The rest of the night passed uneventfully. Once I calmed down from my nightmare, I managed to fall asleep in Dimitri's arms again, not waking up until late the next morning.
"How long do we have until we get there?" I wondered as we repacked.
"I'd say...we'll be there by dinner time," Dimitri replied.
My eyes widened. "By...dinner? So soon?"
Dimitri arched an eyebrow. "If you want, we can have dinner at a restaurant, stall a bit?"
I swallowed nervously and shook my head. "No, no, let's just...get this over with."
Dimitri looked at me with concern. "Are you sure?"
I nodded. "Yeah, yeah, no, I'm not." I closed my eyes. I could do this. I was strong enough to do this. If I could survive the hell I'd lived through, I could survive seeing my mother.
Seeing the disgust on her face at the knowledge of what I'd done.
Seeing the pity in her eyes.
Seeing the disconnection, the lack of recognition.
Seeing her open the door and not know who I am.
Seeing her close the door in my face and in the memories I brought.
Seeing the hate.
"Your mother loves you," Dimitri assured me, noticing the fear on my face.
I shook my head. "She may have loved me once, but now? She doesn't know me."
Dimitri had nothing to say to that.
A/N: Well...so, yeah. Um, all I can really say is I'm sorry. I don't know what happened. I think my creativity decided to take a long vacation. But it's back now! I mean, I've managed to nearly complete a novel in the last month (This World We Live In is posted on wattpad . Com if anyone wants to read it under the name of TotTheRussian). I can't say updates will be regular or frequent but I can tell you that out of all of my stories, I'm hoping to have this done before summer is finished. On that note, you'll probably be getting another chapter today, as soon as I finish it!
