Beth and Daryl stood at opposite sides of the clean and well decorated bedroom. There were even newly blossomed flowers that decorated the window sill. It was very late into the night, the sky was slowly becoming more navy blue instead of the heavy black. Beth watched Daryl as he nervously chewed on his thumb while he sat on the edge of the bed. It made her laugh a little bit, it looked liked he was a nervous kid outside of the principal's office.

His head quickly snapped toward her and his eyes held a heavy glare, "What's so funny?" He asked defensively.

"Nothing, you just look nervous." Beth replied.

"You ain't?" He asked getting off the bed.

"Yeah a little," She replied honestly, "But you're still here..." Beth said as she walked toward him, "I know I'm safe." she finished with a whisper as she approached him. He remained still and seemed unmoved by her words. She didn't seemed to let that stop her. She placed one hand softly on his cheek then pulled him into a sweet kiss. But to Beth's surprise Daryl pulled away. "What's wrong?" Beth immediately asked.

"We can't do that anymore." He replied sternly.

Beth didn't like the tone in his voice at all, it sounded like he was scolding her... like she was just another kid. She quickly backed away from him and turned to face the window.

"Beth..." Daryl called while walking toward her.

"Don't fucking touch me." She replied without turning around. Beth did not typically use such harsh language, but she was livid.

Daryl remained quiet for a while and Beth though she had actually shut him up. "These people ain't gonna get it Beth." He finally replied.

"I don't even care about these people." Beth said turning around. She hadn't expected him to be so close. She had to look up to see him... deja vu.

"What happened to the Beth that would have?" He asked taking a step back.

Just then there was a knock at the door. "Come in." Daryl replied while still facing Beth. Randy walked in and the two turned to face him.

"Sorry I'm just dropping off some fresh towels you guys can use, but we only turn the hot water on at eight in the morning. So there is usually a line." He said setting the towels on a near by dresser.

"So where is everyone, I thought you said you had alot of people here?" Daryl asked.

"Well me my wife Cindy, and her brother take the night watch, while everyone else sleep in the basement." He replied.

"Is that safe? Won't they get cornered... if the worst happened?" Beth injected.

"It's locks from the inside, and that's where we keep most of our food, weapons and supplies. We are prepared for the worst and we thank God it hasn't come yet." Randy replied followed by an uncomfortable silence. He then pressed his lips together and rolled on his heels turning to leave. "Sleep well you two, sorry about the sleeping arrangements, we took all the other beds down into the basement, this is the only room with a bed still in it." Then he left.

"Take the bed," Daryl said after the door closed. "I can sleep on the floor."

"I can't believe this." Beth said wrapping her arms around herself.

"Look around you Beth, this place ain't screwed up like the rest of the world, they still follow laws. And if they knew about you and me they would think I'm some perv who took advantage of you." Daryl reasoned.

"It's none of their business!" Beth half shouted.

"Lower your voice Beth, he could still be right outside the door." Daryl hissed at her.

"Don't scold me like I'm your daughter, because guess what, you fuck me... you don't love me." Beth finished without realizing she was crying.

Daryl stared back at her speechless. A million thing were running through his mind, none of which would help very much in this situation. But the fact that she was crying, she was in pain, because of him, was making his heart sink. He wanted to just wrap her in his arms just to hold her but he knew that was impossible now. Because what she did say held a heavy truth. They never said they loved each other, but did they? Daryl knew he cared about her and she did for him, but they were both alone. They needed comfort, human contact, at least that's what Daryl kept telling himself. Beth is so young, if the world hadn't gone to hell, would she had even considered even looking his way.

"Get out, I don't even want you sleeping near me." Beth said inturupting his thoughts.

Daryl still said nothing, but he did turn around and leave.

Once Beth was sure he was gone, she quickly wiped her face clean and got into the bed. She vowed to herself that she wasn't going to cry about this anymore once the sun was up. She stayed curled up into a ball on her side looking out the window, wondering what Daryl was doing.

Daryl stood on the porch looking out into the front yard. As the sun slowly rose it began to light the ground with a thin sheet of dew. It was a beautiful morning but Daryl was in way to shitty of a mood to care. Just then he heard footsteps approach him from behind. It was the older woman from before, Cindy.

"You don't have to stay up too, it really is safe here." She said looking out into the front yard with him.

"Better safe then sorry, right?" Daryl replied while poorly trying to keep his own attitude in check.

"If you don't mind me asking..." She began, "what happened to you and your niece."

Every time someone referred to Daryl as being Beth's relative, it felt like a slap across the face."We were with a bigger group at a prison a couple miles down, and things turned south quick and we got out."

"Were the rest of you family there?" She asked.

"Yeah they were." Daryl sighed then left the Cindy alone on the porch.

Beth didn't sleep at all but she did stop crying, which she patted herself on the back she heard a slight knock on the door. "Come in." She called.

It was the young girl, Mary, with a small pile of clothes in her hand, "They're going to turn the hot water soon, figured you deserve it more then these twerps." She laughed.

"Twerps?" Beth half laughed.

"Oh sorry, my vocabulary has gotten so lame since we only watch full house DVDs." Mary replied.

"How do you guys watch DVDs?" Beth asked shocked.

"With the portable DvD player in the basement. My uncle was kind coocoo so he turned his basement into one of thoes fancy dooms day bunkers. Turns out he's not so coocoo after all and we all picked the right place to have our family reunion." Mary said while setting the clothes down.

"Your whole family is here?" Beth asked slightly amazed by the family's luck.

"Yeah, mostly kids though. Speaking of which we better get down stairs before the kids wake up, or we'll never get to take a shower." Mary said leading Beth away. Once down stairs they stopped at a small door where two young men were already standing at. "What! No fair, how did you wake up before me!" Mary complained. Both boys turned around with cocky smiles and began laughing.

"Face it Mary it ain't ever gunna happen we are just too good. And on that note I'm surprised youre still alive after you last hunting trip. All the adult thought you were a gonner for sure." One boy said while patting Mary on the head.

"I can handle myself." Mary pouted. Both boys were tall and slender.

The two boys shared the same auburn hair color and chocolate brown eye color. But there faces slightly different from one another. Yet at the same time both boys had bright happy faces, like a puppy dog. "Who's the new girl?" The other boy asked.

"This is Beth, I found her and her uncle while hunting." Mary said while turning back to Beth.

"The bet was to get a rabbit's foot not two people." The first boy complained.

"Beth, these are my cousins, James and Josh." Mary said enthusiastically.

"Nice to meet you." The second boy said reaching his hand out, "I'm James."

"Nice to meet you too." Beth said shaking it gently.

"Why don't you two be gentle men for once and let the young women take a bath first." Mary said while lifting her nose in the air.

"Sure no prob." Josh said pushing Mary out of the way. Then James directed Beth toward the bathroom door.

"I was talking about the both of us." Mary sighed.

"I forgot my clothes and towels." Beth said not taking a single step.

"Mary can go back and get them for you." Josh said with a smile.

"Yeah Mary." James laughed.

"I hate you guys." Mary said rolling her eyes then left to get Beth's things.

"I hope she's not mad." Beth said watching Mary leave.

"Nah its all in good fun." Josh said turning to face Beth.

"Well don't let us stop you." James said opening the Bathroom door for her.

"Thanks."Beth said stepping inside then locking the door behind her. She could help but think how weird that situation was for her. Then she realized the situation wasn't weird... It was just too normal.
