Chapter Fourteen: The Family Heirloom

After Vee, Leafeon, and I told the group how Leafeon's deceased trainer died and everyone's emotions were mostly settled, I asked, "What is the family's heirloom?"

"A feather." Leafeon answered.

"It was supposed to be a feather from Ho-Oh." Machoke said. "My former trainer, Brain, Alex's father, took me with him to the floor with the crystal bells in Tin Tower with the feather for a family tradition. I still don't understand it."

"Jason, Alex's older brother, told me when the ownership of the feather changes, either by passing onto a new generation or death, whoever has possession of it is supposed to go the following day the person receives it to the Tin Tower to return it to Ho-Oh." the Luxio stated. "But, if Ho-Oh doesn't appear it will be kept safe until someone else comes into possession of it."

"Alex didn't go because he didn't know where the key for the feather's case was." Leafeon said.

"Be right back," the Luxio said before he ran into the house. He returned with a key in his mouth and dropped it in front of me. "I found this in Jason's room the other day. I think it might be the key for the case."

"Only one way to be sure." Glaceon said as I picked up the key.

"Right," I agreed.

"Wait, your Leafeon's trainer, now?" the Machoke asked in surprise.

"Yeah," I answered.

"He didn't force me," Leafeon said.

"I'll show you where the feather is at," the Luxio said before he led us into the house.

"Thanks, Lux. I still don't know where the case is," she said.

"I am respecting Jason's tradition and Alex's wishes," he said a bit before he stopped. "Here we are."

He had led us to a display case made of hand carved wood and a piece of glass showing a multicolored feather. I put the key in the key hole and turned it until it wouldn't turn anymore. I opened the case, picked the feather up by its stem, and looked at it before I placed it back.

"What are you doing?" Lux asked.

"I have received it and, so it doesn't get ruined before tomorrow, I am going to leave it in the case, for now." I explained as I locked the case. The Vulpix and Growlithe came into the room and I saw Vee's expression. "Go ahead."

Vee left with the two fire-types to go play.

"What do you think about me bring you and the others with us to Tin Tower?" I asked.

"I need to talk to the others about it, first," he said.

As the day went on and sun was setting, I was getting ready to leave before Vee asked, "Can we stay a bit longer."

"Well, it's not up to me." I stated with two young fire-types next to him.

"I'll ask Meditite if you can send the night here," the Growlithe said before he ran into the house and came back with the fighting/psychic.

"You're welcomed to stay the night with us," the Meditate Pokemon said. Vee, Vulpix, and Growlithe jumped around happily before they continued play together.

The next morning, Alex's Family's Pokemon gathered area the feather's case as I told them my idea. Most of the group showed their joy, but Meditite was unsure about the idea and she showed it.

"Are you sure?" she asked.

"Yeah, I'm sure. Besides, I'm believe that all of you should be there because it was your trainers' family tradition," I answered.

"I'm staying. Ever since Alex left here, there have been three attempted break-ins here and I will not leave this house unprotected anytime soon," Machoke stated. "Besides, I already been a part of a trip for the tradition."

"I understand," I said before hearing what seems to be bells.

"The bells, their ringing. This might be the day the feather gets returned," Luxio said.

"Hopefully, we can return it for them," I said as I opened the case, took the feather, and closed the case.

"I would like that," he said.

"Shall we?" I asked and received multiple nods.

The group walked with me to the Tin Tower while I held the feather by the stem. Surprisingly, Morty was about to enter the tower when he saw us and the feather in my hand.

"Continuing Alex's family tradition?" he said. "I'll take you to the top floor."

"Okay," I replied before he led us through.

"Here we are," he said as there was no more stairs going up the tower.

"Thanks." I said.

"Michael, this isn't the top," Luxio stated.

"What do you mean? This is the highest point of the top you can reach without having a Pokemon fly you to the roof," Morty said.

Luxio went to the wall in front of the stairs and said, "There is a ladder behind this cover. It just needs to be pushed out of the way and there is a trapdoor big enough for a Machamp to fit through."

I push the cover Luxio was talking about, climbed the ladder, and opened the trapdoor before I asked, "Who wants up first?"

One by one, sometimes two, three, or four, I got the each of the Pokemon to the roof of the tower with Meditite's help.

"I make sure no one disturbs the Carter tradition," Morty told us before heading down the stairs.

I waited for a minute before three canine jumped through the open trapdoor and howled north.

I squinted in the same direction and saw a speck of a reddish orange far in the distance, very slowly growing bigger. Thirty seconds later, I could see different colors on the Pokemon I presumed was Ho-Oh.

When Ho-Oh was on the tower, I heard a female voice in my mind say, 'You are not the one I am expecting.'

"He is floor down waiting for this human to do a family tradition of a family without an heir," Suicune explained.

"The Carter family has been doing a tradition in hope for the day you would return, so they could return this feather to you. Sadly, I couldn't save the last one of them, so I am here to return it in their place." I stated as I held out the feather in my hand

Ho-Oh looked at the feather as Meditite said, "One of the Carter family's ancestor stole a feather from you the day the first Tin Tower was destroyed and died about three hundred years ago. Since the day the tower was rebuild, the Carter family hoped to return what was yours."

'Thank you for return it.' Ho-Oh said as she took what was rightfully hers back with her beak. 'Now, Suicune, please bring my chosen here.'

Suicune went back through the trapdoor and came back with a raven-haired trainer and a Pikachu with a Latias and Latios closely behind then.

As I started helping my group of Pokemon down to the ninth floor of the tower, Ho-Oh said, 'Hello, Ash, Latias, Latios, and Pikachu.'

The trainer and his Pokemon said hello back before Ash said, "Can you wait for a minute?" Ash and the Lati help me with take my group down stairs before they returned to the top and we headed back to the Carter residents.
