figured I would employ him Mrs. Potter, but I don't think it will be safe for him at Hogwarts. Is it ok if he stayed here while I'm at school?"
Mrs. Potter graced over to Hermione and hugged her. "Hermione hun, I'm not mad at all we have no problem employing Dobby while you are in school."
Neither of them noticed Dobby at their feet. "If Dobby could speak please, I'm not interested in staying here. Dobby promises to stay out of sight of his old master. Dobby wishes to stay with Misses." Hermione started to cry. She dropped to her knees and pulled Dobby into a tight hug.
"You don't know this, but I owe my life to you Dobby. You will never be abused or mistreated ever again."
The last day of break Hermione was working with Dobby to pack her things to head back to school.
"You know Dobby you don't have to help me pack I can do it." Hermione carried her books over to Dobby.
"Oh, Dobby is happy to help his new Master." He nodded his head triumphantly.
"But Dobby I'm not your master you're a free elf." Hermione sat down next to her suitcase on the bed.
"And as a free elf Dobby get the opportunity to choose his master. Misses Hermione saved Dobby from a very cruel and awful master."
"So, does that mean that you abide by the same rules as if you weren't a free elf? For example, if I told you something would you keep it a secret the same?"
"Oh, yes magically you are my new master. As if you had bought Dobby from the Malfoys." Dobby nodded his head." He then took her hands. "What is bothering you misses?"
She hadn't realized until he did that, that she had started to cry. "I'm just so grateful you feel that way. Dobby you saved me once from being killed. This probably won't happen now, but when I am from the Malfoys are even worse than they are now. Dobby what I tell you and show you cannot leave this room because it would get me killed." She pulled up her sleeve and removed her glamour charm. "Dobby I'm not a pure blood and I'm not from this era. I will be born on the 19th of September in 1979." She explained everything to him including Harry's death and how she ended up here. "Can you keep all this secret Dobby?"
Dobby's eyes were filled with tears. "Of course, Misses. You are Dobby's master now and Dobby will do everything he can to keep Misses safe."
"Thank you, Dobby, now let's finish packing."
The beginning of term went by quickly. Before Hermione realized, it was nearly February. She was studying in the back of the Common Room with Remus when she looked at her other friends by the fire. Lily was next to James while he played chess with Sirius.
"Remus, did I miss a full moon? Isn't it almost February?"
Remus looked guilty. "Kind of. We had some potion left over and it was at the very tail end of break so I snuck out without James and Sirius to ride it out in the shack at the very end of the Potter estate."
"Remus! The wolfsbane potion takes weeks to make! When is the next full moon?" She scolded at a whisper.
"In about a week. It's fine Hermione I can ride it out this month and Dumbledore is getting Sluqhorn to make it next month."
Hermione closed her book. "That's not the point Remus. The point is you didn't tell me." She got up and stomped upstairs.
James and Sirius looked confusingly at Remus. "I should probably follow her up to bed. "Lily said good night to them and headed over to the stairs.
"What just happened?" Sirius was the first to say anything.
"It was nothing just go back to your game." Remus sighed and went back to his essay.
James ignored him and walked over to Remus with Sirius close behind. "Don't lie to us."
"She realized she missed a full moon I didn't tell her about and that there is one in a
week." He rolled his eyes at them and dropped his quill on the table rubbing his temples.
"Remus! We figured you told her. Why didn't you?" James whispered annoyingly.
"She was nagging me so much before break about going I didn't want to get in a fight with her. The only reason She didn't go last time is because of Severus and I didn't have a reason she couldn't go this time." Remus explained.
"Well then let her go. I don't see why she shouldn't." James sat down across from his friend, Sirius still standing behind him.
"Because she could get hurt. And, and…" Remus was trying to come up with something else.
"And because you are in love with her." Sirius commented jokingly even though he knew it was true.
"I am not! I'm just worried about her." Remus then gathered his stuff. "Now if you boys don't mind, I'm going to bed." He then stomped off to his room much the same way Hermione did.
The next morning Sirius came into the Great Hall to Hermione and Lily chatting like nothing had happened last night. "So, Lily your birthday is coming up. What do you want to do?" Hermione asked Lily.
"Oh, nothing special. Probably just a quiet night in the common room. James asked me to go to Hogsmeade the day after." Lily said absent mindedly.
"That sounds lovely. I'm glad you're finally giving him a chance." Hermione took a bite of toast. Remus and James had joined them too. "Good Morning James, Sirius." She commented, obviously ignoring Remus' presence.
"Good morning, Hermione. Hey Remus did you finish that potions essay you and Hermione were working on last night?" James glanced between the two as he poured himself some porridge.
"Yes." He answered shortly.
"Well we should probably get going to Transfiguration. We'll see you soon." Hermione got up and looked pointedly at Lily, who gulped down her pumpkin juice.
"Yes right. We'll see you soon." She got up and followed her friend.
By the time dinner rolled around, Hermione and Remus still weren't talking. Hermione pointedly worked with Severus instead of Remus in potions and ate in complete silence at lunch not even looking at Remus. Hermione didn't even come to dinner because she was so mad. Sirius found her in the back of the library surrounded in giant tomes.
"Hermione love its nearly curfew." Sirius said in a hushed tone before rounding to the other side of the stacks. Hermione quickly tried to wipe her eyes before he saw. "Were you crying?"
"No, I just yawned and my eyes got all watery." She started quickly packing her things.
"Hermione stop." He put a hand on the textbook she was about to put in her bag. "Did you eat dinner?"
"Yes, Dobby brought me some food from the kitchens about an hour ago," she still wouldn't look at him.
"Hermione, look at me." She glanced up at him. "He's just worried about you. It took years for him to let us out with him. He tried to protect us too." He tilted his head and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "You might have to give him time. I understand that you are here to save us all, but you're not going to save anyone fighting with Remus about you joining us on a full moon."
She signed. "I know I just don't know why he won't trust me."
"Love it's not that he doesn't trust you. It's that he doesn't trust himself. Now come along before Mrs. Norris finds us in the hall." She packed the last book into her bag and let him guide her out of the library.
