Emily sat on Hanna's old bed and checked her text messages. She had a few messages from her mom asking if she had made it to Rosewood and one from Mariana checking in to see how she was doing. Emily sent a quick message to let her mom know that the flight had been uneventful and that Hanna actually managed to get her to Rosewood in one piece.

Emily knew that Mariana would be at work so she decided to send her a text instead of calling:

Hey Mari, I know you're at work, so I decided to send a text instead of call. I made it to Rosewood. It's a little weird being back, but I'm really excited to see my old friends. We're having a girls' night in tonight, so I'll probably be out of pocket until tomorrow. I hope you're having a good day!

Emily sat there for a moment and impulsively decided to send another message:

I miss you, X

As soon as she sent the message, Emily started second guessing herself. It's true that they had become fast friends, but sending someone a message like that was a small step over the 'just friends' line. Emily stared at her phone. Just as she was putting her phone on the nightstand, Emily received a new text.

I miss you too XO

Emily smiled at Mariana's message, but decided to leave well enough alone. Emily went downstairs and saw Ashley hurriedly cleaning. "It looks great in here Ashley—you know it's just us, you don't have to do anything special." Ashley smiled through gritted teeth, "Oh trust me, I know. The reason I'm cleaning is because my ex-mother-in-law is set to arrive tomorrow afternoon and I need a head start—you remember how she is. Emily smiled, "Yeah, I really do. Is there anything I can help you with? I'm feeling a little antsy."

After some convincing, Ashley handed Emily a shopping list and the keys to her car. Emily backed out of the Marin's driveway and headed to the store. Rosewood hadn't changed much in the time that she had been away. There were a few new stores, but downtown Rosewood looked basically the same. The Brew was still there, as was Lucky Leon's.

Emily's curiosity got the better of her so she decided to stop by the Brew. The minute she walked in, the smells and sounds took her back to being seventeen. She ordered a soy latte and a lemon poppy seed muffin and took a seat by the window. While staring out the window at nothing in particular, a familiar sight caught Emily's eye. Holy shit—Paige is walking down the street.

Without thinking, Emily quickly turned her face from the window. Almost immediately, her eyes began creeping back toward her ex-girlfriend. Paige looked amazing; time had treated her well. Paige looked like she had just come from the gym; her hair was tied in a loose ponytail and she was wearing sweats and a baggy University of Michigan shirt. Emily slumped down in her seat and berated herself for the way she reacted to merely seeing Paige walk down the street—she had no idea how she was going to manage interacting with her later this weekend.

Ashley was still running around the house like a maniac when Emily returned from her errands. "Ashley, everything looks great. You really don't need to worry." Hanna's mom turned around, "I know. I just have a lot of nervous energy, so it's better if I keep moving."

Hanna made it back her mom's house around five that evening. In true Hanna fashion, she threw her stuff on the floor and began grazing on the snacks her mom had laid out for the evening. Ashley turned around and saw her daughter eating. "Hanna, can you not wait for the others to arrive."

Spencer arrived not long after Hanna. She had an overnight bag and a couple of bottles of liquor. She dropped her bags as she was assaulted by hugs from Hanna and Emily. Spencer looked amazing. Emily stood back from her old friend, "How is it possible that you have become even more stunning? England must really agree with you." Spencer smiled, "England is amazing; I feel like I can finally be myself. I must say, you're not looking too shabby yourself. And oh my God Hanna, you look amazing—I can't believe you are actually getting married."

Emily grabbed Spencer's bag and took it up to their room. While she was up there she checked her phone and noticed that Mariana had sent her a text.

Hey, I know you're busy, but I wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about you. I hope everything is going smoothly. Have fun!

Emily smiled as she put her phone down and walked back down the stairs. She noticed Hanna was on the phone in the kitchen, so she went to the living room and flopped down on the couch with Spencer. Spencer sighed, "It looks like Aria isn't going to make it this evening. She and Fitz missed their flight out of Iowa and the next available one doesn't leave until tomorrow morning at five." Emily looked disappointed, "I was really looking forward to the four of us catching up this evening, but I guess there will be other opportunities." Spencer sat up, "You're right. This evening is about having fun and catching up with one another."

Hanna came into the living room, "So did Spencer tell you about Aria?" Emily nodded, "She did, but we've decided that's we're going to have an amazing time with or without Aria." Spencer jumped up, "All right, I think we should have some food and then get on the drink." Ashley came into the room. "Spencer's right. I know we have food here, but I think you three should let me take you to the Grille for dinner and then I'll drop you off here to catch up." Hanna looked at her mom, "You really don't have to do that mom. We have plenty of food here and there's no reason why you should not stay here tonight." Ashley smiled, "I know hon, but I want to do this. I think you three need to make a night of it."

The four women piled in Ashley's Mercedes and headed for the Grille. While there, they talked and laughed and generally had a great time. As it turned out, Ashley had a new boyfriend, so her decision to let the girls have her house for the night was not as selfless as they initially thought.

Ashley dropped the girls off at her house and told them she would be back around ten the following morning. The three girls were giggling as they entered the house. Spencer looked at Hanna, "Your mom is totally amazing. I aspire to be as laid back as her one day." Emily smirked, "Spencer, I'm pretty sure that's not in your DNA."

The three girls went upstairs to change into their pajamas. As they entered Hanna's room, Spencer stopped. "This is like a step back in time. Your room is just as I remember." She walked around and looking at old pictures. "I'm pretty sure my mom turned my room into a gym the minute I left for college. I have to stay in the guest room when I visit my parents."

Once the girls were dressed in their pajamas, they went downstairs and headed to the kitchen. Spencer started opening the cabinets. "Hanna, where does your mom keep the shot glasses?" Emily quirked her eyebrows, "Shots? Since when has Spencer Hastings been the one to suggest shots?" Spencer stopped her search. "Let's just say that being away from my family has done wonders for my ability to relax."

After two rounds of shots, the three women found their way to the living room. Hanna grabbed her iPhone and connected it to the dock. "We need some music." Hanna selected a playlist full of the songs they listened to in high school. The three girls sat around drinking and reminiscing.

Spencer suddenly shot up, "I need a refill." Once she was out of the room, Hanna and Emily looked at one another and laughed. Hanna looed toward the kitchen, "She's really changed." Emily nodded, "Yeah, it's kind of amazing." Spencer strode back in the room carrying vodka and wine.

After doing more shots, Spencer suggested a game. "I think we should play 'I Never'." Hanna rolled her eyes, "Seriously Spence? Aren't we a little too old for that?" Emily noticed that Spencer looked crestfallen. "No, I think Spencer's right. A lot has changed since high school and 'I Never' would be a fun way to catch up."

Spencer excitedly explained the rules to Hanna, "So we'll go around in a circle and one at a time say something that we have never done. If you have done what is said, you take a drink."

After a few tame questions about skipping class and illegal parking, Hanna decided to make the game more interesting. "I've never kissed a girl." Emily rolled her eyes, "Thanks Hanna." The two girls were not prepared when they saw Spencer take a drink. Hanna coughed, "Wait, what? What the hell Spencer? You are the straightest person I know." Spencer grinned, "First of all, I take offense to the 'straightest person I know' comment—have you met my sister? And secondly, your statement about not kissing a girl was vague. For all I know, you could have been referring to a friendly kiss on the cheek. Anyway, we have all addressed Hanna's 'I never'. It's my turn." Spencer turned pointedly toward Hanna, "I've never been caught shoplifting." Hanna rolled her eyes, "Low blow Spencer."

When it was Hanna's turn again, she looked at Spencer. "I've never kissed a woman with non-platonic intentions." Spencer smirked, "Nice sentence Hanna." Emily took a drink while the other two continued to bicker. Finally, Hanna shouted, "Whatever Spencer, are you going to drink or not?" Spencer sat there for a moment and took a sip of her drink.

Emily stared at Spencer, while Hanna looked gob-smacked. "Who are you?" Spencer smiled at her friends' reaction. "I'm still me. I'm just trying to live a more authentic life." Hanna pressed further, "So you're saying you're gay now?" Spencer shrugged, "What I'm saying is that I am fluid; I do not subscribe to any one label." Before Hanna could ask more questions, Emily scooted toward Spencer and put her arm around her. "I'm glad that you are happy—that's what really matters."
